This is so funny and true. In my head I know 99% of men aren't like this. But in my heart I hope for some magical man to whisk me off my feet like my grandfather did for my grandmother. My granny had been seeing a man, but then when she started working at the same place as my grandfather...magic happened like in the kdramas, you could say. Long story short, he started to drive her home/to work then they started having lunch together. My granny wrote a Dear John letter to the other guy and chose my grandfather. They met in March and married in November and my dad was born the following December! They were married for almost 68 years before he passed a few years ago. So kdramas didn't ruin me, they've just further instilled my own validation to have what I know can be true.
Kang Tae has better self-control than monks. He was drunk af with an absolutely scrumptious MY literally puckering…
He literally said he was suppressing himself. Like. You are a healthy young man, sir. You need to get some of that OUT. And you have a ready and willing Moon Young waiting for you. Y'all can have slam against the wall intense no holds barred fun times together. Maybe in my dreams. But if they even just do some passionate kissing on screen that's all I need. I will take anything and everything.
Gotta love that forehead down the cheek caressing. Oh my he fell asleep at her bedside after that, yessss. And Kang Tae saying 'I'm going to skip work today.' Yes boy, life a life for a day, do it do it!
And Kang Tae telling Sang Tae not to work too hard because he'll become sick and Sang Tae is unintentionally savage telling Kang Tae he whimpers like a dog in his sleep. Because he can't put his happy mask on for Sang Tae when he's unconscious! He was so embarrassed haha! Kang Tae is like "I'm not ill." And Sang Tae says "It's because your heart is aching. Your body is honest, When you're in physical pain, you cry. But the heart is a liar. It stays quiet even when it's hurting. Then when you're asleep you finally weep and whimper like a dog." Daaaaag Sang Tae you hit the nail on the head regarding Kang Tae AND Moon Young!
Oh baby Moon Young never cutting her hair because her mom said not to. And having the urge to cut it to be free of her and she can't do it, how upsetting. Truthfully she'd look good bald or how it is now or anything in-between. Moon Young about to smash the lamp on Mr. Lee's head I'm DEAD. G I R L. And then Kang Tae yelling at Mr. Lee and ALMOST letting him fall down the stairs before catching him. Also savage. I love it. And slapping his hand and kicking him out, I'm so done. ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ And he's so worried he tells her to the lock the door anyway even if the other people she be worried about her. Also Moon Young you can't become a junkie from fever reducers. Only opioids.
Fresh air on a skip day with your man, get it get it gurl.
MY: I like what you prescribed me. KT: Where do you want to go? MY: A motel. (and the little 12 rating on her mouth) KT: What do you want to eat? MY: You. (the 15 rating ha!) KT: Are you going to keep this up?
Aw when Jae Su asked Sang Tae JS: When someone says "later," what does it actually mean? ST: Sometime before you die. JS: What? Before you die?
Jae Su is such a good friend. He needed a friend not another brother. He's such a cutie.
And Kang Tae apologized for calling her an empty can. Maybe you're a thug instead. And the little laugh. I LOVE IT. Moon Young straight up asking him if he has ever slept with a woman and the way he spit out his water. Kill me. Boy if you suppress yourself any further you'll be at the center of the earth. And Moon Young is curious to see what will happen if he doesn't suppress himself. When they're walking and he's like enjoy the scenery and she's like I'm tired carry me and pretends to throw his phone in the water. Bah! "So you should just focus on me." And she answers his phone and it's Joo Ri telling her "he took the day off to hang out with me. Bye." Yeah she knows how to make Joo Ri mad.
MY: You took me out on a date to help me cool off? KT: Who said this was a date? MY: What was this, then? Are you flirting with me? Or are you feeling it out? Are you just testing the waters? Or are you playing with me? Fine. Let's date. KT: "Get lost." MY: What? KT "Get lost." Do you know how many times you've said that to me? Even last night. And that day too. MY: So what? KT: But last night, it sounded like you were begging me not to leave. Last time, I ran way. But today, I thought I should stay with you. That's all it meant.
LIES. That is not all it meant and we know it you lying liar who lies.
