what kdramas have been missing

this stays true to its name, a sweet and mellow series. it deals with the themes of grief and love very well. the characters are not anything new but they are well developed and have good arcs. usually kdramas have characters with interesting careers but they don't do anything with it but here it was so fun to watch a film critic who loved movies and a director who hates movies fall in love. there were so many lines in this which were so good, i felt like i needed to write it down.

a chaotic mess

a show about 5 girls named ploy with each ploy's story adapted from 5 different stories. its as messy as it sounds.
why does gmmtv take up projects like this if they are not going to put any money in it? u have so many incredible women in the cast, from main characters to side characters, yet u don't use any of them properly??????
i have multiple problems with the plot and pacing:
1. the yearbook mix-up only affected like 2 of the ploys, why did they make it such a focal point of the series, especially punk ploy being so mad abt it when it did not affect her
2. the girls weren't close as grown-ups other than prof and prez so a lot of the friendship moments felt forced
3. the guys, don't get me started, they were so hypocritical. like mek and thap were so mad at prez and pretty for 'cheating' but they could get along fine even though they thought the girls were dating the other?? even their hangouts were weird. u don't show them together as friends in their high school days, but in the last few episodes, they were suddenly friend group? they didn't even show pi as a part of the group until the plot moved on to plain ploy.
4. pretty and mek's story was the most interesting but they rushed to finish that in 3 episodes so it felt very bland.
5. kram was such a plain character, his name should be plain. all his decisions were dumb, im not even an actor and i could tell all his decisions were bad pr for both of them.
6. WHAT IS THIS SHOW'S OBSESSION WITH ALMOST SIBLINGS DATING EACH OTHER?!?!? kram being adopted by prof's mom, punk and tawan being adopted siblings?!?!?? i can pretend to ignore prof and kram cause they knew each before he was adopted and they were kind of grown when it happened but punk and tawan??!?!? he was brought into their family as her brother and they date?!?!?!?!
7. everything with tawan's ex-wife was a big mess im not even saying anything.
8. i will always be a punk ploy defender. i would be pissed too if my parents brought a random guy and said he is your brother, deal with him.....she was the funniest character here. her and pretty's silly fights were cute. they could have done tawan and punk differently. like punk's father is tawan's role model or something and punk being jealous and when the parents die they leave the gym to him, that would give proper reason for her anger.
9. the whole divorce thing with plain was also messy and didn't make sense, like which court operates like this??
10. thap and prez's story had potential but just like pretty and mek, they rushed everything into a few episodes so it was messy.
11. thap, punk and kram were shown as good friends in the flashbacks in the last episodes, but they don't seem to interact when they are grown up so???? feels like they were doing whatever with the script
12. im really disappointed that they didn't try to make the friend group thing genuine, it seemed fun in the last episodes.

they could have made this a bit better if all the things were happening around the same time instead of one by one. the highschool flashbacks could have been shown in order than putting random parts here and there, thap asking to date prez from the first reunion and finally getting together at the end etc etc

the costume/makeup department did well, you could feel the difference from when they were in high school to adulthood.
the prez vs punk moments were so funny to me, i remember namtan and film's insta stories showing bts where they are all lovey-dovey with each other
im glad i get to see them play adults, i was so tired seeing many of these actors play highschool students over and over.

Perfect Romcom

So fun!!!
Loser in love is one of my fave tropes and they 100% commit to it. They do the rom and com part of this show well. I liked the comedy as it was based on the insane premise of the female lead time travelling.

Cha Segye and Shin Seori both matched each other's crazy. The fact that he didn't question why she was acting like someone from Joseon era and just liked her as she is showed how insane he was. Loved all of their moments and I'm glad they continued to have that banter between them even after they got together. All of Cha Segye's yearning and angsty moments were amazing, top tier kdrama male lead for sure.

I'm not mad at the plot of the soul swap, I actually think it was a good and unique version of the cliche. Them being lovers in every timeline added so much depth to their story.

