Exactly. I am first impressed with her natural acting and charisma in Romance of Tiger and Rose. She shined the brightest there. The series itself is brilliant and so is her character and performance. She was also wonderful as Le Yan in TLB and her character is a bit different, she does grow from weak to stronger. I have also watched her Sheng Nan in Dating in The Kitchen and I did like her character spunkiness at least for the first 15 episodes before the writing goes downhill and her character made stupid decisions.

But this one, I watched a few episodes and can't continue anymore. She's cute and her acting is fine, but the storyline and character and so many other aspects of the drama are not my cup of tea I guess. Since I saw the rating here is high and many people are liking this. Her ML here is not clicking with me too. Not the way it clicked beautifully with Han Shuo, Hao Du or even uncle Lu Jin.

I like Zhao Lusi but dropping this show for now, it's not working for me. It's a letdown to me after the wonderful Romance of TIger and Rose and the epicness of The Long Ballad. I don't even enjoy this as much as the equally small cost fluffy romcom DITK.

ZLS is adorable and charismatic as always, ML is a cute fresh meat but not feeling much from him yet, maybe he'll grow shortly. The storyline is too cliched and all over the place, don't know how to put it into words.

Haha same same. Let's just hope that the cut scenes are just some stuff that won't disturb the flow(and the chemistries ^^). Just being happy a promising and beautiful looking drama finally passed the review and get the green light to air

June 2021? Do shows normally can be released as fast as 1 month after passed the review? Not familiar with the timeline. I mean surely they need to work on marketing, scheduling and other arrangement?

yes cutting scenes is never good news, however the fact that there is news of the production team revising things/cutting scenes means that they are actively trying to get this show to air as soon as possible to appease us who are waiting here ^^

It is still better than letting the series rot out in deep freezer for years waiting for the full uncut version to get approved by SARFT and still having to cut in the end in a few years when the VFX/CGI all become outdated and many other BL series have aired by then

Just to add, Yuan Ziyi in the novel also has contradictions in her identity as a nun and her flirtatious behaviour with Hu Fei/her killings and other things.

Except for Cheng Ling Su and Hu Fei interaction, Hu Fei chemistry/friendship with god-elder-sister 'Ma Chun Hua' is a likeable relationship. This is the second main theme of the novel besides his revenge for Feng Tiannan and among the better developed plots of the novel. Hu Fei later on get entangled with Ma's love story with Qing's official Fu Kangan and her twin kids.

The other good relationship line is Hu Fei's friendship with 'Zhao BanShan' who he treat like an elder brother of some sort.

oh interesting. Now I keep seeing good comments on casting LXY as Yan Wushi despite he looks quite young for it but yes that can be done well with makeup and styling. Hrm not interested in the drama Qing Luo though.

Parts of them:
Ambiguous treatment towards Hu Fei's love and how Hu Fei only falls for her beauty.

[HUGE SPOILER] She also prevented Hu Fei from killing her own biological father Feng Tiannan (and indirectly results to Hu Fei's foster family murdered tragically by him) when the father actually had made her life miserable since childhood. The whole book main theme is about Hu Fei chasing Feng Tiannan to seek revenge for his foster family.

She also is being compared with Cheng Ling Su who is not only smart and honest, but also loved Hu Fei with all her hearts despite looking like ordinary woman - although sadly he never loves her back. She even uses her own life to save him in the end.

I read the novel long long ago but below are some rough idea. However this is only based on the novel, I heard some live adaptations actually made Yuan Zi Yi more likeable such 1984 Kara Hui movie, and Wong Jing's 2007 by Athena Chu. So there is chance that Liang Jie will be made likeable in the adaptations. Only heard because I haven't watched them since IMO and also many other reviews these two books 'fei hu wai zhuan' and 'xue shan fei hu' are not Jin Yong's top tier books. At most only second tier in term of reading enjoyment/storyline/characters. Most of the characters in fei hu for instance are too one dimensional as opposed to condor trilogies or demi gods.

Short reference to Jin Yong work somewwere in the middle where FL uses the name 'Zhao Min' for her parcels and ML follow suit bu using 'Zhang Wu Ji' for his. (Zhao Min and Zhang Wu Ji are main OTP for Heaven Sword and Dragon Sabre-the 3rd novel in the Condor trilogy). When FL noted this and asked about 'Zhou Zhiruo' ML retorted that there is no Zhiruo in his version.

Side note: IRL the ML actor LYS acted as Zhang Wu Ji's advisor 'Yang Xiao' where he got pretty good reviews in the 2019 web drama adaptation.

It could've been a wonderful fluff romcom had the plot and FL character not taking a tumble somewhere along the story. ML/FL chemistry and acting are nice IMO despite the jarring age gap, the color palette and shots are fine and quite artistic, reminiscing kdramas but the plot become typical cdrama trope with evil stepbrother and flimsy FL suddenly at the last arc. Which suddenly made me realize that this series actually doesn't have much of a plot at all and was just riding on the fluff of the 2 main leads. Side romances are not that interesting. Quite sad because despite the lack of plot and character development, this could've been good just being a fluff if the last few episodes and FL character didnt take a downturn.

Simply wonderful, hilarious and creatively written romcom and the lead Zhao Lusi is amazing and utterly adorable. This series deserves the hit reputation. Love that the FL is intelligent enough.

On the positive side, there is progress on this show which means they really want to air this, despite need to cut 5 episodes. Let's just hope the editor is skilled and just cut some filler useless scenes or some taboo political stuff haha. Can't wait anymore.
