ML finds out i think during the first remote mission about 20% into the novel as she gets injured. but the only 2 ppl who knew then (ML and his bodyguard) kept it secret for some comedic effect - especially the garrison commander and XJ's 2nd bodyguard (not in cast list so likely not in the drama) who thought XJ and HY are a gay couple. the garrison commander even imagine an entire headcanon where HY chased after XJ from the capital to Yezhou due to an earlier disagreement

Shen Muxue pined for ML to the point she was serving in the army as a physician to get close and spend time with him. After finding out FL is a female, became super jealous and had a role in one of the big reveals. faded into the background after that. This character is not in the drama but the back story has been merged with Song Tao Tao.
Song Tao Tao ran away from home to avoid marrying Cheng Li Su, got into trouble but was saved by FL in male disguise and became smitten. This is a comedic turn in the novel as CLS also left the capital to avoid marrying STT by joining ML's army as an observer (aka freeloader) and considers FL as his best bro. So for a time was encouraging STT to pursue HY with some comedic effect. The drama has merged CLS with another character so not sure if they will follow the novel given the character introduction writeup.
In the novel ML gets jealous easily and loses composure easily over matters related to FL - so there are those type of misunderstandings - usually handled within the same chapter with some coaxing from FL. And ML suspected FL was a spy for a period of time whle FL habitually does things against his wishes - normal relationship pains :P

He Yan's brother He Yun Sheng - it is understandable as there was no explicit courtship in the novel - even some parts of their courtship is only mentioned in the epilogue and extra chapters. In the novel proper - you only read a few paragraphs about Song Taotao's one-sided crush on him post-"He Yan is a a girl"-heartbreak as she fades into the background during the final third of the novel

In the novel alot of the romance related dialogue were unspoken internal monologues which does not translate to drama well.
That said, having seen and read both, i am of the opinion that "Reborn" is describing the FL and her family cutting ties from the toxic patriach and embracing + remembering openly Beiyu. The romance is meant to be a side dish / dessert.. so the drama tag misled somewhat.