The villain was just too cartoon-ish, we could have avoided him and just have Cha Segye be a hated nepo baby but even then that didn't annoy me much.

Overall 10/10, I will definitely be rewatching some of these episodes

Idk how u all get past that age gap

I can't believe these pedophilic shows are the most hyped kdramas
I'm baffled at the whole show having a highschool student as its fl with a male lead who is 900+ years old. Yes, he is going to be older than anyone he meets but they could not have made her a college student or something. If their aim was to have a helpless yet cheerful fl they could have done that but no. straight up child and she was childish the whole time. Its said that she is 19 but a 19 year old in school is no way mature or 'legal' for grown ass people to date. The creators clearly wanted a literal child to be the main lead for the show. They even end the show by reincarnating her as a school girl.
The Grim Reaper-Goblin-Sunny arc was the best part of the show. Their story, how their pasts are connected, how they don't remember each other yet they cross each other's paths were all done well. The show should have been about the grim reaper and sunny's romance with the goblin being the 3rd person narrator and ji eun tak being someone they all mentor/brings them together. A found family trope if u may

The lore was good too, it was interesting till the last few episodes where it seems like they let go of the buildup so that people ended up together. I didn't drop the series for the sole reason of finding out the story, not because of the main couple.

another kdrama with characters who have potential to be great but falls into the generic ways

the synopsis and the first few episodes really made me excited. a girl boss who puts up a strong front and shields herself but not letting her emotions out and a sensitive guy who protects himself by keeping people at a distance. would make a great story right? but they just made this into a generic romcom

they fell in love too quickly without any obstacles. it would have been satisfying to see the ml wanting to connect with the fl and him being faced with the obstacle of not able to help her emotionally. these things did happen in the show but not as a heavy point in the plot. the writers did the easiest thing by making her grandma pass away, that just simply gave away a emotional opening. it felt too easy. and they started saying i love you way too quickly for me. it felt like 2 days after they were together they were in love.
even the second couple too, just jumping into marriage??? that too when the guy has so much trauma and ptsd???? bro should understand that a marriage will not wipe his problems away, he should try some therapy. they too had the potential to be great but the writers were lazy. i wonder if this has something to do with the situation in korea, with people not getting married.

the villagers and workers were supposed to be an important part to the story and be the comedic relief but i was not able to connect with them so everything relating to them was boring. i didn't find this series funny at all.

they also slightly over-did his sensitivity. wdym he knows the delivery man is sent by the enemy to swap the bottle because he is sensitive. i had to check whether this was a fantasy series cause they way they were showing his sensitivity u would think he had a superpower to read people's minds.

i don't think romcom dramas are for me. was very interested in this initially but after the couple got together it quickly became boring

For people who loved my precious the movie and want to relive the memories of tonglin’s first love. Also for people who want a heart-warming series about first love
I loved the movie and was so emotionally attached to it even though it’s a simple plot and it's safe to say I loved the series too.
The series is an expansion of the movie. It’s basically the movie with many of the extra scenes, which did not make it into the final cut. U get to see the characters more and explore their friendship and characteristics. They even show us more about their families and the dynamics in their homes which makes the kids who they are. I’m happy that they explore ja-oh more, it felt like she was a very small character in the movie. They also made it fun by making the girls and the guys interact together more, making them one big friend group. They felt very real, like a group of high schoolers, focusing on studies and college entrance, having silly contests, and hanging out at each other’s restaurants.
The series also subtly highlighted lin, who I think is a very different type of a female lead. She is a typical goody-two-shoes but not the annoying type. She is strict but not in the sense that she never has fun, she knows the time and place and the amount of fun they should have. She has a distaste for tong, but she never looks down him for getting less marks. She helps him and his whole group, though all of them don’t put equal effort. She is the popular girl but not in a mean girl type of way. She knows all the boys like her, but she never takes advantage of their feelings or uses them. Lin and ja-oh’s friendship also shines here, like how ja-oh isn’t jealous about all the guys liking lin or how Lin never uses the guy’s feelings to look more superior. She is a very good friend to all; we can even say a selfless friend but she never loses sight of her goals and ambition. She does not let anyone distract her from her dreams. Lin might be one of my favorite female leads.
They showed how Lin and tong slowly started to like each other and fell in love. I live for tonglin so I was very happy. My only complaint would be we didn’t get to see much of their dating era, which only lasted one episode. I came in expecting more of their dating before the breakup
The last episode was completely different from the movie and it was one of the best . I love how they gave each character their own career paths and love lives. I love how they waited for each other. I really love how they ended Tong & Lin’s story, how they waited for each other, and how tong describes his first love. His whole monologue was very beautiful. Truly a great ending. I had tears in my eyes
I’m sad that this might be one of the last times we see film-nanon in a project together, both of them have big projects lined up but I will be still waiting for more. Also, its high time View gets the role of a main lead, she has proven herself as a strong actress multiple times.
I will be definitely rewatching this, probably binge-watching this to fill my heart

