to me it is the "when the phone rings" syndrome - sudden need to squeeze in elements from the novel at the last arc when the previous set ups were not done.

maybe my memory is off but I don't think he knew she was "SA-ed in her own flat" - just that she was running away from strangers - who he later determined had ill intentions towards her (end of ep2). I don't recall her actually telling him why she wants to move out