There. Joo Ri you can have Mr. Lee. That's settled. She even punched him. It's even more settled.
MY: I had a nightmare last night. My nightmares are always about my mom. And when I wake up from the dream, I always feel like shit. But today, I don't feel so shitty. And her little smiley face drawing. AND KANG TAE'S SMIRK. Yeah boy you're opening up to her, too.
Doctor KNOWS what he is doing with the whole pretending to want to set up his son with Moon Young and asking Kang Tae does Moon Young have a boyfriend. It's going to even more instill Kang Tae's subconscious pull towards Moon Young because he does want her. I hope.
Ooooh how interesting. So Moon Young's mom disappears and is only presumed dead after 5 years. So we don't know! And Kang Tae "But what if she doesn't miss her? What if she fears her?"
And the lady who lost her daughter with her guilt about saying she didn't need a daughter who gave her a gift she thought she wasn't worthy of. How sad! And Kang Tae only having memories of being a thing. And asking Jae Su "Do you think my mom also feels sorry for how she treated me? Do you think she regrets it?" And he replies "Is that what you want?" And Kang Tae starts crying and just says yes...no. Oh baby boy you're so broken. And Jae Su yelling out and defending Kang Tae against his mom. She has a slight point in how hard it was as a mother BUT I still don't agree. Kang Tae had to sort of raise himself with how his mom put so much burden on him so young to help with Sang Tae. He never got to be a kid, for the most part.
Kang Tae and the drunk texting. Boy same. I hate when I'm trying to type a word and I can't get it right. Honestly I do it sober, too. But also he texted WAIT. And his little smiles. AND SHE WAITED ON THE STAIRS.
KT: So I walked all the way here, and I'm almost sober now. MY: Then let's drink some more. KT: No, forget it. This is just the right amount of tipsiness. MY: I want to drink. KT: No, you can't. You never do anything in moderation. If both of us end up getting drunk, it will be bad. MY: Why? Are you scared I might come onto you? MT: *flicks her forehead* Stop acting up. MY: Did you just hit me? KY: You hurt me with a knife. MY: You have good comebacks when you're drunk. KT: *laughs drunkenly* MY: I want to pull out your safety pin. KT: Close your eyes. MY: Why? KT: Just close your eyes. MY: You're so cliché. *waits for kiss* KT: Here. Open your eyes. MY: What is this piece of crap? KT: It's a nightmare catcher. If you sleep with this in your hand, it collects your nightmares in its basket and eats it up overnight. Then you'll be able to sleep comfortably. MY: How childish. KT: I brought it from home today. It used to be my brother's. MY: What? It's used? KT: I made it myself. MY: *clears throat* If it's handmade, I guess it's worth it. KT: This guy's name is Mang Tae. MY: Don't tell me you named it Mang Tae because you're Kang Tae, and your brother is Sang Tae. KT: The three of us are brothers. MY: Unbelievable. KT: To be honest, my brother also has nightmares just like you. He's been having nightmares ever since our mom passed away. My brother felt tormented, but there was nothing I could do. All I could do was make him this silly doll. MY: Well, it's kind of cute now that I take a close look at it. KT: Do you want it? MY: Yes, I want it.
Ok I can't believe I transcribed that whole scene, but I had to. I loved it all. And Sang Tae reminding Kang Tae that it was his idea to eat the spicy meal he thought his hyung loved. And actually inviting back under the umbrella. HIS TEARS!!!!! Break my heart. His memories are a little skewed and wrong, His mom did turn back and give him love and apologize. Gah, this makes me feel better. He misses his mom. ㅠㅡㅠ Moon Young cuddling up with the little nightmare doll and a smile on her face. :)
I love how the doc just talked about having bad legs but the minute he sees Moon Young takes off running. Ha! Moon Young taking the patient's shawl, though. I mean it does seem harsh BUT at the same time the patient was holding onto it and without it the burden is finally gone. So it's for the best.
