Both Pursuit of Jade and Back from the Brink starts with a male lead and female lead who were just minding their own business until they finally meet.

A secretly powerful male lead who’s injured. A strong female lead who turns out to be someone crucial and important to them and the story. A love that looms after spending time together, which starts unintentionally.

Cinematography wise, Back from the Brink is far from Pursuit of Jade’s beauty but premise wise, there are some similarities.

The most prominent similarity between these two dramas is the cinematography. The camera angles, framing, blocking, color grading, visual effects, lighting, all so strikingly beautiful and well-done! The details are something to appreciate.

Aside from cinematography, they do have similarities with the mood, although not much. They both also feature strong female leads who has a secret identity.

If you want a similar Korean drama to Pursuit of Jade then I recommend The King in Love.

Both dramas have female leads that are good at martial arts but enjoy a life of freedom of their own. They’re both secretly daughters of important people but assume another identity for safety. The male leads also assumes secret identities. The character list is also full of visuals!

Mother of karma, revenge, polygamy, harem intricacies, and an annoying male lead.

The Story of Ming Lan and Story of Yanxi Palace basically focuses on how suffocating it is to be a woman during each drama’s respective time period.

Morally grey characters.

One kills for a cure to save many, another kills to stop others being harmed. One is a righteous lawyer who has to defend a murderer to save his child, another is a righteous detective who had to work with a murderer to investigate cases.

Putting aside how Wang Xing Yue stars both drama, Unveil: Jadewind and The Wanted Detective both centers around crime solving themes, a central plot that drives their pursuit of justice, female main characters that have great martial arts skills, and ensemble characters that have their own roles in the investigations. Both dramas also have some fantasy elements too in some of the cases.

Apart from crime solving, slow burn romance, and a story that runs case by case, the cinematography is stunningly similar. There are some differences with the color grading with Unveil: Jadewind being on the warmer tone while Judge Dee’s Mystery on the cooler tone, but the overall quality and look is pretty much the same.

Destined and Youthful Glory’s similarities lies in the arranged marriage trope, love after marriage, and their female and male leads.

In terms of character, both female leads started with reluctance before quickly accepting their fate with the arranged marriage. After marriage, it did not take them long to adapt and navigate their respective households with intelligence and wit. Both ladies took charge of their respective businesses and is more than willing to give back to the people due to their strong sense of justice. At some point in the stories, both female lead also experiences loss of their family member, although brief. These women are also great support for their husbands in different ways.

Aside being skilled in martial arts, the male leads are also similar in a way that they both work in politics and are more than ready to go to war if needed. Despite so, at home they super soft with their respective wives. They do not mind their wives doing business and they just protect and support them in the back whenever needed. Both couples have mutual respect for one another.
