Only started watching this recently because of the good reviews. And it’s really been a decent watch so far - interestingly different from your usual BLs. I enjoy the scenes with Yok and Dan the most, though I’m only at epi 8. These two have chemistry.
Cause all those other bl's u have watched are super realistic right, pls get a grip
Well, its one thing to make a show about boys falling in love without all the issues gay ppl face, but quite another to on top of that, hv these 4 guys come out of nowhere and suddenly all be super interested in Theo. Did someone cast a spell on those four? Otherwise, why would they suddenly all claim to be Enchante in order to get close to Theo, when the last I recall, two of them don’t even really like Theo and were hostile towards him. Nothing there to show why there was a change of heart.
And then there is the part about how Theo is gg to save a whole faculty from closing down by holding a small book fair. Right.
You’re not wrong to point out that BLs are in themselves, divorced from reality, but this show is taking it to a whole new level altogether. It isn’t even coherent.
How many of you would just say "f#$% Enchante" and go with Gawin?Although if Sun comes back from Paris it would…
I think you said it exactly - who cares about Enchante when everyone knows who he’s gonna end up with. But there’s only one problem - the entire show is based on finding out who this potential love of his life might be. But no one really cares enough!
Just finished the finále and I think overall, despite the plot holes, questionable developments, sometimes poorly executed scenes, the show was entertaining. It has it merits, such as a pretty natural style of storytelling that engages the viewer, though the many twists and turns can confuse. I expected these happy endings for those few characters who were trying to nail Giwi and they got just that. Poor Dan. I wish he didnt hv to die but for being that stupid, I guess he deserved it. It was just too unbelievably stupid for me. I mean, he was alr convinced she was just faking it and using him all along. She admitted just as much to him moments before he pointed the gun to her face. And all Giwi need do is to turn on the tears, say sorry she really loves him, and he believes her so easily? Thats so nonsense! Would anyone in real life really fall for that act?! I highly doubt so.
Another part that made me lol-ed a bit was Mim watching Giwi walking down the steps accompanied by policemen, on her ipad. Seriously, is Giwi’s life The Truman Show or something?! Else why would that be streamed for everyone’s viewing?! Nonsense much! Haha
Despite anything you can say about the plot and the toxicity of this drama, we all have to agree that Namtan is…
Namtan definitely carried this whole show on the strength of her acting. She did really, really well on this role! I thought Drake’s role was just a bit more than a cameo when it turned out to be more substantial. He shd receive front billing as well in the opening credits! I think he showed improvement as well in the final episode. If I were to nitpick, I think my only gripe is that there wasn’t much of a reaction when he first learnt of his wife’s death. I thought that could have been done much better. But elsewhere, his acting was decent.
Generally I’d agree with you about straight people bias in shows but considering this is under gmmtv, which…
Thank you for taking the time to reply. I agree with you about problematic mindsets seeping into most - or what you call het-first - productions and shows and its no different for GMMTV ones. In fact, a number of times when I watch BLs, they have their own issues such as not realistically showing queer people’s realities. I guess what I’m trying to say here is that hving watched shows from other countries whose society are much less accepting or even tolerant of LGBTQs, I already find a number of thai ones in general a step forward for not only featuring LGBTQ people but also not villifying them by default. And one can only hope that with time and more feedback, whatever shortcomings will be taken into account and refined as well. In the case of 55:15, I personally found Songpol’s ending realistic (yes even though its a show based on a “fantasy” premise, but realistic given that premise is what I’m saying) because he has always been in love with Mathee, who is straight and is thus unable to reciprocate his love in that way. It is realistic that Mathee did not suddenly also develop romantic feelings for Songpol and turn gay for him. Thank goodness it wasn’t written this way! Now as for Piphu who 15yo Songpol aka Paul came to slowly develop feelings for. I suppose a good ending would be for 15yo Paul and Piphu to end up together, live happily ever after. Yes that would hv been a nice ending, but the writers want to keep the basis of reversion constant - and that is that the characters will revert back to their old selves once they have fulfilled what they missed out on, settled unsettled business or “right” the “wrongs”. So if we accept that its the same for Songpol and that he can’t remain at 15yo, what is his reality with Piphu? When he became old Songpol again, Piphu doesn’t even know with utmost certainty that Songpol is Paul ie they are the same person. If he learnt about it, do you think he will automatically accept and embrace old Paul ie Songpol? If he does, I would argue that’s unrealistic. Maybe Piphu can eventually accept that Paul is now this 55yo uncle, but it’ll probably take a couple more episodes to resolve. Given that there isnt a long enough runway, I think this ending for Songpol is realistic. He accepts that whatever happened with Piphu when he was in his younger body, is best left as it were and was just not meant to be. That is sometimes the case with love in real life, no? Not meant to be. However, that said, with regards to Songpol’s ending, I don’t also feel that it’s all loss and for nothing. What changed was that he is now able to live more openly as a gay man. We see that when he declared that he can wear whatever he feels like, however “fancy”, which the old version of himself would hide away from. That itself is a positive development. So I’m not calling Songpol’s ending realistic just because it’s sad, but for all the above reasons.
