who is the FL in this? the synopsis made me confused

i thought from the start the ariel was not actually real he obviously disappeared suddenly and no one interacted with him other than nao and tomoki who probably knew
but i liked him thooo T_T
also its kinda sad??? since he was his " first follower" and everything
overall nao's character was really sad T_T