Once upon a time, there lived a dog that was very good at hiding his emotions. The dog was tied beneath a shade tree. He always wagged his tail and acted cute. So he got the name, "The Cheerful Dog," because he was as cheerful as springtime. The dog always had lots of fun with the village kids during the day. But every night, he'd moan and whine when no one was around. That's because he wanted to cut off the leash and freely run around out in the spring field. However, he couldn't. And that's why he cried every night. Every single night. One day, a voice inside him asked the Cheerful Dog 'Hey, why don't you just cut off the leash and run away?' And this is what the Cheerful dog said..." "I've been tied up for way too long. So I forgot how to cut myself free."
And the little head pat and you did well. She didn't know she set the patient free, even unintentionally. And that exchange with her father. She doesn't want to be her mom. And she cuts her hair! Yay! Growth! "I cut off my leash." And their laughing together about it! How precious. Kang Tae trimming up he hair. Omg, I love it. 'How do I look?' 'You look pretty'. AND THEIR SMILES TO EACH OTHER!
I'm still very new to kdramas (seen around 50 different shows since starting in February) but I'd still say this is already in my top 3 so far and it's already vying for #1 overall thus far. There's just some magic about every aspect that hits every note just right for me. Very well put together article. Happy Okay Day!
It's only been one ep but I like Yeon Woo, the physical education teacher. He's cute and very understanding. But we've barely met some of the other guys or seen their interactions with Ae Jung.
MY: How long did you know? When did you figure out who I am? KT: I probably knew the first moment I looked into your eyes.
He thanks her but apologizes but says "I'm done with being someone who is needed by others." Oh, the hurt. She just needs to now be the one he needs. Damn did he really say "Because you saved my life that day, I've been living a f*cked up life." Oh wow. Moon Young, girl you can't say I'll kill you if you leave. She's always getting him so riled up, though. And making Sang Tae get so worked up he hits his brother and says over and over "I belong to myself. You don't own me!" So true. I wish this would be the way for Kang Tae to realize Sang Tae can be much more independent than he thinks. Obviously she has ulterior motives but this is the jumping off point for everyone. Moon Young can learn to interact better with people, Kang Tae can live a life that isn't dependent on only being there for Sang Tae and Sang Tae can actually be much more independent. And we see that Sang Tae learned that phrase from a defiant little Kang Tae. He got his red belt and was so excited and his mom whips his butt? So upsetting! We all know when we wish someone dead in the heat of the moment we don't mean it. Because now they're playing on the ice where Kang Tae falls in and he really hesitates on saving him but in the end he does and Moon Young saves him, even though she debates it at first. Ugh this is so well done!
And since Moon Young knows this she tells Sang Tae "Don't worry. He won't be able to abandon you." And when Kang Tae reads the contract you see it has things Sang Tae wanted. Like the RV and the thinking about Kang Tae not wanting to move. It is his own way of caring. And the ahjumma that said "I'd like to thank that person for giving Sang Tae such a great opportunity. Kang Tae. You should root for him. You took good care of him until now. Now it's time for you to let him do what he wants. You shouldn't stop people from doing what they want or liking someone. Plus, it's impossible." Yes! Yes! Yes!
I love how Sang Tae introduces himself. Saying "I have autism spectrum disorder. But I have no problem taking care of myself." And Moon Young is so confident about her safety pin, Kang Tae. And tada he indeed going to come and stay with them! I'm laughing at the ahjumma being like oh crap what I do. Well oh well, it's done now, wonderful lady.
Moon Young asking Kang Tae if she had a part in his decision making and he does his classic keep answering with a statement and avoiding answering the question. And she says she will respect Sang Tae.
MY: Should I write a blood contract? KT: You said promises are like trash. MY: I'll keep my word. Because it's a promise I made to you.
Jae Su being such a good friend. Saying do you have a death wish, I warned you not to go near her. Look, Jae Su. Moon Young might as well be gravity incarnate and Kang Tae will succumb to gravity. Joo Ri throwing a fit, my goodness she is something else.
Kang Tae would love to travel because it means freedom and he's never had that. And going anywhere without a set destination is probably one of the most freeing things that you can do. Um, can we also talk about how casually he talks to Moon Young. I caught it some, he's not using honorifics. I think Joo Ri had a tantrum about it last episode, but I like being able to tell. (아니 instead of 아니요, for instance.)