a stylish revenge drama

the whole premise and backstory is good. we do take a lot of time setting up the story, we see our main character's usual life and how his whole world get manipulated into something sinister. we see every step of how he is blamed and how he copes with life in jail. i appreciate the time taken to show this part of the story. the next part onwards its a bit off.

realistically it would be way harder than this to take someone like yohan down but even if we set realism aside i just kinda wanted some genius play by taejoon to finally defeat him. they ended his character so easily. he has advanced technology, he's smart, he's ruthless. it's a pity that they just ended his character just like that. the revenge part was more depended on taejoon emotions rather than a solid plan.

maybe this series would have benefitted from more episodes

the action sequences were amazing. the car race, the jail fights, that motorcycle chase, yohan sword fighting, the final battle....all were such good action shots. the acting is great too

the characters aren't developed enough for the romance

to me this series was very weak and surface level. it felt like something that was thrown in last minute for jane and kao to act together.
both of our main characters are one dimensional and don't have much depth to them, so the cute stuff doesn't hit for me. at one point the they both ask each other why/what they love abt each other and both of them don't give solid answers, that itself shows how much the writers didn't develop the characters. Aokbab has this trauma with mind but it doesn't seem to affect her relationship with rin at all. won't someone who was betrayed in that way be wary of entering into a relationship with someone from the same field? they could have had depth there but instead we played a will she or won't she game for few episodes.
also rin being this highly demand designer without working in any company was ridiculous and to add to that we never see much depth abt her work and passion. like both of our leads are great architects but we never seem to connect them with it. Aokbab also gave into all of rin's demands so early on....like give it some time, make her like rin and then show us her doing everything to please her. i never understood at what point aokbab starts to like rin.
a good amount of this show is rin and aokbab being the cutest couple but that really doesn't mean anything without a solid story.

jane and kao were great and their chemistry was amazing but that's a given. hoping to see them in more solid works in the future.

we have seen multiple bullying focused kdramas over they years, many of them having a uniqueness to them. even this year there was pyramid game, which was very different from usual ones and handled bullying with more care. the only thing unique about this drama was its budget.

the revenge, bullying and romance didn't feel like it held weight. all the plot twists except for the murderer reveal were boring. i thought we all assumed they were brothers. it also didn't make sense for kangha to fall in love with jaei so fast (that too for no reason).

we can see that they intend for a 2nd season and where they are going with it but it would have worked better if they didn't tell that kangha was inha's brother. they should have made this season about the core 4 rich kids and their love and friendship. if this season had focused more on romance and then kangha coming in the middle innocently it would have been great. the previous scholarship student should have been just a passing thought.it would have set up for a more interesting 2nd season if the audience didn't know kangha's personal reasons for revenge. i think there might be love triangle in the next season

the romance felt rushed but it had potential to be great. the acting was not bad like all the social media commentary. im glad that these actors are getting main roles after seeing them be side characters. we need more hera and ujin romance pls

