Yes I don't much like passive masochistic suffering kind of romance in a slow burn.

Mr Sunshine (zero skinship - kiss)
Empress Ki (almost no skinship)
Are outliers and slow burns too.
But a class apart in acting and story telling and how HOT the actors are!!!
Heart humping - flutters - squees galore.

So it depends HOW it's done and who are the actors and their skills.

In general the ML leaves me unimpressed.
Very dull in the episodes I watched.

So yes I'll plod maybe for a bit - just for the gorgeous cinematography and Bai Lu

Hmmm the recent comments on this thread are making me rethink.
Yeah when it launched I remember watching first episode and though it looked interesting wasn't able to appreciate or get into it.

Just recently as part of my foray into C-Dramas I watched
- Ever Night and
- Who Rules the World
- Rise of the Phoenixes ..
all Wuxia / Xanxia genres I learnt with its specific terminology and tropes ..

and THEN I watched TTEOTM (Till the End of the Moon) . Hypnotised by the layers and complexity of the drama's plot, setting, camerawork, action sequences, CGI editing and SUPERLATIVE acting!!

That got me curious to check out Alchemy of Souls ONCE again.

So this thread definitely had upped the intrigue factor for me now ;-p

I'll give it a second try and sit through at least 4 eps ;p

Slow burn is cool if there is some explosive skinship at some point - and not the silly "lip to lip touch and camera freeze annoyance" or just the peck on cheek / forehead.

Bai Lu does brilliantly in the kiss scenes I have seen till date.
She is not a passive person but active.. Very active (Only for Love.. She sets the screen on fire with Dylan Wang.. Even with LYX in TTEOTM).

They all had such superb actors with such screen presence and intoxicating chemistry with Bai Lu.

Am starting just now..and had come for a recce here 😂😅🤣

Also when I took a sneak peak - the EXTRAORDINARYLY beautiful cinematography (tones - textures - movement - set design - costumes) looked so lush like a film.. And of course Bai Lu steals the screen soon as she walks into it - the ML falls flat!!!!

No presence (voice - walk - looks - interaction with Bai Lu).. Which would open up our taste buds.. Greedy for the next bite.

So much so that I went back to check if THIS was the ML.. On MDL.
Sigh!!

Anyway I am straight from Bai Lu killing it on Only for You

So like you I will desperately cling to the show FOR HER.. And pray that the either the PLOT in enticing enough.. OR the actor puts out gripping acting skills.

It took me almost a month of paralysis before I could move on.. To try and enjoy something else.

Thankfully I discovered Bai Lu.

WHY does the Emperor Sleep with Xue Shi??

He had a FULL harem of concubines I know ..

But he didnt come across as a horny guy who has a glad eye for the women .. especially a woman he knows is his mom's pawn piece AND and daughter of his 'enemy' who might be a plant (he allowed her to sidle along during court discussions), he also knows she went after XW's girl (he was happy to see XW having a love interest and might settle down in marriage)

Did I miss something in the plot?

Was it because he wanted to control her father ? But he knew she had cut off all links to the family ..