I like the doctor's use of the quote "Only those who have suffered truly understand suffering."
Once upon a time, a count with a blue beard lived alone in a huge castle. He was very wealthy, but everyone avoided him out of fear because of his blue beard. But one day, a poor woman came to the castle and said that she wanted to be his bride. Brimming with joy, Bluebeard brought out all the jewels and treasures from each room and gave them to his wife as a gift. However, there was an exception. The room in the basement. He warned her to never go into that room. But his curious wide eventually opening the secret door without telling her husband. Do you know what was in that room? Corpses of women were displayed on the walls. They were the wives of Bluebeard who had ignored his warning were displayed on the walls. They were the wives of Bluebeard who had ignored his warning and opened that door. That's how they all ended up.
ST: Is being different something to be afraid of? KT: I guess so. ST: Do you have to live alone in a castle when you're different? KT: No. He will eventually find his true love who isn't afraid of his blue beard and tells him that it's okay to be different. Someone who understands him for who he is.
Ok just replace he with she and he's basically talking about Moon Young and him.
Joo Ri is unstable. The scene in the car with her mom, yikes. Girl, get a grip.
Oh. My. God. Kang Tae being domestic and cooking. Why is this so attractive to me. Moon Young just looks stunned.
The patient who almost made her believe she was her mom really messed her up. But for real when the manager was telling Kang Tae to leave but he just said "I don't want to." Oh yeah. "I won't move aside." YES.
Moon Young is so out of it from that patient and seeing her recount how her mom said she was a good girl if she listened to her mom all that time. That's nearly brainwashing, to me. "I've warned you that I will also kill the prince who comes to save you." Um methinks the mom got broke by the dad who in turn breaks Moon Young. Such a vicious cycles of pain.
But Kang Tae hears her crying from her night terror and goes to her. And she screams. Run, get lost, and he's holding and her and says he won't leave. Oh yes.
Both and neither. I mean we type it out in the Romanized alphabet but the ㄱ letter in 강 태 (Kang Tae or Gang…
The alphabet which is called Hangul (한글) is not hard. I've learned that, but knowing what they mean is a whole different story. I've been learning it on the side lately, it's a beautiful language. I really only know a few words and the alphabet right now.
Okay real question: it's KANG-TAE or GANG-TAE??? LMAO
Both and neither. I mean we type it out in the Romanized alphabet but the ㄱ letter in 강 태 (Kang Tae or Gang Tae) is explained as far as I know it in between G and K.
Are they being funny? The Bates Motel? Hahaha. And he's all upset that she would have walked all night in the rain and she's all why you mad bro? "Were you worried about me? Are you upset? Does your heart ache? Do you like me? I'm just asking, because I really have no clue." And the motel guy just eating his popcorn as Kang Tae gets backed against the wall, he's watching them like a drama omg.
KT: What does my face tell you? MY: You're handsome. KT: No, my facial expression. MY: You look obnoxious.
He wants to help her but she's so resistant. Girl, you like it when you felt his warmth, quit saying it's all about hunger.
Kang Tae being so good with Sang Tae and getting him to stop thinking Kang Tae was still mad at him. It's sweet but then Kang Tae saying he got what he deserved with letting Sang Tae hit him and scold him, boy you are a masochist, I think sometimes.
"You look scrumptious from behind. I mean, you look stunning, not "scrumptious". Ha! And she calls for Sang Tae oppa. And he runs out hot. And Jae Su is like are you having hot flashes bwahaha. And she opens the window instead of the door. Comparing themselves to Romeo and Juliet but saying they would've been fine if they both drank the sleeping potion. "So let's fall asleep together, side by side."
