I just noticed the director was the one direct Rattan and Goodbye My Princess. He just won Most Outstanding Director award last night at Tencent anniversary. OMG! His past dramas are wonderful and have great production values!
LYN did such a great job in The Long Ballad. I will definitely check out this drama because of him and Joseph.
I concur, and OMG Joseph new series Time Flies-- is so bad. Its better off to wait for this drama and see Joseph and LYN together. This one looks so much better visually and plot-wise.
Officially dropped this drama. How can Joseph Zeng got into himself into something atrocious like this? He has good track record before with HSDS 2019 and Ultimate Note!
Guess we better wait for his next wuxia drama with LYN titled Heroes. At least that one looks beautiful visually and looking better budgeted.
The latest rumor I heard is Luo Zheng is being casted as Xie Lian and Xu Xinchi for Hua Cheng, and Luo Yizhou in a supporting role but all just RUMOURS so far.
I was wary on this drama at first because of the low score in Douban and because the novel is among JY's top tier in the Condor trilogy. But surprisingly I enjoyed it lol. Posted this privately long ago but here goes my ramblings:
What I like: - Zhao Min. Her wittiness and frank persona is executed well and she's cute although near the ending she becomes a bit too melancholic. I thinkYukee Chen did well here. - Zhao Min and Zhang Wu Ji the OTP has good chemistry and the melancholic feel sits down well with me. - Yang Xiao. So elegant and charismatic. Too bad the drama cut short his screen time abruptly. According to novel there should be more, however YX in this adaptation conforms close to the novel's description. LYS did well here. - Zhang Wu Ji. Unlike many sentiments, I think Joseph Zeng is fine and likeable as ZWJ and his age fits ZWJ in the novel perfectly. -ZWJ relationship with his Wudang uncles and how little Wuji bonding with the uncles were shown. Also little ZWJ bonding with Xie Xun. -The Ming Cult elders interactions(+ZWJ) in the middle. However the script made most of them(except YX) scumbag gossiping old men near the end. What a letdown. -The visuals was really good. They went to real life locations which have beautiful sceneries to film, fantastic cinematography. -Female casts are all pretty, although the makeup does make them look so similar at first glance lol. Emei folks look like models. -Little ZWJ and teenage ZWJ are cute and act really well!
Mediocre to Bad: -ZWJ parents - Zhang Cui Shan and Yin Su Su. They don't give me much feels. -Mediocre fighting choreography. -Some loose writings in the plot. -The ending episodes. The writers took some liberty to tweak certain parts for dramatic purpose. There are some parts I feel uncomfortable with. -I think the ending could be done better. -
It's a shame that Lusi is the MFL because I can't stand her as an actress the only thing that I actually liked…
Each to their own. Maybe cutesy/comical roles are not your cup of tea. For me ZLS is one the most natural C actress in cutesy/comical role. Other actress often exaggerate or overdoing their cuteness making it so cringy but ZLS took hers like a stroll in the park, so natural. As many people have mentioned too, not many actress also has ZLS ability to play and generate chemical sparks with every type of ML. She's so refreshing. I've seen the BTS for her dramas at least for these past 2 years, her MLs are all so comfortable and happy with her.
I'm looking forward for her serious strong FL role and her OTP with Yang Yang.
@DramaOpinion regarding the FL I think the drama is a bit misleading. Prince An's role is did more than her and has more weight in the storyline. I don't know why the official title and posters made the FL the main lol. This might left some who ate expecting the drama to revolve mainly around a super main FL disappointed
Personally I think the drama deserves higher rating than the 8.2 here(as of now 27/5/21).
Hats off to the scriptwriters! This is such a brilliant gem. Despite the lack of budget they manage to make it one of the best this year so far with the superb script which was also executed well by the director, production team and actors. Every character was written carefully, especially Prince An. Every character is understandable and likeable (maybe other than the FL brother which I think is there for dramatic purpose and to balance the overly intelligent leagues of characters haha)
The unknown/newbie casts may not be the most powerhouse in term of acting, but they are fresh in the eyes and are easily likeable. The FL has enough presence despite sometimes she does look a bit underwhelmed in her acting. The romance is sweet enough and ML/FL has nice chemistry, and nicely written so as not to overwhelm the main plot in hand.
Overall, a suprisingly brilliant drama. Thumbs up!
I was really impressed with her acting in TLB and I enjoyed watching Romance of Tiger and Rose, but I don't know…
Is this for real? Why would they? I'm sure she's bringing them with a lot of money with her popularity now. But personally it is indeed uncomfortable for me to watch her in this drama just shortly fresh after watching her in TLB where she was wonderful as Li Le Yan.
