In Korea, learning directly from those older and more accomplished is a prized experience. I am totally behind her choices so far.

But next, something more serious with a coeval please.

Welcome to the Hong Sisters' universe! Some hate them, some love them, they write long-lasting smash hits which are NEVER predictable. This is your proceed-with-caution sign.

I really respect the HS and I really enjoyed this show!

In other Hong Sisters' shows I cant get stuff either; they write a sort of poetic Korean, I think. But the plots still always have the most original twists.
The English thing is that weirdly you get close-captions on the English dubbing, which are less accurate to the korean than the plain english ones.

I liked the way it started off rainbows and just kept getting darker until the OTP comes out the other side stargazing.

The disorder, by the by, was classically written -- the symptoms causes and treatments were textbook. The alter, well that was a work of art.

It isnt as bad as the subs for masters sun, and just be sure to select English, not English CC

Honestly, really solid. I wasnt too sure to start off but it was a classic , rich, balanced Hong Sisters script.
here are some cool things:
1. the FL with the dissociative disorder is accurately written, both causes, symptoms and treatment..
2. Her alter is super fun.
3. Sincerity. How do you tell if anyone means what they say?
4, Zombies. FL and ML are a bit frozen. FL becomes a cult scream queen.
5. the leads are allowed to do that old-fashioned thing, develop a relationship through dialogue, which is right in their comfort zone as actors.
try it!

I love the feeling of opening up a new ep of a sageuk with a big beaming smile.

Cant wait to see if NJH can make fun of the way that MSM talks and walks and thinks while inside her body; will she be better at mocking him than he will be at trying to walk and talk like NJH in the Prince's body?

The reason the best kdramas are so great is precisely because the industry at any point swarms all over trends like this for a season or two, competing like mad to get the recipe right. Competition, cheap labor and money to pay for the productions. That is what makes great art, it needs the furious scramble of the less than perfect to rise above.

I was trying to figure out a good genre label too. So far, 'psychological thriller'? (IotnBO) or 'play-within-a-play' (cant think of a good example except The Greatest Love....?) Little Women had a lot of plot texture (clearly realized characters whose arcs were only barely visible but interesting besides the main plots).

The HS wrote the Book on the structures of the rom-coms that you watch today. Out of their14 shows, from 2006 until today, 7 are modern romance dramas like this one. Their tropes and their plot strucrures have been copied over and over again because the HS have made smash hit after smash hit.

Be careful who you criticize. I may like the HS fantasy shows bettertoo, but the strength of the HS lies not in my taste or your taste, but in their immense clout in asian drama.

Of Course HMH has to be imprisoned like a princess in his father's tower so that Shan Bao can come and rescue him.

And Of Course this follows only after she has finally survived all of her grandmother's trials to take her rightful place as (almost) head of the clan.

This wonderfully addictive show lies somewhere in the middle of reverse gendered palace intrigue , weird exotic matriarchal fantasy and very definitely Super Fan Service. So wrong its right.

Try some other Hong Sisters shows. Some people really dont like them, but they are almost always smash hits. Worthwhile taking a look at others to figure out why!

It is a slow build but when things get wild (soon!)you will think back to the aurora borealis with a little nostalgia.

The middle was the best part! Dont pay any attention to those "draggers'.
A wild pychological thriller is hidden under the story within a story of a romance-reality show. Great script! Great actors!