This whole exchange! MY: Your lies carry a sense of sincerity. It makes me want to believe them. KT: My brother Sang Tae is always looking at my face. My eyes, the shape of my brows, the corner of my mouth, and every wrinkle on my face. He studies my face to figure out my mood. Even when I'm in unbearable pain and extremely devastated my brother believes that I'm happy if I force myself to smile. All I care about is what my brother thinks. It's fine even if it's fake. Putting on a smile isn't hard to do. MY: Then smile at me. You said it's not hard to do. Smile. KT: Just sleep, It's getting late. MY: Were you like this as a boy? I saw your photo. Did you put on a fake smile even when you were little? KT: I don't know. I don't remember. MY: Then what about that woman? The woman you liked. You said my eyes reminded you of her. Do you still think about her? Do you miss her? KT: No. I want to forget her. MY: She must've been a total bitch. KT: No, quite the contrary. I was a jerk to her. She saved my life, but I ran. Like a coward. And I've been running away since then. MY: Then why did you pick me up earlier? You ran to me instead of running away. KT: Right, I'm regretting it now. MY: But I have to say, I was quite smitten.
And her rolling over to hold him and he up and drags her to other side of the room, haha I can't.
"It's funny how people who should be wearing a patient gown aren't wearing one." Not really a throwaway line!
Ok but really Joo Ri slapping Moon Young first, I mean what did you expect Moon Young to do? Take it? You know her, too. I mean girl's throwing a fit because you knew KT longer? That doesn't mean anything? Yes Moon Young isn't very healthy about how she interacts with Kang Tae BUT he's drawn to her nonetheless. And he's just polite with Joo Ri. he ain't ever gonna magically fall for you if he hasn't thus far. He's only known Moon Young for a hot minute and look at how entwined they are.
With Jae Su he's asking a question in response to a question. He never answers Jae Su's questions. Hmmmmm. Don't get involved? We're crossed that bridge, it's on the horizon, now.
KT: I'm growing forgetful these days. JS: Forgetful about what? KT: Everything. My scars. The butterflies. Even Sang Tae. I sometimes just forget about them all. So you should remind me like this from time to time and help me come to my senses.
Also Joo Ri's confession and him being straight up with her and saying don't waste your emotions on me. Why do I get the feeling he won't be able to keep up with her request of staying at her house? Oh, look! The next scene. Moon Young giving Sang Tae a contract to stay with her because she knows how much Sang Tae likes her. Ha uh-oh, how did I already know it. And Kang Tae will have to stay with them.
And you're straight up telling me he knows about her house because he's been there. And said "That day when you saved me, and I ran away from you." Hoooo boy. Oh man. Yes.
A long time ago, deep inside the forest, there lived a little girl in a cursed castle. The little girl's mother always told her daughter that she's too special to live among everyone else outside the castle. The mother told her daughter that she must live inside the castle. However, the little girl felt like she was imprisoned. So she prayed to the moon every day. "Please, send me a handsome prince who can save me from here." "Will he come today? Will he come tomorrow?" The little girl waited every day for her prince to show up.
As kids she looked so happy to see him and then told Kang Tae to get lost but only after it looked like her mother stopped her and made her act otherwise. And Kang Tae is the prince who will save her from the cursed castle now? Yes, please. I want their messy history to get un-messy. It's really sad because she did like him and he liked her as kids, it seems. And because of her pushing him away they both are so messed up now!
Thank you for writing such a good article. I was one that really enjoyed the show, but to me the key things that worked were the cinematography, the OST (I liked Gravity, Orbit, My Love, Please Don't Cry...most of them, really! much more than any other drama I've watched) and I really genuinely enjoyed not just the romance but Young and Eun Sup, Shin Jae's story, Lady Noh, etc. I think the only weak part was the drop off of Goo Seo Ryung's story towards the end, she was reduced a lot and it felt like her story got truncated to make room for everything else and I would have loved to see her not be relegated to the status she got at the end. I still gave it an 8/10! Would rewatch again.
This started off really strong but by the end I cared more about Tae Wan being happy because Jin Sung did him SO DIRTY. I think he did sort of get a bittersweet ending in really accepting he was gay and telling his father. And I adored the (third?) lead couple development in Sung Eun and Jae Soo way more than I did for Jin Sung and Ah Jin. I mean the final episode was just underwhelming, really. At least this was 12 episodes. I can't imagine how dragged out it would have been at 16.
I've still only seen in him in WWWSK but I was already smitten with him from that one show, I want to watch the rest of his works. Also, he's a fantastic kisser. I wish more dramas had kissing like the way he does. Or at least how he did in WWWSK.
