I can see why Cheng Xiao is getting so much buzz in China for her role in this. Not only does she look beautiful, but her portrayal of Yunxi is multilayered and sophisticated! Even many of her lines from the play have trended on Weibo.

Actually, Light of Dawn is extremely good, IMO. It holds a higher rating on Weibo than Glory, and its opening Douban score was 7.7 which very good. I think it helps that it didn’t feature an idol ML or FL. Having an idol as a lead seems to automatically trigger negative reviews from rival fan bases. 🙄

Glory is good too, but LoD has a plot that is very original and timely, and it features outstanding performances from every single cast member. I hope it gets recognized during awards season.

She is receiving so much ❤️❤️❤️on Weibo for her acting! She is one of the few Chinese 99 Flowers to portray to very different roles within a very short timeframe. Long Yun is so different from Yunxi in Glory, yet her portrayal of both is complex and compelling. And there are tens of thousands of comments on Weibo and Douyin stating that same thing.

She has trended higher than many of her female costars for buzz. Her lines from the first few episodes of Glory became catch phrases for the show. Her CP chemistry in Light of Dawn was also highly praised and has recached 1M loves despite Light of Dawn having a small budget and little publicity. I believe she has also collected >1B mentions and views since the beginning of the year.

She is finally getting the recognition she has worked so hard for. I don’t know if this will lead to larger roles for her because she does not have the legacy wealth and connections of many of her colleagues, but she is definitely making it hard to justify why she shouldn’t win more top roles.

Thank God, she didn’t give us odd, over the top facial expressions! Her expressions here were perfect. When she was supposed to be scared, she looked scared. When her heart was breaking, she looked sad and heartbroken. I know that there are a lot of C-dramas where the actresses, but I don’t find that compelling. Cheng Xiao’s performance here was on par with the top actresses in the world: East or West

Now, there are claims that an agency’s Director, Wu Xiaochen, has “…travelled to accept the termination of the contract.” Is this person from her agency? Was it the contract of one of the shows she was filming until she became ill that was cancelled? Or do they mean that her contract with her agency that was terminated?

If it’s the latter, then that’s outrageous and ridiculous. I’m not a fan of hers, but no one should be cancelled for ill health no matter what the cause is! May she make a speedy recovery

She may have had less than 60-minutes of screen time, but she did so much with that role. IMO, the quality of the screen time sometimes matters more than the amount. In spite of some negative things that happened on the set, I’m thankful that GJM gave her this role and opportunity. It sounds like he handpicked her for it.

If you’re looking for a Wuxia and fantasy script that’s original and had amazing acting and wudan skills, then watch Fangs of Fortune. Although I appreciate the effort it takes to run a site like MDL, the admins are biased against that show’s director. I don’t know the man, and I’m not interested in his lifestyle. All I know is that FoF is one of the most visually beautiful, intelligently plotted, unexpected, and best acted dramas Chine has ever produced! Unlike so many of the Cdramas in the Wuxia genre, this one features choreography where the actors delivered their own stunts allowing one to actually believe the action on screen.

It took me awhile to process my feelings and what happened in the last episodes. I LOVE this show. It’s original, witty, visually beautiful, and incredibly well acted. It’s an incredibly well acted, well presented storyline. This is especially true when one considers given that PSJ had less than 60 minutes screen time in the entire production. I think they could easily make an adventure series featuring the Pei siblings.

I’ve also been wondering what this is. After some searching, it appears to be an invitation only acting camp hosted by CCTV. One of the people in the 2024 class was nominated by Jackie Chan so industry shakers and movers appear to participate in it. CX was nominated by Chen Zhixi, the first woman and current CEO of Wanda Films. CX was nominated for her work on “Breakup List” which something that I don’t think has debuted yet.

What I really appreciate is what she does with her screen time. GJM not only gave her the opportunity to show off impressive Wudan skills, but her role requires acting skills that portray emotional depth. And she, by all meaningful accounts, she has nailed it! She doesn’t have the financial resources to buy the bots and sock puppets used by many of her peers to bolster their ‘support’ so you don’t hear as much as it, but people ARE talking.
