I do not think Cheng Yi wants to be in this role
If he is not looking bored, he looks pained, or numb. There is zero chemistry or connection between the characters of any kind either the supposed friendships, family ties, or ML-FL. The story is just all over the place. Some of the makeup and characters are trying so hard to be strange or funny it is painful. The CGI and editing are shoddy. The fight scenes are predictable and not exciting or interesting to watch. Chen Yi gets to be a fashion plate with a lot of different outfits but hey at least he has cute clothes. Man I could go on and on but why. I am sticking with it because I am hoping at some point after the endlessly long scenery and character establishment there will be something more fun to watch, but not holding my breath. I am actually quite sad for CY because I know he has a huge fan following and I do think he is a decent actor or at least I liked him very much in Mysterious Lotus Casebook. Acting excellence and good chemistry
This is a really well acted, scripted and filmed series. All of the leads and secondary characters are relatable and believable. I would say one of the better series to come out in 2025 especially in comparison to the disappointing viewing of Journey of Legend. I am enjoying every episode and not fast forwarding through any of them. (Which for me is indicative of a truly gripping storyline and excellent in acting). Visually beautiful as well and the costuming is above par.Was this review helpful to you?
Feisty heroine, interesting hero, not padded as the usual costume dramas are with fluff
The story may not be original but the acting is excellent, the cinematography is also excellent, and the episodes are well-paced without being padded by unnecessary or wasted material. One of the better period pieces I have watched this year. Along with The Double I find that these less hyped series with less well known stars are turning out to be the best. I am hoping that this excellence continues through the remainder of Blossom but so far I am impressed by the quality and I find myself anticipating and looking forward to each episode as it is released which to me is the mark of a good drama. Plus the two leads have excellent chemistry so the connection between them and their love story is very believable.Was this review helpful to you?
Boring
I really like Li Hong Yi so I wanted to like this title but it is just trite and over or underacted. I find the FL annoying beyond words another one of those naive childlike types that irritate the heck out of me in these dramas. It is especially annoying after having watched Love in the Clouds, Fated Hearts and Legend of the Female General where all the FLs were smart, fierce, funny, witty with grit and courage of their own and no need to be rescued. Maybe she develops some spine or character later on in the series but I cannot be bothered with the slog to get there. Also the production values are not great so that is just adding insult to injury. There are so many good series out there now these less good ones can be left for a rainy day.Was this review helpful to you?
