Title Happy Together Spoiler
I watched this movie years ago. I remember looking up sad movies and had "Blue Valentine" recommended which I did not like at all (did not care for the plot of characters and did not find it sad). This movie was supposed to be similar to it and I did watch it. I did not cry with either of these movies, but Happy Together let me go down a rabbit whole about Leslie Cheung's life. I did cry when I found out he died by suicide. I have to appreciate a movie like this regardless. The acting was astounding but I did not care for the plot/conflict or the dialogue.

Also, can someone explain to me why we are to interpret that they are dead? I was kind of shocked to see that people in the comments were saying they were dead. Maybe I am missing something but the way I interpreted is that they are alive post storm? After I watched the movie, I did go on wikipedia plot for the movie where it mentioned that they emerged from the bottom of the railcar. If all else, maybe I did not want to believe that the director/screenplay writer was going to do a tired and cheap trope.
Also, I want justice for the teacher. I felt so bad for him. He was actually genuine and did not even feel any animosity towards Minato for kind of causing his life to spiral.

A 2 hour movie. I felt the first 50 minutes but the remainder of the movie went so quick. A movie that can make you feel anger, frustration, annoyance, shock, and sadness is always good. Just a roller coaster of emotions and I do not think it should be overlooked or dismissed by whatever anyone here is saying. The acting was great and I always love media where it makes you change your own perception of a character throughout.
IF ANYONE HAS A LINK TO THE DIRECTOR'S CUT, PLEASE SHARE.
I am hoping the manga gets an English translation like with Old-Fashioned Cupcake with how the drama came first then we got the official English for the manga. The dialogue, interactions, and reactions are so appropriate and entertaining. It has been a while since I've enjoyed a BL drama this much. I knew I would like this after episode 1 , so it should not disappoint with the remaining 3 episodes.

Title Close-Knit Spoiler
I've watched this movie a few years ago and still think about. It does have its issues and I can see why anyone would be offended by the representation but it had some very lovely momets.
I always think back to the part where Tomo was crying in anger and frustration (while trying to knit) at the hospital scene for Rinko's sake where she was put in the men's section of the hospital. Most child actors cannot act well, imo, but that scene sold the whole movie for me. It was done so well and I felt the same anger and frustration of discrimination as she did when it came to how Rinko was treated.

what a nasty description for such a sweet kiss, which made 100 % sense for the characters and where they are in…
I meant nothing mean from it. It is just a common description for kisses that are just pressing one's lips to another's. I find nothing wrong with these kisses, mind you, and it is fitting for what the show is. You find these kind of kisses common in MlM Korean shows, which I just find funny to describe a kiss.

Title One Room Angel Spoiler
I love how they captured the subtle humor between character interaction and dialogue that is found in manga.
I do wonder how loyal this adaptation will be to the manga since the angel is supposed to be a third year in middle school (14-15 years old). The ending of episode 1 does look like they will still depict him in middle school judging by the uniform?
Glad they did not cast an actual child even though the manga was not truly inappropriate between the angel and grown man (the boy does ask Koki to go out with him which he does agree to and their relationship does not go beyond just being in one another's company). Personally, even when reading the source material I did not view it as anything but a platonic love but I know the intention of the story.

For those that are curious about why this adaptation was a shock because of the associated creator of the manga: Harada has made a wide array of stories/manga in which some include pedophilia/child molestation and rape/torture (they do have others that are just absurd but could still not be adapted due to the raunchiness and ridiculousness). This is probably their most wholesome story to date that could be adapted which still surprises me because of the age gap.

English translations for the manga is on MangaPlaza https://mangaplaza.com/title/0303000191/
This is such an entertaining story to read and the build up of romance is done well, imo. Also, should not be seen or dismissed as a story about a man telling a woman how to be a woman and idk how anyone got that from the synopsis.
In the manga, Koyanagi is said to be bisexual and should not be considered gay especially since this is a romance and he is a man that is around the main character most of the time. Having seen the first episode without the translations and following along the manga, the actor for Koyanagi does such a great job. There is a lot of funny interactions with characters throughout so I really hope someone picks this up.

I love this story and I cannot stand the takes people are having about it.
*Caution* there will be spoilers in this comment.

I own all four volumes of the manga and have watched the show. It is not a gay romance. It is not considered bl. What people are missing from this entire story is the build up. The confession and people dismissing it as BL and a romance takes away so much from the story. Comments confirming any aspect of romance is THE spoiler and reduces the story's complexity.

You are not suppose to consume the comic or show with even thinking that there is romance. It really is psychological and you are supposed to question the intentions of both characters. I have been following this story since the first volume was available on Kindle and volume four is when the confession occurs and is displayed in episode eight of the show. The manga is not even advertised as a romance or BL (Tokyopop even has the genre as "slice of life" and "drama") . The mangaka has made BL comics but this is not one of them. This is coming from someone that does consume media that is considered BL. You cannot take away the intentions of this story from the creator and dismiss it as BL when the point is the build up/journey.

Title Sing in Love Spoiler
The manga that this movie was based on does have official English translations. The manga does give some context…
I read the manga on Futekiya.

Bunta was actually killed by the group of kids from the shelter since he was having too much fun (displayed as him being pushed down stairs). In the movie it did play out as Mamiya being responsible and the kids taking the blame (especially with how Bunta was found which was similar to how Jin/Hitoshi was woke up after he was SA'd in the movie).

Mamiya is actually from a very dangerous and powerful gang in the area (if I remember correctly, the movie had him as some kind of council/parliament/political/gov person). It is why people just keep quiet since he is messed up.

Kai was SA'd by Mamiya which is why he knew the things that was said to Jin/Histoshi when he was SA'd. It was mentioned that Mamiya had his sights set on Kai around the time that Jin/Hitoshi became a student teacher.

