the FEMALE LEAD!! she's so hot, one. but also. her character. love seeing a complex morally grey female character that's well written for once. shes so hilarious and adorable i love watching her scenes i wanna know more about her.
awaken is what happens when you give one of the best possible ideas, put together an incredible cast and sketch out characters interesting enough then hand it to the worst possible writer. it had so much potential from the start but instead the writer spend all the time on unmemorable dialogue and the ML. its not really uncommon for kdramas to forget all about their FLs misogyny always becomes their weak point but this just completely sidelined their FLs till i genuinely forgot about hyewon was a part of this too sometimes. they did the rest of the cast so dirty, hardly paid attention to the interesting side characters spend an unnecessary amount of time on the villains and the ML and just everything unnecessary.
like for example, the siblings thing. it could have been revealed earlier and then focused on their reconciliation instead we got all that weird love triangle mess and hardly and sibling bonding moments. jaewoong omg they did jaewoong so dirty. and jamie?! why was she the only one that lost her powers and what made her special why is she the only one left with nothing but trauma? (misogyny) both him and jamie were such interesting characters but they were sidelined completely, and i get so mad each time i think about what they did with jamie i absolutely loathe the writer for it.
they paid the most attention to the ML but really you don't get too attached to him either bc there's no real character development or resolution of his trauma, nor does he really find a home or a family by the end of it. hyewon had so much potential but first they reduced her to love interest and then forgot all about her. they could have shown more about the special team's relationship, the ones btw the four kids that survived (yeah even that guy), focused a little on character development or just any one of the relationships but god they did this so poorly it made me bitter.
well still, the cast here did a great job they're the only reason i made it to the end, i didn't even care about the plot after maybe the 8th ep. but the script did the cast so dirty too idk what to say.
to put it lightly, this show sucks. still the idea behind the story itself and the characters have so much potential i get angry just thinking about it. i wish i could do it all over along with the same cast so they're given justice.