More like love at first sight

Thai gls are starting to lose me. Most of the shows I see only exist to show the lead actresses' chemistry and not to tell a story.
The show is named enemies with benefits, the pilot trailer and the official trailer all alluded to the leads being enemies with benefits but they were nothing like that. This is more of a love at first sight/one-night-stand thing cause both Lal and Wine instantly like each other and act married immediately. They were not even enemies, Wine was just strict.
I went in expecting banter, them hating each other yet being drawn to each other, navigating personal and professional boundaries etc.......I got nothing. They don't even do justice to the thai title 'Lal doesn't like Wine' cause Lal is the one who is 100% into Wine from the beginning. Their back and forth in the initial episode was good and I was so sad it died down.
The dynamics are also lowkey boring, it feels very similar to 'hello is this luck'
The stars are for the last half of the show and Wine's characterization. Wine was a good character, all of her fears and her experiences making her the person she is today and her awareness of herself were all great.
Jan and Jinging were great even though they didn't have much to work with. Most of the show was just them being lovey dovey with each other. KapookCize were just there but its good to finally see them as a solid pair. The side characters were good too, actually felt like a found family.
Osts were amazing. I wish they put more effort into styling cause I feel like we were supposed to feel a change in Wine physically after she starts dating Lal but we can't see that cause the styling is so basic. Lal's hair colour changing every episode was pissing me off.
I like stories in the same universe so I will be seated for bake love feeling.

our very own paradise, pluto

when the mock trailer dropped i literally screamed cause the last thing i expected was film to be in a gl. after that i got to know abt the novel this show is based on and prepared myself for a toxic mess but the show and the team surprised me a lot.

a lot of the story is changed, like the team took the prompt from the novel and wrote the rest on their own. and i think that was a great decision.
aioon and may are very morally grey characters who are humanized and made very vulnerable. they don't condemn their actions nor glorify them just two people falling in love in very unique (?) situation.
i loved the pacing, the first half showing us how ai and may fall for each other and the other half addressing the elephant(s) in the room.
this was a romance which satisfied me. we see both of them learning about each other, sharing their insecurities and deepest pains and finding comfort in each other instead of rushing.
i feel like they handled may's blindness and everything related well along with oom as a part of this. i really sympathize with oom and also see her pov. they wrapped up everything nicely. from the accident, oom's ptsd, grandma's love etc

the one thing that irritated me the most was the 'first love' thing which eventually becomes the reason why oom breaks up with may. that was so dumb to me. its not even first love, its a first crush if we are pushing it. i get that oom is deeply insecure but come on, at least u could have shown may reassuring her. and the way may kind of accepts the fact that she always wanted ai??? like did may and oom dating did not mean anything???? they could have made a more solid reasoning for their breakup. also i did not like that instead of being at least 5% mad at may for being one of the reason her so called best friend(given that i thought he died cause we never see him until way later on) is disabled and a orphan, ai overlooks it. that could have added a bit more depth to may's arc
to finish off the complaints, i think the editing was off and the faults were very noticeable in certain episodes, mostly in scenes where we cut from one location to a new one. the cinematography also didn't feel right in certain places. also was not no budget to make a intro/opening sequence, cause wtf was that? we have such beautiful actress, scenes and osts and u have video sequence with so much slideshow animation.....this show deserved a better one

the jaw dropping part of this series is namtan and film. their acting and chemistry??? off the charts. especially namtan, she played both oom and aioon so well u could totally tell them apart even. i been a fan of film but this was literally her best work. no words left for the chemistry.

the osts are so good too, they lyrics match with the theme so well.

pim, pang and jan were fun to watch even though they didn't add much. kapook my girl i will get u a gl where u end up happy (kapook gl with pipoly, cize and jan as her love interest for 2026 pls gmmtv)

overall a very good series, will definitely rewatch it

a good combo of cooking, romance and comedy

i love watching stuff abt cooking so i started this and i was kind of surprised.
at first i was not sure abt comedy but it worked well given how absurd our lead's situation was. the cooking parts were so mouthwatering and had a nice addition of giving us more knowledge.
the romance was also nice, they both fell in love at a good pace and his loserism was cute. all their convos and interactions were cute
the political things were a not needed imo, and the king being inspired from an actual king who was ten times worse was icky. couldn't they just make up some history and make up some king.

the ending lost me, ik ppl did not want another ktrauma but i lowkey wished for the angst. and they didn't even execute the ending well, how did he come to the future, how did he adapt so well, what was he doing all those months, why does he have all the memory and the rest of the cooks don't remember.

yoona and chaemin were great, they had nice chemistry and handled the comedy well. both of them brought their own charms

They promised us a messy toxic gl and it did deliver (to an extend)

I might be in the minority that actually did like this show.