Forgot if it was mentioned in the movie, but Kai's burn scar on his face is from his dad.

Do want to note that Mamiya and Kai do have a messed up dynamic that is sexual and violent. Mamiya only seeks out Kai for sex and Kai acts as a "shield" for the other kids. In the manga Shota (the friend of Kai and Bunta's brother) did say that Kai became Mamiya's target in Bunta's place.

Jin/Hitoshi did light Mamiya on fire, but Mamiya died from gunshot wounds (not from the police like in the movie).

Kai was the one to actually die at the end in the manga, not Jin/Hitoshi.

Mamiya had a right hand man named Mitsui in the manga. After Jin/Hitoshi ran away with Kai, Kai met up with Mitsui only to be shot in the head by him. Mitsui wanted to replace Mamiya, anyways, cause gangshit and took his chance to kill Mamiya after he was lit on fire. Mitsui was going to kill Jin/Hitoshi and put all the blame on him only for Kai to take his place.

Jin/Hitoshi was not married. Only had a younger sister that Kai used as a threat to make him rap.

Honestly, this was not the best story to adapt. It does give off that the screen writer/person responsible for adapting the manga felt really impacted by the story but wanted to change it to their liking.

Okay I finished the manga which is still ongoing and I think I got most of the things wrong. While watching the…
I do want to re-watch the entire drama and be able to analyze the differences to the manga along with the supplementary interactions and reactions that were added into the drama, so what I share will be broad thoughts supported by the moments in the manga. This is one of my favorite stories, so I can really write in length about the characters, but I am going to attempt to keep it straightforward and short as I can without entering redundancy.

Yujin has always watched over Takara and has taken care of him in many ways, while actively pushing him to become a better actor and take roles. Takara has always admired Yujin from the first time he has seen Yujin act in the play when was a mute. Yujin has never taken advantaged of Takara in any way, even when Takara tried to over-pay him for the meals Yujin makes, which Yujin refuses. Now, with what is seen and displayed throughout the story is that Yujin really does not have any ill-will towards Takara. That does not insinuate that Yujin isn’t experiencing unpleasant feelings towards Takara’s abilities that lead to his success. Throughout their ten years of knowing one another, Takara advances as an actor, while Yujin, the actual influence and reason behind the actor, Takara Takarada, is stagnant in his acting career. Takara has something that Yujin doesn’t and, in the manga, it is mentioned that when Takara betrays Yujin, that is when his acting is perfected. No matter how well Yujin reads into a character and emulates them and has Takara follow suit, Takara still has this something that Yujin does not which is said to make him shine on stage. It is why Yujin is his stand-in for rehearsals when Takara cannot be there, knowing that he won’t ever actually take his place on stage. Yujin even questions his own feelings as to whether he wants Takara to fail and stay by his side when he first gets a manager who will be taking on the role that Yujin, essentially, was doing for years (this can also be perceived as envy in a way to hold Takara back career-wise or his actual love for Takara and the distance that will come between them with Takara's success).

There is much to be considered when it comes to these characters and each feeling does count and could change/ be expanded on as the story progresses. Before the new revelations were revealed in episode 8 of the drama and volume 4 of the manga which introduced another layer of complexity to both Takara and Yujin, the show and manga had this underlying sinister feeling. Their years of knowing one another, being bonded by their love of acting, their varying degrees of co-dependence, and Takara’s success in show business did create an amalgamation of feelings in both parties. Everyone outside of Takara’s and Yujin’s world found them to be such an odd pair, and those around Takara found Yujin to be creepy and insinuated that he could have ill intention towards Takara. Yujin really does care about Takara because that level of platonic-presenting relationship was an intense one with how dependent each one of them were. One could say that Yujin did enjoy that Takara was someone so inept in the ways of functioning in life and needed to be micro-managed daily because it gave Yujin a purpose and a place in Takara’s life. I cannot just dismiss every and all actions made by Yujin to be deemed as something sinister towards Takara, especially since episode 8/volume 4 did add another layer to their relationship.

I can really go on, especially going into Takara’s character, but what I love about the manga and these characters is that there is so much to consider about each one that can leave those that are watching and reading to build off from it. They're so human in a way where you can really see their perspective since there are blunt and obvious feelings displayed, along with nuance weaved in the story. These aren't characters that you can just have figured out and be dismissed with what is given since the story began at the time of knowing one another for ten years, as well as Takara becoming more well-known as an actor with bigger jobs.

As a stand alone show, it really is a 10/10 and as a live adaptation from the manga it's a 8/10 for me. I won't break down or divulge in the differences between the manga and the live adaptation since the show did do an amazing job with just 10 episodes. I do, highly, recommend reading the manga since there are more character reactions and interactions that weren't displayed much within the series that does give more context to the scenes displayed.

Thank you so much for sharing the playlist. As episodes were airing, I was trying to Shazam some of the music with no luck. Yuji Iwamoto curated such fitting melodies for the series, especially the particular track "Distances".

It really is funny how certain people are avoiding this show for the baseline reason of whether they think it is BL or they think it is not. Having already read the source material before the drama came out, episode 8 was not a surprise but was executed so well. I really wished that the drama had more of that eerie nuance that was subtly displayed throughout the manga prior to the occurrences in episode 8 (it did have some but the art style and facial expressions of and from the manga were so fitting for the story). The acting really is superb and not too exaggerated (a common issue I have with manga/anime into live adaptations). Still got the same feeling of astonishment as when I read the manga towards the ending of episode 8 (which occurs in volume 4 of the manga that can be bought and read on Amazon/Kindle). Not sure how they will conclude the show towards the tenth episode, but I cannot wait to find out. I really appreciate GEO9875 for the English translations and have been looking forward to the show every week!
