hmm. I'd say the way he carries himself straightens up a lot when others come into the room and gets pretty serious.…
For me it isnt abt 'correctness' it is whether I understand what he is trying to do w/the character and whether it works in the context of the plot and his place in it; to be honest that is a question i will begin to solve only at the end of the show. Preliminary nattering.
Ep 25:Could you imagine starring in one of the best Chinese dramas around right now, tied to a mast, gagged, and…
Lin Mu Ran's first job as an actor was at the age of two as a baby in a cdrama, so he is probably toughened up about having his underwear on public display! What a great actor.
ep26 In the future household of the Marquis and Marchioness, the word divorce will be banned because it triggers JiuHeng, and the phrase "wait for me" because it triggers ChangYu. It makes her do crazy things, like drugging the Marquis.
Its not even available on Netflix in most european countries
Maybe people are watching it on IQIYI in Europe -- but honestly only a few asian dramas show up on topten nf lists in any European country for longer than a hot minute. Asian drama is niche in Europe, but it is totally mainstream in spanish and portuguese speaking countries where nearly 1/3 of netflix subscribers live....sorry, sort of off topic...
Do you think ML will bite FL? He seemed to have a kink for that in the novel, one of the commenters even joked…
It doesnt seem to fit the characte of either Yan Zheng or Zheng JiuHeng. But this script writer is diabolically clever -- she could include a lovebite or two to allude to the novel's wilder taste.
eh I feel like it's more realistic on how long injuries take to heal especially when you're constantly moving…
@nicky Thank you. That is what I have been saying, there is an interesting take on fantasy going on in this show, that fantasy can be used to talk about reality. This is real and nasty as far as battle goes. In the very beginning I also expected more to be made of the fact that YZ is a 'butcher' of men when it comes down to it. 'Just' war or no' just' war people bleed like pigs in battle and it smells disgusting. Thus it was charming that he never minded CY's profession.
ok more military questions bubbling up -- Technology -- what were those fireball thingies, it was hard to tell. Were they something real that really looks like that but usually isnt shown that way? I.e. some brilliant Song invention? Fans of Chinese war technology please.
Or maybe they were just surreal semi-symbolic smoky evil things?
The catapults looked cool but the director doesnt seem to linger on tech. long enough to see much at first glance.
This is an amazingly good show, even considering the high level of quality of cdrama costume-period pieces. Really amazing and funny -- peerless, actually. Hope it makes cdrama more popular outside of the mainland in any way it happens, but the director, the writer and their team will become superstars after this..
A very very misleading title. Netflix Top Ten in the Global NON_ENGLISH TV is not the same at all as Global Top ten. The former means out of shows originally produced in a language other than English. The latter means out of ALL the shows available on Netflix.
POJ hasnt made it to the global Top Ten list at all, mainly because for whatever reason it has not caught on in Latin America. Numbers of subscribers matter.
This is my only gripe also with this show so far he is supposed to be an amazing warrior but the drama has barley…
He is a totally amazing fighter from a wuxia point of view -- that sneaky way he fought the men invading the Fan house, using their energy and movement against them all the while sitting tired in a chair with his crutch. His skills are incredible. It is puzzling, I admit.
Probably not the moment to say this, but the frailty of Xie Zheng onscreen seems dissonant with what I hear the novel readers saying. The Marquis is seriously ferocious on the inside but he seems thin and still ill otherwise. Is this a rewrite of his arc for the drama?
I ask because I am percolating over ZLH's portrayal: the type of shots he is getting, his work on facial expressions, the way he holds his body in different situations. Clearly the idea is to allow for the Marquis' personal vulnerability to show. Betrayed by family. Under long-term strain.
Was expecting the god-of-war return to the army to be a grand thing, but if you look at his face it isnt. Tbh I am feeling more tired-of-war than martial vibes.
