Well buckle up because everything kicks off in ep4. I agree the first couple eps need editing, I skimmed them…
Everyone says how wonderful episode 4 is so if I don't reach satisfaction at 6/10, I will hold everyone accountable ;)

This series for me is perfect before bedtime. It is so slow and uninteresting that I fall asleep :)
Or maybe it’s not? The excess of form over content is so annoying that it gave me a headache in the morning :(
In any case, I understand where the director is going, but, heck, it shouldn't be a slow art cinema with a forced atmosphere and veeeeeeeeery long shots, but a story with some thrill of suspense. I'm sorry, after watching three episodes I keep wondering when something will finally start to happen and FL will stop being so annoying as the stereotypical image of a psychopath in the eyes of the average person. If nothing interesting happens in the fourth episode, I think I will say to this drama “goodbye.”

i don't think you need to have watched stranger as it's a separate story entirely :)
Usually, if a prosecutor gets a job in Seoul, he stays there for a long time and if he doesn't get into trouble, he might not be transferred at all. But if he does, he ends up in some backwater and has to hope for some luck, some big case, to get back to Seoul. DJ is counting on something like that, so he moved out by himself so that the kids wouldn't have to change schools (one is preparing for college exams). From what I've seen, he has a rather happy, loving family :) His wife was in the second season of Stranger and she was a beautiful woman.

Wait,so how old is his character here?
I would say between 40 and 50. 43? In the previous series, 2017, he was around 35, I think.

girl it's the reality of those times
I don't judge historical times based on the film, I judge the film based on how it approaches historical times. But others may, and it is hurtful to their perception of the past. But maybe that's the point, to convince them that the past is a perverted civilization, so since we should learn from the past.... To me it is just distasteful.

I think USA payed for that such script ..( read comments before that Korea do movies as USA wished ...due to all…
I miss the old days, where K-dramas were what they were, because they were really beautiful, interesting and every scene had meaning and purpose. I don't know if this is actually the influence of pressure from abroad or a sign of the passage of time and cultural change, but I don't like it :(

once again... if you find it too slow, simply skip forward in certain scenes (just walking etc.)...
Why? I ask seriously, because for me a drama, book or movie is a holistic product, where every aspect is judged, because each element is an indispensable part of the whole. If the viewer has to scroll through long-winded scenes, or flip through pages of long, nothing-increasing descriptions or explanations, then it is the product's fault that it screwed up with the pace. If the action in a movie happens too fast, should I go to the projector operator and tell him to run the tape at 0.5 speed?

I understand your intentions, but the slowness of some scenes or the fact that they go on too long affects the reception of a given drama, because it knocks you out of rhythm, or doesn't allow you to get into the right rhythm. This is, of course, a very subjective impression, but if similar comments about the length of scenes are repeated enough for you to repeat your comment, however, I believe that the problem lies in the drama, not in a very subjective feeling. Sometimes dragging out a scene by two seconds, even by one second, is too long, and this title has far too many such scenes. So I would have to watch the whole thing at speed 2 and additionally still FF. So what sense does it make?

I have the impression that some people gave a lower rating because of the lack of subtitles. I know that this is practiced. It's a shame, because this is not an evaluation of the drama itself. The acting, direction, cinematography, plot, etc. have nothing to do with whether or not the viewer has subtitles in a language they understand. It's like punishing an excellent hotel for the fact that the vacation didn't go well because it rained.

all these write up just from 2 episodes 🤣😂 please. it’s a mystery thriller ffs
I haven't found anything under that title If you mean Dong Jae, the Good or the Bastard, I actually like it a lot. So did Secret Forest, the first season. It too developed slowly, but we had a very interesting dynamic between FL and ML, who was a bit slow, but thanks to his flaws very likable and entertaining. I also really appreciate Through the Darkness, which is slow, but again ML is likable thanks to his flaws and dynamic thanks to its interactions with other characters. Well, I will see how Doubt develops. ML should now make a decision and maybe that will speed up the action a bit and add dynamics. Because now, unfortunately, he behaves like someone between a sociopath and an arrogant asshole and this is not my type of a ML. At least that's how I perceive him at this moment.

Well, so I would expect some suspense when watching a mystery thriller. I know they throw crumbs of mystery, but I'm not interested in a mystery of boring people. And it's been two episodes already. Just my impressions.

I think I like least what others like most - an annoying judge with romantic problems and a lovely traumatized puppy.. A matter of taste. For me, this drama is very, very average.

The camera work, blocking, lighting and building of visual tension and action are masterful. Unfortunately the scenes are too slow, a few seconds too long and the script didn't interest me. There is a good portrayal of ML's external and internal conflict, unfortunately FL was written in such a way that I don't care if she's actually a psychopath, a rebellious teenager seeking her daddy's attention or a self-proclaimed brilliant detective (the latter is rather off-putting, since it's not a J-drama). Well, I guess that's the problem: the drama relies on obvious patterns, and although visually it looks nice and everything is done correctly, there is no tension in it for me. Both daddy and daughter are two boring slugs for me. And yes, I know, it's supposed to develop slowly, but this slowness is so uninteresting.

For me so far 10/10, although the subtitles were weak. I laughed so hard at the first two episodes that I almost peed myself. This is an amazingly good example of how a well-played third-person role from some series can sell its own series very well. Only my dear prosecutor SDJ can get into such trouble :).

I hope its good, as per usual I will wait for all episodes to be completed before I start watching
On the first two episodes I laughed so much that I almost peed. For me, these episodes were great! But this is just the beginning. I hope they won't spoil this drama.
On Dong Jae, the Good or the Bastard Oct 12, 2024
I started watching without subtitles and, paradoxically, I understood what was going on, but not enough to watch the whole episode. And to tell you the truth, I regret that I started at all, because it is difficult for me to wait. The music immediately transported me into the atmosphere of the main series. Otoke, otoke? I have to wait patiently, but based on the few minutes I've watched, I think that for me this drama could be a hit :) I'm afraid that LJH may become one of my favorite actors ;)
On The Rise of Ning Oct 9, 2024
I will give this drama a chance. Ren min is a good actress and looks beautiful in the trailer. In general, the trailer makes a not bad impression. I wonder how soon there will be absurdity in the drama that I won't be able to digest ;)

girl it's the reality of those times
I don't know, I didn't live in those times, and as a historian dealing with antiquity (although not of this country) I think many people have too much of a warped idea of the past. It really wasn't just kinky sex and uncontrolled violence. So here I'm more concerned with how the filmmakers approached the subject. For me, as a viewer, a scene where a random man does a certain thing with some woman adds nothing to the plot. It doesn't show the realities of the era, because in every era people had sex. Even when we have the main couple in a passionate embrace, there is no passionate context, there is the physical act of copulation itself. Seriously? The creators clearly meant to put sex in every scene where they could. So it's not even about what's shown, but how it's shown. Well, and whether people used to live like that or not has nothing to do with whether the viewer likes the character. I'll give the example of “Gladiator,” which is a rather likable movie and Maximus is one of the more beloved characters because the script and director portrayed him in such a way that it's hard not to like him. If in this drama someone had tried to build the characters as they should be, I might have cheered for FL and mourned for her husband. However, they were portrayed in such a way that, for me, their story has no stakes and no meaning. I don't get involved in their fate, they just don't matter to me and thus I don't care about the drama itself. But that's just my opinion.
