take me back to when this was still airing in 2017 and i remember ep 4 scarring the heck out of me

not me watching this when i’m thinking of making a career switch to study medicine…

the last ep was soooo😭😭😭✨✨🩷🩷🩷 almost made me push my rating to a 9. i’ll settle on a 8.6-7/10 rounded down.

i could be overthinking this but maybe the reason why Zhang Nian became a surgeon in the modern times was because he liked the feeling of superiority he got from saving people, and he wanted to feel that all the time since that encounter in the past. just a theory

i was also confused LOL

i can’t stop noticing how the mouth movements don’t match the words… apart from that, it’s the classic DMBJ fanfare. mysteries, action, questioning everything and understanding nothing.

8.6!!! on douban, which is really good - i have my expectations up for this

this is 8.3 on douban, which is considered high for a historical drama! will be looking forward to watching this

should i pick this up after dropping it when it first aired? can’t remember why i couldn’t maintain my interest 10 years ago…

if i recall, they did mention in passing how after coming out of the village they feel super hungry like they never ate anything. so i’m guessing the food they consume is an illusion and they never actually ate anything that filled their stomachs when in the village.

i miss them alreadyyy, the 2 seasons were too good

i see lee jun hyuk i click

this is like if young blood and the sleuth of ming dynasty had a baby, with a touch of ancient corporate slice of life

i can tell this show is gonna be one hell of a fun ride!!

i wish this had been released when i was still studying my ahh off in school because i would’ve joined the study group

that bedside conversation in ep17 where FL already knows ML is lying but still asks him to describe how their “life” was like back then is what, in my opinion, makes this show a standout among the myriad of historical romances. the screen time given to this one scene shows the thought put into the script and the characters. through this one conversation, we know that the FL has real feelings for the ML despite knowing parts of her past. even though the FL knows whatever that comes out of ML’s mouth is all lies at this point, she still wants to listen, to indulge in the moment of what they could’ve been had they been truly married in the first place. at the same time, this scene also shows that the ML has real feelings for the FL, despite the lies, it’s obvious that he too wishes for such a life with the FL. on the other side, this conversation is also FL giving the ML a last chance to come clean, to confess that everything is a lie. we can clearly see the look of sadness and disappointment in FL’s eyes after the conversation. our leads are conflicted - this is what real yearning looks like. the relationship is fake, but the feelings are real.

FL only meeting 2FL in the last episode for the first and last time is also crazyyy

2 time skips in 1 episode is crazyyyy

i really enjoyed this, regret not watching it when it first aired back in 2020. had to skip some parts but overall i loved the storylines and characters. the pain of not only losing a loved one, but not being able to find their body to provide closure is one of the worst things ever. the last episode made me cry

no way Hyun Ju was his granddaughter the whole time😭😭😭