Would also like to point out that I don’t necessarily think all the characters’ endings were realistic. Like Jaya’s, which you pointed out. I feel like it’s not very realistic that she suddenly sees a career revival and all these young people are now idolising her again (erm dream on?). The scenerio you put across - her finding a new purpose in life - would have been a more realistic conclusion. I would actually prefer that.
Your point abt the treatment of het couples and m/m couples, I completely agree. I’m with you on that. Lgbtq ppl are often very misunderstood when shows portray them and the treatment is usually less than ideal, or should I say, far from ideal. I can think of one show though where the m/m couple has a happy ending but the het couple didn’t work out. Theory of Love! But yes yes, I hear you, that’s rare and one show doesn’t overturn what generally is a pertinent issue with too many shows. Let’s hope with time, these things start to right themselves.
I’m just catching up on the show and on epi 6 now. I have always been of the opinion that Dew’s acting leaves much to be desired but that scene at the end where Ren told Gorya about how Mira and him were incompatible, omg….Dew’s acting was SO SO bad he reduced the emotional outpouring to a damn painful and cringeworthy watch! Man, I really hope he goes through crazy intensive acting bootcamp before he takes on another role again.
I wanted to like this series, and in some ways I do, but I can't get over how frustrating some of the elements…
Generally I’d agree with you about straight people bias in shows but considering this is under gmmtv, which produces 4-5 BLs every year where sad endings seem nonexistant, I’ll say maybe they aren’t deliberately targetting the gay character. I wished Paul/Songpol has a good ending as well but I feel what came to be was realistic considering his circumstances.
I feel the scenes where Mim pointed a gun at Giwi and thereafter when Giwi foiled her attempt and ran away to hide, were so poorly executed and unrealistically shot. It felt bit low energy and unnatural. The reactions were all too slow. Like when Giwi hid behind a car and then her phone suddenly rang loudly, she didnt even panic straightaway and try to end the call. The call was so loud and yet this Mim couldnt even locate where Giwi was hiding rightaway?! She still needed to look here and there for a bit! And the security officer was so retarded as well. Giwi alr called Mim out to him and he took quite a while to react! Lol The whole time, Giwi didn’t even look like she truly feared for her life. It felt like she thinks this is just playing afool or that the gun wasn’t real. The two women also ran at such a leisurely pace, it hardly felt threatening. I’m just surprised all these passed the cut.
There was the scene with Tin and Fight going to Mim's apartment after they got the call that someone had broken…
Ok I just rewatched epi 9 for this. So two guys broke in and Miriam came home when they were searching her apartment. They tried to catch her but she escaped. Then Tin came and Mim assured him the “valuable things” weren’t lost as she hid them well. Towards the end of the epi, Tin & Fight received a call from the security guard saying someone broke into Mim’s apartment again. They rushed over and then Tin noticed the bed area has been rummaged. He went to take a closer look and found 2 boxes - one w jewellery & money and the other was empty. The empty box was where the hard disk and notebook were stored. So these had been taken by the person who broke in this time. Tin reviewed the cctv footage and realised the burglar is none other than Mim. Thus it was presumably Mim who left with the hard disk and notebook. She snuck back to her apartment for it. So ya, where is the part where Giwi got the hard disk and notebook back?! I scanned through epis 10, 11 and 12 and could not find any follow up to the hard disk and notebook until Giwi said to Mim’s face in epi 13 that she has gotten hold of it back and destroyed it.
Ok I’m legit bit confused now after watching epi 13, only ‘cos I can’t recall some of the twists and turns from previous episodes anymore! Can someone please very briefly remind me about the hard disk with the recordings of Giwi & mum’s club? Giwi said she got ppl to steal it back and hv destroyed it. Did we see that unfold? The last I remember of the hard disk was Mim coming back to her apartment for it when she was in hiding, no? Were there any further updates on that which I may hv forgotten abt?
The actors resemble each other so much, it took me awhile to realize they switched characters halfway through…
Ok the same thing happened to me! They switched scenes and characters and there I was still thinking its the same guy and getting a lil confused, like why is he in France and then suddenly working in a photo business? 🤣
It does take more “studying” to be able to tell them apart at a glance. I second that suggestion to give one a different hairstyle perhaps! Haha
Probably unpopular opinion here, but does anyone else find this show being more about style than sense and substance? As in, I find alot of the developments simply written that way to push the story forward in a direction the producers wanted - nevermind logic -and its fine if you just accept whatever is presented without questioning, but if you do question, therein lies many problems. In my mind, I question the realism of many such developments all too often. Real people wouldn’t think and behave the way these characters do even in the reel situations they were in. But I guess its meant to be a fun show where you treat it like how you would something in the fantasy genre.
Overall I liked the ending and thought it was really realistic for the character’s circumstances. I’m a little…
I agree on how San’s ending feels rushed, though I dunno where else they’re gonna find the time to let it play out a bit more ‘cos I wldn’t take any time away from the other characters’ wrap. We shd’ve gotten to see San’s reaction when he finally changed back and then Prim’s reaction as well.