Girl going around introducing him as her safety pin hehe. We love to see it.
KD: My mom doesn't hate me. She loves me like crazy. KT: How do you know? KD: You can tell when you're the one getting hit. For some reason, when someone hits you with affection it strangely...doesn't make you feel upset.
Oh man that must hurt deep to hear the reason your mom had you was so you could literally be you brother's keeper.
MY: When it looks like you want to run away, I'll run away with you right there and then.
KT: I don't like it when spring comes. Because that's when I need to leave again.
MY: You're more like a kid than I am. KT: Why am I like a kid? MY: Because I can see that you want to be loved.
Her shouting I love you over and over, I think it's more to get a reaction out of him. She's obsessed with him but she doesn't love him. Yet, anyway. And the parallels when Sang Tae wants the little dinosaur set and Kang Tae recalls how Moon Young said she wants him. She can't help it. But you know when he told her she was loud but empty inside and "you won't understand me until the day you die". I mean maybe not but I think you can learn to accommodate and compromise with someone. No two people can ever truly understand one another. We all have our own perception of reality and the world. He's really trying to push her away, and sort of using Sang Tae as an excuse. She is inserting herself in his life but well if this is the time that could be used for someone to understand her or for her to understand herself I hope that happens. It hurts that Sang Tae got so upset when Kang Tae raised his voice. Boy is a geyser waiting to blow. I mean you can only hold things in for so long. And we get that near the end, he's bubbling up now trying so hard. When he read the zombie kid book, dang that hit home. Like Moon Young's stories are so raw and real. Kang Tae said she was empty but she's full of the truth in her books. Oh myyyyyy at the end in the rain and he goes to her. Oh yeah that's the stuff we like to see.
KT: Do you really believe that? MY: What? KT: That we'll be fine once we accept really. MY: Yes. "This is who I am, and you are who you are." We just need to accept that. KT: So what if we're ok with it when the entire world doesn't think that way?
So this exchange I really liked. Kang Tae is so hesitant and questioning and Moon Young is like we are who we are and we can't make the world like us so why bother. And that may be why he perhaps is starting to have a change of heart by the end of the episode "Should I just have fun with you? Should I do that?". He doesn't want her to be right in calling him a hypocrite. She's going to make him finally accept reality. At least that's what I hope.
When she touched his bare chest over and over and actually said "wow". Girl, same. And after her nightmare she did the butterfly calming pat thing he taught her she had scoffed at before. She literally told him to his face she was horny and said do you want to sleep with me, omfg. I love her. I know some people are put off by her mentality but that is who she is! And Sang Tae wanting to make money to buy the RV so they could have a home but run from the butterflies. And Kang Tae saying all he needed was him, not anything else. That was sweet. The whole car scene and at the end "Should I just have fun with you?" Yes, boo. Yes. I think this was the funnier ep, tomorrow's ep will be a lot more melo.
I saw a few weeks ago he had reportedly done the testing before enlisting so I knew it was coming. Better for him to do it now, he'll be back by early 2022, hopefully with many wonderful main lead role offers waiting for him. 화이팅!
(and the little 12 rating on her mouth)
KT: What do you want to eat?
MY: You. (the 15 rating ha!)
KT: Are you going to keep this up?
Aw when Jae Su asked Sang Tae
JS: When someone says "later," what does it actually mean?
Fine. Let's date.
KT: "Get lost."
MY: What?
KT "Get lost." Do you know how many times you've said that to me? Even last night. And that day too.
MY: So what?
KT: But last night, it sounded like you were begging me not to leave. Last time, I ran way. But today, I thought I should stay with you. That's all it meant.
LIES. That is not all it meant and we know it you lying liar who lies.

KT: *laughs drunkenly*
MY: I want to pull out your safety pin.
KT: Close your eyes.
MY: Why?
KT: Just close your eyes.
MY: You're so cliché. *waits for kiss*
KT: Here.
Oh yes.
SO READY FOR THE NEXT EPISODE ALREADY.
"It's funny how people who should be wearing a patient gown aren't wearing one."
Not really a throwaway line!
