I got about 15 minutes in and then couldn't continue - it's too annoying and awkward. I'm all for effeminate characters, as long as they're characters, and not caricatures. Here they're caricatures. I'm not even bothered by VERY effeminate behavior, but in Asian dramas, "effeminate" seems to mean "totally lacking in any type of self-control", and they all have drag-queen-sized personas. Contrast: PP in ITSAY was the "strong silent type" of effminate gays, and Tuan Viet in Nations Brother was the ONLY character with self-control (and both were sexy as f#$). It can be done.
There needs to be countevailing positives, and there are not. The acting in this is flat and artificial, and the plot full of cliches and clunky attempts at humor.
It's beautifully shot, though - so much so that I watched it for as long as I did.
Here's my theory about Tul: Tul is evil. He grabbed Tian's shoulder in exactly the same way the bad boss did. Coincidence, or foreshadowing? Also, he got from Bangkok to Chiang Mai in the amount of time it took to have lunch, which he could only have done if he used his evil-person powers to teleport, or turn into a bat and fly there. Well, a bat with a jet engine strapped to it.
Earth should be in movies. It's not just that he's stunning, his acting is so understated and powerful, with so much emotion crammed into subtle looks, and his eyes are so expressive. I'm seriously on the verge of tears every time he's onscreen. I'm actually worried about him - I'm not sure how someone could radiate loneliness and longing with that much power and not be miserable.
Mix is good too - enough to hold his own, but it's hard not to be overshadowed.
Earth should be Darcy in a Thai BL version of Pride & Prejudice. I want to see him in 19th c formalwear.
I know on some level that I shouldn't like this show for a number of reasons, but I really like this show - it's so cute. Prab's jealousy is so endearing, and Chon's smile is a killer.
Their parents just got married, and they had already known (and hated) each other for a brief period. They aren't blood relations and they didn't grow up together. It's actually a really cute show.
I'm very bothered that Olan didn't kiss the other guy on the orgy scene. If they are pulling off a gay cure on…
Olan did kiss the other guy, who grabbed him, threw him down on the best, and went at him. Which was the most realistic thing that happened this episode, because who would not?
I'm with you though - I'm hoping they can explore a close friendship between a gay man and a woman without it going there. If Olan identified as fluid or bi, fine, but he as explicitly identified himself as gay, so having him flip is not acceptable.
The problem with casting Royce Cabrera for a role like this is that it's totally implausible that anyone could possibly choose anyone over him. Unless you have Ron Angeles as an option, and maybe even then.
There is too much going on in this series, and it's hard to care about any of it (I cared a lot when Roy was walking the cow, though). I don't even understand what's going on with the main couple - what does it matter what their fathers did? How did we get from there to Ben cuddling naked with Royce Cabrera? Some things are back story, but others are the actual story, and skipping all of it in this way is confusing and severs the narrative. If that's what they were trying to do, then applause is in order.
They are adding in all these characters to be inclusive, but instead it becomes tokenism. If you want to do a story featuring a trans character, then make a series about that, or at least make it important to the plot - I have no idea who these people even are. Is that really being inclusive?
The quality of the production is good, and most of the acting, but Ben is so inauthentic that it's hard to like him - and it doesn't help to have all his scenes be with someone of much greater acting ability.
This was a slog to get through - I want to like it, but it just can't pull me in.
I was looking forward to this based on the concept trailer. The final product felt OTT and riddled with stereotypical…
I'd like to think the writing is clever enough to use tropes to mock tropes, but it doesn't look like it. We probably lose some meaning in translation - e.g. I'm not sure what was going on when the boy agent caught the girl agent when she tripped. The title of the fake series is awesome though.
I'll give it a chance - sometimes there are surprises. I wasn't sold on 1000 Stars from the trailer because I was sure they were going to make Phupha able to like a guy only because the heart of a woman he loved was in the guy, but they totally did NOT do that. Like the opposite of that.
The other thing is that the concept trailer covered a lot of what was in this ep, but differently. They had Kao be colder in Ep 1, so the audition scene didn't have the same impact, etc. - when things aren't as you looked forward to, it can be disappointing even if it shouldn't be.
In the trailer, Gene is upset because Kao has been lying to him, so maybe that's why they made him seem Not Quite Right in this ep. We'll see...
They really tried haaaaarrrrrddd to be funny fluffy comedy.... like I don't think they need to go this far, but…
