I agree with you, and I have to admit that it's really nice seeing many people in the comments appreciating the same aspects of this drama.

I think what might make you feel that way is firstly the camera has a very good quality and secondly it's not made as theatrically as other period dramas. I also struggle to put that specific impression exactly into words, but I guess that we overall mean the same thing. I also notice other dramas focus a lot on the bright colors while this one is toned mostly into brown and dark shades somehow which makes it feel like a real world instead of a movie studio/movie set.

Also the characters aren't acting as typologically and are fleshed out enough. You don't expect someone to be solely good or solely bad.

Now this is the kind of authentical historical drama I've been talking about and I've been waiting for for ages....🤌

Realistic, nice production and camera, realistic characters with no quirky OST (actually excuse me but the OST here???😱👌😫) or comedy relief, beautiful costumes, authentic dialogues — is probably why many people might feel taken aback, as it's not made to turn off your brain and simply entertain. It's meant to bring out the real atmosphere of that time and those people lives, and the interactions aren't made just for the sake of it. They happen naturally and aren't forced more than needed.

There are many characters represented by older men who talk politics and schemes which takes up a lot of screentime so the story isn't built solely around the ML. There are plenty of male characters with different social status and authority who will probably take time to distinguish. And the period atmosphere with it's social issues is being built loyally and naturalistically (yes, it is the term that I mean). At last, this is the atmosphere that I lacked in any historical drama I tried watching. It has exactly the seriousness that I've been looking for.

However, yeah, I wanted JH to end up with YR's brother but I just don't know how to understand this girl sometimes and he seems too precious (I know, he's stiff, love him anyway 🤷🏻‍♀️) so maybe I'll just keep him to myself while I'm at it...😂 No really I felt like they'd understand each other, and I get and accept that JH is the more "selfish" or socially dull one out of the two friends and none of us is perfect either... but her actual age is what bothers me while behaving the way she's behaving – what you also hinted on yourself.

Why make the atmosphere so heavy when all you have to do is ✨️talk✨️, aren't you old enough to do that? I know she obviously comes from disfunctional environment and harbors significant trauma from her past. But still... I don't know, at some crucial moments of the friendship she just comes off as so dense. I can't hold it against her that she wants to put herself first and is used to thinking of herself and only then others given what she's been through (though she does put herself in uncomfortable places for YR and we do see that she clearly cares for her wellbeing). She cares, only it doesn't come to her as naturally and by default as it does to YR who is also used to taking care of her whole family while JH is used to taking care primarily of herself and her own survival, never having anyone depending on her that way before. In the past she must've focused on her own sake within toxic family while YR focused on nurturing her siblings, too. I'm glad we have flawed characters with different motivations that we can compare, and that they're just human who want to keep one tiny piece of happiness to themselves for once after always having to sacrifice.

Buuuuut.... I'm not even sure who I want with whom and what to expect 😂 I had so many predictions from ep1 and 2, then next ep "proved me wrong" only for ep4 to come and actually prove me right when I was already happy that I would actually be surprised 😂 And yes, I basically do want YR to end up with Daddy long legs alright... but the way he keeps calling her that Ugly nickname rubs me the wrong way. It's clear he's a very mature, considerate and reliable person that one might really appreciate to have by their side.. so why do this one lil' stupid thing? I keep thinking about that stupid theory saying "if the boy teases you a.k.a. says nasty stuff to you or throws rocks under your feet it actually means he likes you but doesn't know how to express it so he does that to gain your attention" cause that's just what it is, STUPID. I rather don't support such claims, maybe if you're 5 cause kids in fact don't know how to communicate better, but like how old is he, mid 20's or more? 😅 Hearing it from a man of his age and education is just disrespectful, not cute. Why would you show your affection for someone that you care about by shaming them? 🥲

JP at this point feels like a filler character, like a plot device that isn't even devicing that much, and I find each of the girls more suitable with someone other than him, more or less. I won't be angry if YR ends up with him, I've been rooting for her so much. But at the same time if you don't give him to her at least give her Daddy long legs (and make him call her something nicer). 😅

I can't see why this person went full on arrogant self-centered rampage... why is it so difficult for people to be nice and respectful instead of talking down to each other, especially when we're all here because we enjoy the same show, instead we throw rock at each other when we could have a nice conversation had one person just been respectful and considerate from the start. Instead they wage battle to prove something to themselves ON THE ONLINE SPACE where nobody acknowledges whatever achievement they think they've got by this self-approving turmoil.

Instead of engaging with fellow viewers they go on a mission to ruin their fun to make themselves feel ..... better??? It's not about how it all began with the spoiler tag anymore, it's about the phrasing, word choice, the way this person addresses people around her and then expects to be in the lead.

And just for comparison, there are users below who don't even write their comments in english and STILL hide their spoiler. They don't go around thinking ahh only few will understand their language anyway so why hide the comment when 80 % people here can't read it. No, they don't do that.

Why would the comments have the spoiler tag in the first place if the comment section were only designated for people who had already watched everything 😅 it's just one simple tap to turn it on, nothing difficult. 😇

I for example go to comments to check the atmosphere from the other viewers to get me more excited before watching or in other case to prepare myself if the latest eps were a letdown... I don't come here to get specific details. So please let's be respectful and nice to fellow fans 🙏😁 Otherwise I actually liked the way you expressed your excitement 😂

I don't get this... when Minsu ratted on Byeongmu and admitted that they had both assaulted Boyoung, the police rushed over to arrest him instantly. But when they saw a video of that doctor literally killing Daeum, they did nothing? Instead of hurrying to get him directly... they visited his wife 😅 and he had enough time to commit suicide.