Yes, it had its big flaws let's get that out of the way. The editing was ass and the song choices were horrible. We had music every 5 secs and it would have a different feel than what the scene is conveying. The fashion was bad too. All of these were very noticeable in the first few episodes but they got better by the end.

Story wise it had its flaws and inconsistencies but come on, very few gmmtv shows have good scripts. I would say this one is slightly better than most gls I have watched.
The pilot trailer hinted at mixing of pairs but I knew to not expect anything crazy, even then I was surprised at how much mixing and matching there was. Adding EmiBonnie was so much fun. All the 3 couples have different plots and are mainly connected through their work. My ranking on the couples would be ShashaGorya>PrimBambi>MinPraew.

Shasha-Gorya are MilkLove's best roles. Both of them gave their best performances as these characters. The chemistry was sizzling. They were the epitome of enemies with benefits to lovers (unlike the ewb which is airing rn). The way we could see their attraction to each other in the beginning but they both pull away due to their own reasons. Gorya was such a complex character even though we don't have a backstory for her beyond her feelings for Prim. She had her strict boundaries but that never meant that she would not help someone when they were in need, even if they aren't her friends. Shasha was so hot and deep, her trauma being shown at the middle of the show explains so much of her behaviour and how she builds a wall around herself to never be used like that again. All the girls gathering to support her was a sweet moment too. Shasha and Gorya's bickering was so fun and I'm glad some of it carried out into their relationship. The big let down of their plotline is how they got together, we had good jealousy moments which push them to be together but then we have a lacklustre scene where they become a couple. Honestly I don't even remember the scene where they decide to be a couple, that's how unmemorable it was. Shasha's mother plot also was boring and out of character, she made it clear from the beginning that she is not close with her mother so for her to come in the last episodes and suddenly have so much power over her career and nobody doing anything about it was so out of the blue. Other than these two things they were a 10/10 couple. Like I said, MilkLove's best roles, way better than whalestore.

Prim-Bambi were fun at first but it quickly got toned down. Yes, Bambi was unlikable and annoying but she was so much fun. She was bratty and bitchy i.e iconic. She didn't care who was getting disturbed or annoyed she just wanted to get what she wants and that was Prim. She was not shy about it and had so much audacity. But then we lose it. Prim's reason for getting back with Bambi was not good in the first place, but we can ignore it thinking its pity and codependency. Then we have Airy reveal Bambi's mistake (Bambi was at fault for Zee's death, not completely but still she has a huge part in it) and then suddenly Bambi has a personality change. She suddenly doesn't want Prim's love if it is out of pity. I was very confused at this. The Bambi we met didn't care how she got Prim, she wanted her in any way, why care about the details now. And then suddenly she seems to question whether she is a burden to Prim and that she doesn't want to be with Prim if she is going to be in her way. That whole thing was ridiculous to me. Their breakup in the past was lame in itself, you know for a fact that an independent filmmaker is going to be 10 times more busy and desperate than anyone else, but then using the same reason now? But in this present Bambi was with Prim 24/7, she always walked into the studio like she owned the place so what more does she want? Plus if she was so reluctant to be a burden why do all that in the beginning? Why come and force yourself in situations when your plan was to leave in the first place? I know that Bambi has mental health issues but they are never explored properly. It would have been better if she was this bratty character throughout the series.
All this to say Prim sucked too. Her fight with Min about the leave was so illogical. Like you are not a corporate worker, you are running an indie film making company, you can't just ditch big clients because you think your girlfriend needs a break. All those issues could have been solved if Prim opened her mouth and talked with Bambi but I guess that makes up the toxic aspect of their relationship. At least Prim was consistent. Their reunion would have hit more if we had developed it over many episodes
I think so many inconsistencies with this couple could have been addressed by highlighting the class difference between the two and how it affects their relationship.
This whole couple dynamic was toxic af but was entertaining to watch in the beginning. Chemistry was good, but not as good as pluto.

