Hopefully they're quick learners. I feel for Solo - it's really hard to act and be appealing if you're not allowed to smile - that takes a really strong actor to pull off.
The acting is a bit wooden at times and the story is rather incomprehensible at this point.
A "bit" wooden? A fencepost would have been more compelling than either Solo or Gui. I honestly don't understand why Thai BLs only seem to cast their good actors in side roles. I'm getting to the point of fast-forwarding though everthing that doesn't inclide Kao or Petch. And the story is incomprehensible at this point because there is no story to comprehend.
I also think it is annoying but this kind of girl is part of the BL culture, BL has survive all theses years thanks…
I get your point, but this was a serious invasion of privacy - Thai BLs seem to have almost no social consciousness - half the characters are racist rapists or offensive stereotypes.
It's a bit slow and it lacks excitement. I have no issue with the acting though.
The main couple are not very good actors - the side characters are better, which is a recurring them in Thai BL. I don't understand why they don't just cast the interesting people in the main roles. If it were the actors playing Kao & Dr Petch, that would be way more compelling. Kao & Phu have potential, though.
What a breath of fresh air after sh*t like 'My Day'. There's nothing like Thai BL. You can complain about the…
My Day is a steaming mess, but Gameboys & Hello Stranger were way better than Thai BLs IMO - they at least tried something new and cast good actors in the main roles. I'm only sludging through Oxygen out of loyalty - I have to take breaks every five minutes because it's so tedious. Watching Solo & Gui is about as interesting as watching carboard boxes get soggy in the rain. Actually, the latter might be more engaging.
Okay, I adore Solo and Gui but I am actually shipping Phu/Kao hard. I'm not sure what it is about them. But they…
It's because unlike Solo and Gui, the actor playing Kao can actually act and has charm. Too early to tell about Phu, but there have been some nice subtleties in his performance. Solo & Gui are just boring and passionless.
How do any of you like this series? It's really boring and the main couple is so uncharismatic and unappealing! Why didn't they cast the guys playing Kao and Dr. Petch in the main roles? They are 100 times more interesting and way better actors. Also, there is no plot! And I get the schtick is that Solo has lost his smile, but it's fu#$ing creepy. Gui looked like he was afraid of being murdered when Solo cornered him in the flower shop.
Sorry I don't understand. Is there a problem with the actors ? Why are you talking about bullying ? I ask because…
How could you miss the bullying? The jocks were terrible, and the episode ended with one of them shoving JJ so hard he fell into a table and knocked the projector off.
Hmm first ep a little slow for me and I think Win needs to loosen up a bit, but we’ll see how it goes. It gives…
A LITTLE slow? I couldn't watch more than 5 minutes at a time without falling into a coma. Only my hatred for all the characters helped keep awake for even that long. (I do like JJ, but how can you not?) This show is just plain terrible.
I couldn’t agree with you more. This show is terrible. Do they green light and make every BL now in Thailand?…
Gameboys (acting, attitude, & social consciousness), Hello Stranger (writing - way, way better than a Thai BL. Actually the acting too), and judging by the first 2 eps, Quaransomething. Even the hot mess My Day is at least not about engineering students or people in pink shirts and white socks with black shoes. GB and HS are equal to or better than the best Thai BLs in production quality - cinematography & editing on both were amazing. Thai BL is in a fatal rut at this point. They need to throw out all the fanfic authors who churning out this dreck and get some real writers.
i'm too old for this show lmao - the story just seems so juvenile and the acting is so goddamn awkward
The acting isn't much worse than other Thai BLs, but we've seen every element of this show in every other Thai BL and it's so old and tiresome that it's harder to excuse the juvenile story and awkward acting. Or at least that's my theory. :)
This show is terrible - I'm struggling to get through the episode. It's not poorly acted, directed, filmed, or anything else, it's just such a tired pile of BL cliches that it's nearly unwatchable. So far there's been no accidental kiss, but I still have 10 minutes to go. Can everyone in the Thai production industry be forced to watch Philipine BLs and learn that you can have stories that are not all exactly the same? Good God. All we need is for one of the OTP to have an evil girlfriend and we've checked all the boxes.
Whether it’s 1 or 2 or more episodes, if they start as enemies and end up lovers, it’s still considered “enemies…
Agreed! I will certainy go back to Gameboys later and watch it through. Sometimes when you start to feel negative about something you enter a loop - for me I was put off by the COVID casualty which I found manipulative and contrary to how COVID is commonly spread (my job is related to this so it's a sore point). I think the social consciousness of the series has more importance in your ratings than mine (and GB does get an A+. HS doesn't really touch on social issues, but it at least avoids any social sins).
I couldn't agree more with you more! I only watched until the end because of how popular it is, but it truly didn't…
I'll try again at some later date and see if I appreciate it more - I watched it to where I did for the same reason you did - it's so popular that I thought I must be missing something, or that something is wrong with me, but I don't think so. The show does have an excellent social consciousness, which is often woefully lacking in BL, and that might be an element in people's reaction. There are no toxic female characters, no lack of consent issues, realistic portrayal of class issues, etc. But that's not why I watch BL - I need to be engaged by the story and characters, and I wasn't here.

GB is also enemies to lovers, and sustained it longer. That's actually one of the things I found tiring, Just when I thought they were over Gav being pouty and calling Cai baybeeee! and Cai responding by insulting him, they reverted to doing that, I imagine because they stretched the show past it's original planned run of episodes and had to fill the time - that's never a good idea. It would have been better to leave it at 8 and write a sequel. I'm not really looking forward to the HS movie unless they had always planned on it as I'm afraid it will just be fanservice and exploit the success of the series for $.
The reason you're only getting hate from HS fans is because you like GB better - I'm getting it from GB fans because I like HS better. That's what I'm not understanding. Who cares if you or I like one or the other better? It doesn't invalidate their preference, and to me seems an unhealthy level of engagement with a work of fiction, much like when people insist the actors are actually in a relationship. I did read your review and I appreciate it - that's why I asked this question of you, because you don't seem biased.
