The drama was good and I enjoyed it. Rated it 7.5/10.
The number of kisses and near sex scene is never directly proportional to so called chemistry between the leads. Hope drama makers realize this.
Rated it 7/10
I rated it 5/10 liberally.
- Both ML and FL had characters who had known them for more than 10 years. It felt good that triangles were totally avoided.
- Breakup and reconciliation - They side stepped it brilliantly.
- Side stepping the mystery guy paying hospital fees with the obvious choice. Using that opportunity to convey "Dont drink and drive" message.
I rated it 8.5/10
Best way to describe the drama is, if you take liberal doses of Strong Woman Do Bong Soon, mix it with Goblin and use Hotel Del Luna for garnishing, you end up with From Now On, Showtime! Even though it was fun, I don't think I will remember even one scene from this drama after few days.
I rated it 7.5/10.
Even after the rewatch, I still feel that this drama could have been a 9 but ended up being a 7.5, Breakup troupe is simply overused and senseless in Kdramas. While the breakup troupe makes sense in this drama (as the FL did give ML a chance to confess his feeling) but the way these breakups are done makes no sense.
Every drama wants us to assume that life has a pause button, where people can breakup without giving the other person no reason, life gets paused and the person can walk back into someones life with no repercussions. How these story lines keep repeating in almost all the drama with breakup troupe is just mind blowing.
Coming back to this drama, FL weaponized the worst fears of ML, knowing fully the past life experience of her partner. Somehow we are supposed to overlook the emotional manipulation, since they get back in the end.
Minus the execution of breakup troupe, I would say this is a top-tier slow burn drama.
This drama has a good premise and is character driven rather than star driven. All the leads are flawed including 2ML, Love is not rational and there are no reasons that anyone loves anyone. It happens. Also, I didn't feel this drama is romance heavy and so I was not invested in who gets up with whom at the end. I felt all the characters had their own story arc and redemption in the end, including the friends of the ML.
I felt the friendship between the ML and his two friends as the highlight of this drama. I liked how they stuck together through tough times and came up happy at the end. I also liked the fact that the 2ML and 2FL were not paired with each other or with anyone else.
I do not like the break-up without any reason and time jump troupe. But this drama used the break-up troupe to good effect, though I would have liked for this to be done differently.
I seldom over analyze the drama and the only gripe I had is the last episode's final scene in epilogue. They should have included the friends of the ML in the slomo walk, eventhough I get that the leads are walking towards some meeting. I felt this is indicative of the corporate world where the suits always gets the limelight and the grunt workers, who actually build the product gets no recognition. You need the suits to sell the product but you will not have a product to sell without the people actually building it.
Overall, I rated 8.5/10.
This is neither a good or bad drama to watch. But the major issue with this drama was it did not pick a genre it wanted to be. It was funny at times but not funny enough to be a Romcom. It did not have enough fantasy element, thrillers/suspense element lasted for 2 episodes, became melo for 3 episodes, etc.
It had lot of interesting ideas, each of which the writer could have spent time in crafting the drama around. Some of the themes that could have been explored further where
- What does being human even mean?
- What would a predator do when it can't control its hunger around it's prey?
- FL Losing weight angle - What level of sacrifices can a loved one make, by compromising their health to save your loved one?
- Race against time - What would it mean when the ML is nearing 1000 years? Does he wait and die? Does he give up the morality to live? As a viewer, I never felt that looming danger the ML felt that he could die.
- Being a professor and student in a relationship provides an interesting premise if you want to make the drama as a comedy. The stage where FL hated ML, to both being in a relationship are 2 distinct scenarios, offering completely different setup to base your situational comedy around.
- Second FL becoming a human is a interesting premise and never fully explored. What difficulties does one have to deal with when they no longer have their powers? How do they function in a ordinary mundane life after becoming human? Have conflicted does one become when faced with life's hardship?
I could go on but it is suffice to say that it had lot of good ideas but never fully explorer anything. Drama could have easily avoided the pointless drag of 'red thread' and been a good 12 episode drama instead. Overall, I would rate it 6/10.
Overall, I rated this 7/10
Fun fact was the side characters were in the last scene of the drama. Not sure when was the last time I saw that. Overall, I rated the show 7/10.
6/10 just because the drama took men's health issue for a change, talking about societal value of men having average background, etc. I felt this as a welcome change as all we get in a regular drama is plain old ML childhood trauma troupe.
Overall the drama was good and I rated it 8/10. For some reason I did not feel the much sadness while watching it, even though theme of the drama was heavy.
I liked this one and rated it 8.5/10.
