I couldn't even make it to the end of ep.02, the lame desperation at the wedding was such a turn-off. I'm dropping this. The heroine is just too... well, let's say I cannot relate to her at all.
Oh well, at least Fujioka Dean is on my radar now. I look forward to his next romantic role, hopefully with a better heroine this time.
I'm fine with Yamazaki Kento in general, but I find it strange that he's suddenly cast in every other shoujo manga adaptation. It reminds me of how in the early-to-mid 2000s it seemed Matsuyama Kenichi was the default casting for every manga-to-movie adaptation.
I understand the desire to work, but if I were an actor I'd want a little more variety in the type of roles (see: Suda Masaki). I always wonder if their agencies signed some sort of deal with some production company and they don't have a choice in the matter.
I hate a lot of the tropes in this ("oh no I'm almost 30 and not married whatever will I do") but I like the male lead, his former-Yankee friends, and the fact that his ex-girlfriend actually befriends our heroine (this was a really welcome alternative to making the ex into a jealous rival character). So I think I'll give it another ep or 2 and see if the "marriage panic"-type garbage falls off a little.
I also didn't like Reply 1997. I didn't really hate it but I didn't L-O-V-E it like so many others seemed to. I also didn't see it 'til like last year so maybe I'd absorbed too much hype by then and expected too much.
Another big one is City Hunter, which I thought was incredibly boring. Great action scenes, Lee Min Ho looking fantastic, but the story between the stunts and the great hair put me to sleep.
School 2013 also bored me to tears-- my friend and I only made it through with the help of alcohol and even then I think we talked about other, unrelated things over a good deal of the run time.
I also disliked Pride, which puts me at odds with 99% of Kimura Takura fans (I group I count myself in, btw).
Surprised to see no mention of PapaDoru (a.k.a. Papa wa Idol!). It's not the greatest drama but the fact that it's Ryo playing himself as a pop idol who secretly marries a single mom, and that it addresses the pressures of being an idol (no open dating, etc.), is pretty darn interesting. I almost couldn't believe it even got made, to be honest.
wait.. Best Japanese Supporting Actor: Yuki Furukawa ?? for real? O_o lol
He was in From 5 to 9 so I think a lot of people just voted for that in literally *every* category it showed up in. This is the only way I can explain him & Ishihara Satomi appearing here.
Ishihara Satomi as Best Actress... I guess title recognition does work.
Anyway, is there any possibility of seeing the runners-up? I feel once the big, popular shows (Ouroboros, From 5 to 9, and associated casts) get skimmed off there might be slightly more interesting & informative results.
how come Takuya and Lee Jae Joon are in the bromance category? they are a cannon couple! not a side ship, but…
I'm primarily a J-drama watcher at this point but all the "romance not bromance" comments about this couple from this drama makes me wanna check it out! I'd heard about it as it was airing of course, but I wasn't sure if they would actually be allowed to be a cannon couple or if it would end up being unrequited (or worse, brushed off as a joke) at the end. But your comments have piqued my interest!
This votes are a popularity contest, no way on earth some of the votes here deserve to be in 1st place, the best…
I'll second this. Or call it "Viewer's Choice" or whatever, but "Best" is kind of a joke, especially when people can vote even if they're only seen 1 Jdrama all year (and considering MDL is so K-centric, I'd wager this isn't that uncommon). Like, if you've only seen 1-2 shows what are you comparing to decide which is "Better/Best"? Just call it "Favorite" or "Most Name Recognition" or whatever, it'd be a more accurate title either way.
I find it strange that Kamiki (and not Ryo) was nominated for Samurai Sensei, when his acting was much more distinctive…
Suzuki Kyouka was one of my picks too. I really enjoyed Dakara Koya-- the theme of, "It's never too late to start over" really resonated with me, and I thought for sure it'd at least be one of the Best Drama options based on early nominations. :( I dig Anne as well, but Date didn't hold my attention so my other 2 votes went to Aragaki Yui & Kimura Fumino (though I would've switched the latter in a heartbeat had Maki Yoko been an option for Mondai no Aru Restaurant).

Ah, we voted the same (in the actor category)! At least Yamapi didn't make it in the running there, despite being in The One Jdrama A Lot of People Saw™. Apparently not even title recognition could win him that award, though it seems to be working for Ishihara Satomi (best actress?--- ahahahahaha).

I think the dramas are listed after actors' names more for recognition purposes (and what fits on that single line). And I don't know if you noticed-- I didn't until someone pointed it out-- but you can actually vote for your top 3 in that category (and some other categories as well). So you can vote for both Endo & Kamiki, plus a third!
As much as i loved kill me heal me it is too much that it is leading in every genre. Clearly people lose their…
I can't see the results in this poll (I didn't see enough K-dramas this year to make an informed choice, so I'm not voting here) but the exact same thing is happening in the J-drama poll. *sigh*
So it's obvious a lot of people who voted basically saw 3 or fewer dramas this year and just voted for the one they recognized in each category. I'm disappointed but not surprised.
Okay here's the part of the comments where I'm that b*tch who reminds you that maybe, MAYBE, if you've only seen like 1-3 J-dramas for this ENTIRE YEAR you should refrain from nominating anything because you're just voting for basically the ONLY THING you've seen, which is hardly an informed choice. Just sayin'. Mods, feel free to delete this if you think I'm out of line but I'm sooo tired of people making uninformed nominations/votes. There's a reason I didn't dip my toe in the K-drama nominations, y'know?
