The original novel and the donghua actually handle XiaoLuo’s romance much better than the drama. The romance in the drama feels underdeveloped mainly because a lot of XiaoLuo’s scenes were cut or shortened, so their relationship doesn’t get enough time to naturally develop on screen. There are quite a few moments in the original material that show their feelings and chemistry more clearly, but unfortunately, those moments didn’t make it into the drama.
That being said, I also think part of the issue comes from Zhou Munan’s writing style. He’s not exactly known for being particularly strong when it comes to writing romance, so even in the original story, the romantic development can sometimes feel subtle or understated compared to the action and brotherhood/jianghu aspects.
But there’s actually some hope for XiaoLuo fans. In his recent livestream, Zhou Munan mentioned that there will be more XiaoLuo CP scenes and that he’s been trying to improve his romantic writing. So hopefully, the drama will give their relationship more room to breathe this time and allow us to see more of their interactions, feelings, and chemistry instead of cutting them down. 😭
Basically, the potential for XiaoLuo is already there in the original material—the drama just hasn’t shown enough of it yet. If they actually keep more of those scenes this time, I think their romance will feel much more complete and satisfying.

vertical dramas aren't release in tv its more on vertical apps like douyin and other web drama sites. plus, vertical drama might be famous but most watchers are people wo doesn't really care about the artist, they just watch the drama then move on. so they don't care about this issues. I'm sure people who are only aware of this are people like us who follow entertainment news and the artist themselves. Also vertical dramas is a little laid back in terms with strict regulations compared to full length cdramas.

I believe that’s Crown Prince Ao Yu of Nanjue — the same person Xiao Se mentioned in Season 1. He’s the one Xiao Se gambled against at the Grand Golden Terrace, where Xiao Se won an entire city in Nanjue.

It’s just unfortunate that the drama skipped over that entire war segment, jumping straight to the part where Xiao Se returns and he announced the new emperor.