Min-Praew, my biggest disappointment. From the pilot trailer and the official trailer I thought Min would be fresh out of a relationship and wants to experiment with a girl and Praew offers to be an experiment- Praew falls first and then develops even deeper feelings and prepares herself for a heartbreak and then as a shock she finds out that Min likes her too and then they navigate their relationship. But here they almost instantly become a couple and even though Praew says that Min can take all the time that she needs she starts pressuring Min almost immediately to go public and put a label on herself. There is nothing more to this couple than this plotline getting repeated. They were also very weird about bi ppl. Such a waste (just slightly better than OatNene)

Another complaint I have is their kissing scenes. These girls know how to kiss so why did it look like they were kissing for the first time in many scenes. Someone pointed out that all of them kiss with their mouths closed and I can't unsee it now. There were some high emotional moments which end with a kiss but they end up kissing each other on the cheek like friends.

Even though I have all these long ass complaints I enjoyed watching this show more than most gls. Idk why ppl are acting as if its the worst gmmtv show, this is better than most gmmtv gls. Ppl saying 4elements is better than this when that show barely has any plot and is just insta love. I think people are ultimately not ready for an ensemble gl, if all these 3 couples had 3 separate shows with the exact same plotline they would be showered with praises.

The main ost was bad but the rest all were amazing. The fashion got better but still, these girls are ambassadors of luxury brands, u could do better.
The integration of the friend group was nice and felt very natural. Gmmtv should just get rid of the fixed pair system cause the potential all these pairs have is insane. Namtan-Love, Milk-Film, Emi-Love, Milk-Bonnie, Emi-Milk.....like i need shows with them all yesterday!!!! I'm sad that my girl Tu wanted to appear in this but was not allowed to, there goes my Milk-Tu dreams.

I had a great time and will definitely be seated for a s2 with EmiBonnie as KrisBaipor. Add all the new couples too!!!

Something GMMTV should try every year

I was only going to watch this for janjingjing but ended up watching the whole thing. GMMTV should really do stuff like this every year, adds some variety to their roster beyond the usual fixed pair series. I liked all the pairs and combos that we got that we got. Also really like how all the stories are connected by the theme of using rituals/beliefs to find love.
That being said they could have really given us one fully gl slot, no leemahi+na don't really count. We had 2 bls, the least they could do was give one gl.

-'Hi my luck' and 'hello is this luck' were the best stories. So cute and layered, especially hello my luck with Na's story. I really liked all the couples too.
-Noticing Parn was the only good thing from 'not my father', will be looking for her other series
-Diva Deva Mata was a bore to me, not my kind of humour
-Fist foot fusion tried, should have been a primpiploy gl
- love lock and love me if u swear were boring to me too

vibes and feels: 100%, plot not so much

the japanese remake of the famous korean series. i haven't watched the Korean one but i know most of the plot and expected many of the things that happened in this series.
I could not get what they were trying to communicate at some serious moments. It could be the language barrier or the formal style that they speak but i felt disconnected from what they were trying to convey.
ren, out male lead was too much of a mysterious broody guy for most of the show. we couldn't get anything out from him. we do get his vulnerable side and the reasoning for why he is so closed off but that just felt like the focus shifted from ren-mui to ren-chiaki
our female lead mui was too timid and kinda got pushed around easily. I hate the falling at first sight love so her doing exactly that after being heartbroken was off putting.
the side couples has better development and endings. saki and megu are cuties
the aesthetics and vibes were a 100% perfect. the photos in the middle, the art, the music playing behind were all so good