I was like "20? Seriously?" I agree that something was really off - really fake. It was kind of hard to get into the episode because it was slow and I have no idea who Gene is supposed to end up with, because it sure didn't seem to be Nubsib.
I might be the only person who actually liked the sound effects they put... they just cracked me up. I was laughing…
I almost stopped watching. A few are fine and can be funny, but this was to the point of laziness or lack of faith in the actors to make us feel things - they had to indicate what we're supposed to feel with cartoon noises. If next episode is like this again, I don't think I'll be able to continue. You can't have them all the way through an ep - it's fine for the comic relief characters and some key moments, but jeez.
I was disappointed - I was really looking forward to this. FIrst, the sound effects. Fuck. A few well-placed ones can be funny, but after a while, you start to think they don't have any faith in the actors if they have to punctuate all their acting so we know what to feel. And for a series parodying BL, they sure use a lot of tropes unironically.
The plot is too slow, in a boring way. I'm all for slow-burn romances, but I can't even tell who the main pair is yet. I don't know if they forced Kao at gunpoint to take this role or he's deliberately acting like a bad actor, but if the latter is the case, he's a fake who's hiding something and not "the one". The uncertainly would be fine, but it wasn't interesting enough for me to care. In the trailer the rehearsal scene was intense, but here it wasn't - it fell really flat. Not sure what's going on.
The actor playing Oy is so strong that I'm not sure what his role is - in the bathroom scene he was so sympathetic, sweet, and vulnerable that it was hard to believe he's a villain.
Gene is a great character and well-acted, so there's real potential here for a good series, but I don't see it yet. Maybe my reaction is not positive because the sound effects were so f#$%ing annoying and lazy. Or ,maybe it's that the trailer is too different from the actual show so what I built up in my head isn't there.
Aslo, I'm still waiting for a BL with no poop jokes. Are we 5?
LOL, I was thinking that too. First question: "So you're the god of love, eh? Soooo, you must be really good at…
But I liked that Tae explained why he was upset, and his reasons were realistic, like he would have avoided making people uncomfortable with his attentions, which is not "typical BL". Normally don't communicate and stretch out conflicts artificially.
But Tae should probably ask Nite if he'll be OK sitting around in his house by himself all day instead of just taking him for granted. If you saw He's Coming to Me, Ohm was always worried about how alone Singto was. Alhough to be fair, Nite can teleport, so it's not like he's stuck there.
I know on an intellectual level that this is bad. but I can't stop watching it. I think maybe it's because it…
Slutty engineering student characters.
I agree, there's a maturity the characters are showing, and their reactions to things make sense. Like Tae explained why he was hurt instead of just lashing out at everyone and creating artificial drama through implausible lack of communication. Tae's line "If I knew they were together I wouldn't have avoided making anyone feel uncomfortable with my feelings" was really relatable and realistic, so things like that earn this show some points.
Also, in a "standard" BL, Tae (besides being an engineering student, or the now-acceptable medical student) would be your typical willowy, fragile 12-year old Victorian virgin girl trapped in a man's body uke/bottom, so the way he grabbed Nite like he owned him was unexpected and hot.

I really do understand your point, and I agree to an extent - but I make a distinction between productions from larger companies like GMMTV and a really small-scale production like this. For example, things like getting the sound right is expensive - it requires a lot of equipment and set/location design.
But you can usually tell when the production is trying hard and putting passion into it or just grabbing for the money, and I don't feel like this one is grabbing for the money. I have to give them points for trying something new - they could have just made it formulaic. If Tae were an engineering student I would probably agree with you more. LOL.
And when people are trying hard, they tend to improve, so I like to support the little people.
I realize that it's not very good, but I actually kind of like it. The frolicking on the beach was cute and the boys are sexy. There's something kind of hot about the large size difference between them.
There needs to be countevailing positives, and there are not. The acting in this is flat and artificial, and the plot full of cliches and clunky attempts at humor.

The bunny scene was priceless.
I believe they go to a private school, so the uniforms are different. Either that or some special school. They mentioned it briefly in the first ep.
I'm with you though - I'm hoping they can explore a close friendship between a gay man and a woman without it going there. If Olan identified as fluid or bi, fine, but he as explicitly identified himself as gay, so having him flip is not acceptable.

If not, LET IT BE MORK! With you 100% - so hot.
