Hello everyone, as I told you before, the first drama I watched of baobei was The Long Ballad, but do you know how I got to know about the drama? That time there was this girl who came to thailand for vacation and was watching it in a cafe. I kind of saw her watching something that looked interesting to me (basically it was hottie Ashile Sun, yes WL in disguise). She told me the name and even gave me a little synopsis about the drama. She was in Thailand for a week and we kind of got familiar, since I even invited her to my one bedroom apartment. Why I’m telling you all this is to let you know that the girl was genuinely nice. She told me she was a botanist and had worked for a few dramas in the art department, and one of the dramas she worked on was Sweet Dreams, baobei’s drama. And she knew baobei from there. She told me how nice and down to earth baobei actually is, and since she belongs to a minority group in china she’s very cautious about things (you might guess it if you’re politically aware about uyghurs). The girl told me baobei was the most hardworking, down to earth, kind, and generous actress she had ever seen. Everybody on set liked her and admired her. She was pretty inside out. One thing I vaguely remember is that she told me baobei has everything she’s the prettiest person to exist and pictures and videos don’t do justice to her beauty. She also has the prettiest personality and is hardworking. For acting, she said baobei was improving day by day, but since god gave her everything, she kind of flunked her luck. In one drama where she was the lead, the supporting actress used her influence to add more scenes for herself, so baobei’s screen time was cut. Baobei was criticized for her age, although many other actor–actress pairs with even bigger age gaps worked together, even when the male actor was an adult and chose the drama willingly. Baobei was criticized so much that people always wondered why it’s always her. She said baobei had the nicest personality, but people often criticized her for even breathing. Her competitors even spread trash rumors about baobei to ruin her reputation. Tbh, at that time I thought she was bluffing like why would such a popular person be unlucky? But these days the things happening made me believe that baobei indeed got less than she deserved. People criticize her for being pretty, hardworking, successful. When her health news was trending, people accused her of copying a certain actress or said it was just marketing tactics. They literally criticize and hate her for random things. Even here on MDL, they downvoted such a stunning drama for who knows what. Ever since LOTL released, there have been so many negative trends on Weibo against baobei.
I seriously started despising those actresses and their teams for using such cheap tactics against her. And here, in front of you all, I genuinely want to pray for baobei to always be happy, no matter what, and to become the luckiest girl to ever exist. I hope she gets all the good things she wants. Sorry, I’m just a bit emotional thinking about what she might be feeling seeing those negative trends about herself.
I don’t get low budget vibes but I don’t feel like they have put the funds to good use. The writing and directing…
Lol the scriptwriter is the novel writer herself, so everything is true to the novel the characters, the setup, the vibe, the atmosphere. They’ve created a genuinely faithful drama adaptation and followed even the tiniest details. If someone isn’t into this kind of plot, they might feel the pacing is slow or think the characters are flawed.
I had the same thought. I’m a Reba fan and yes she looks great here. But the make up/styling screams Reba rather…
NJL was totally dilraba coded, and the drama follows every detail from the novel. In PW, nini’s character was rough and sassy in a messy way, but in LOTL, NJL was described as exceptionally beautiful, and her whole vibe in the novel matched dilraba perfectly. That’s why the two stories are different and so are the characters.
Also, even though NJL was a hunter, she was a weak one. She wasn’t some never dying, always winning type of lead. She got injured many times, and YT saved her, which helped them build trust. Both the FL and ML had flaws, and neither of them were written as sigma-coded characters.
My biggest complaint about this drama so far is the makeup styling of the leads. Oh man, its godawful. The foundation…
Hi, just wanted to ask if you’ve read the novel. Because in the novel, NJL was exactly like this she used makeup, had a stylish vibe, and subtly loved to flaunt her beauty. And that’s why so many people imagined dilraba while reading about NJL; she was literally dilraba-coded. Also about her solo scenes, this is also accurate to the novel. NJL was beautiful and aloof. At least here the director made her smile a little, because in the novel she barely smiled.
This NJL is exactly how she was written, so a lot of readers are satisfied with her appearance and overall portrayal. The plot is thriller + romance, so obviously the leads need to look exceptionally pretty and handsome to match the novel’s vibe.
She may feel disconnected from the story right now because she isn’t fully involved in the chaos yet, but soon she’ll go into full NJL mode. And yes, she isn’t an alpha type character who never gets injured, stays powerful throughout, or always wins. NJL is a weaker hunter and has her own flaws. I suggest following the plot once at least 10–15 episodes are out, because things become much clearer by then.
I knew this was going to happen lol they aren't confident in their faves abilities but need to realise, Baba is…
True, I just got agitated by a certain troller on the LOTL mdl page too. I honestly hope their faves get twice the trouble they’re trying to create for baobei.
I like it when people like @Mephisto get scared once someone shows them how ugly they’re acting. @Mephisto, dumbass, you trolled every single comment of mine and now you’re hiding by blocking me. Literally the worst person you are, dear haha couldn’t digest the truth? Lol admit it you’re a hater and you’re only here to spread hate for the drama.
Also, someone please do me a favor and copy this whole thing and post it under that troller’s comment. I’m gonna show that dumbass how ugly he is.

See, I predicted it. They even downvoted LOTL on mdl. They’re going to try everything they can, but they still won’t admit their faves are trying to ride the hype here. I honestly don’t care about them, but I really hope Alice stops giving them any more engagement. They’re literally ragebaiting on Weibo and X already. This is actually so frustrating, lol.
Same tho I gave it 2 and a half eps. I'm disappointed as trailer looked exciting but nothing caught my attention…
There’s a fine line between sharing your opinion and trolling, so try not to cross it. Everyone’s welcome to express what they think and that’s fair but one should also be willing to respect and welcome what others think as well.
For me the plot and the direction and obviously the cinematography is just chef's kiss. I am not a fan of good…
My simple reply is just don’t watch if you don’t like it. Maybe other people enjoy this kind of setup. Also even male writers objectify and sometimes downgrade female characters all the time, and somehow that gets treated as normal but the moment there’s a strong fl, it suddenly becomes a problem? That double standard for sure.
Just curious if you read Wei Yu's works in their original Chinese? Or translation?
I read the translated version my chinese coworker shared with me since it was translated by someone who actually knew the language, it turned out really good and kept the original vibe something those MTL versions totally miss.
Ngl I feel like the pace is just right. Perfect amount of world building as to not bombard the audience while…
I also love the pacing. I like taking my time with each scene and building my own theories, and so far I’m genuinely enjoying the drama its rhythm, its characters, everything. PS I’ve already read the novel, so I know the whole story, but those tiny changes in the plot didn’t bother me at all. The story is still heading in the right direction.
