LOL

Wait lemme check your watchlist and ratings and see if I can predict your likes / dislikes and return with a comment ;-p

The fact that you seem to categorically not like palace intrigues / politics etc .. kind of disposes me to warn you that it might end up too heavy and complex and unrewarding for you.
It's anything but a 'plain ol' sweet romance'

However often a slickly and beautifully told 'palace intrigue / political' tale can pull in large audiences with the way the romance is woven into it ..

Oh noooooo nooooo .. DONT quit!!

Please bear with it ..

It's NOT "the romance stuff" if you are looking for a pure romance heavy thread as the MAIN structure of the show
BUT it IS "the romance stuff" if you enjoy romance as a fuel for the engine that is moving and affecting the character's decisions (political - personal - social) on their emotional longings for a romantic connection.

The weaving of the political intrigue, state craft, revenge tale is SO well done that it has heft and depth ..
The cinematography and OST lift it even higher .. The story is truly told in the scenes and actions and camerawork.

IML (in my lens) it's one of the top Dramas in period setting.

The show is specially leveraged for viewers who LOVE THEIR mains .. complex - dark - troubled and ambiguous .. when the sweet is sprinkled with sea salt and even a hint of bitters and chilli heat

Think TTEOTM - LLTG .. those who enjoyed those complex layered shows .. will adore SOKP.

TLB??

I enjoyed watching her SO much in LLTG & HL

I mean she has that 'standardised CDrama FL template features' that seem to really infest and become the downfall of many dramas, because they also get roles where they play infantile or blank faced .. large eyes .. pout lips .. YIKES .. heebeejeebs!!

HOWEVER Zhao Lu Si I found managed to fight off that 'facial feature challenge' by powerful acting that diverts you into seeing the sharp mind clicking behind the role she is essaying.

In LLTG she plays the 'cocky', wilful FL with a very strong character who defines her own path and who knows how to play the folks around her ..

In HL she manages to fit into the shy but spunky character in a deep crush over an older "ga" without making it into a cringey simpering role .. which is SO difficult to AVOID falling into when IT IS ALL ABOUT 'cringey first love' .. and she elevates it to a different level where you are swaying along with her and feeling her every emotion ..

Anyway that of course is how it played out for me.

Both dramas were a 10/10 almost for me .. and of course the kudos goes to the director knowing just what to extract from Zhao Lu Si

Did you finish?
How was it?

💯 💯 💯
With some caveats.

Will write more later.

OMGAWD!! 😍😍🩵🩵🥰🥰
You too belong in that unique OFL club?
I haven't dared to peek into OFL discussion thread yet (until I have some serious ammo about why it's so brilliant and why I full heartedly shipped Wang and Lu in this rare gem of a role and drama inspite of its many weaknesses).
I was warned by a fellow OFL lover about it 😅

Anyway so happy to know that I found someone on Meteor Garden because of Wang in OFL.

Wang is also I in Ever Night 2.
But in that I cannot wrench Ning Que out of Chen Fei Yu out of my head - the role and the actor so perfectly blended into each other - so I may never end up watching EN2 🫣🙈

I had tried watching BOF (the KDrama Version) and found it so "cringey" and the FL so pathetic (am a fan of spunky non-infantile, actresses / roles) and wimpy and weepy and constant "aegyo" faced that I dropped it within an episode or two.
It was also quite repugnant in the way the female role was represented.

However over the years I have ALWAYS bumped into raving fans of the show.. Like a cult following!!

I knew Meteor Garden was a Chinese version bud didn't bother with it either.
This year I forayed into CDrama and discovered quite a few gems of great stories / directing / actors.

I recently finished watching Dylan Wang in Only For Love, and loved his role as well as the story and of course I am Bai Lu fan.

Thus I wondered if I should check out Dylan in this version of BOF.

Any comments anyone who has watched both versions?

After seeing her in 9 eps of PW..hmmm her work on ROTP is mild.. She was still growing her skills

Goodness Heavens..I cannot believe it yet that such a drama exists on CDrama 🫣

Absolutely riveted.
This is a straight up binge material.

When slice of life meets fantasy..

Nini excels beyond expectations.

The cracky dialogues are at a different plane altogether.

Head over heels for the actress 🎊
The script 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
The directing 🥳🥳

Am on Ep 9
Dear God let this show not disappoint 🙈🙏🏽🙈

I had such a awful run with AOS.. Couldn't shake off the ugh feel..this has put the dopamine back in my blood.

Thanks @Arbaz Akhtar for your recco.

I owe you for pointing me to PW

Loving it.

Ni Ni is killing it - she's ma gal .. Hot sparks and wit and spunk wrapped in a devilishly magnetic beauty.

Oh neat - let's pick up once you watch Age of Innocence 😅

🤣😂

😝🤣

Lol.. Good for you.

Sounds like we watched different shows 😅

Just kidding.

I bumped into you in some other board sometime back.
I see some unusual watches on your list that I clicked with 😀

You didn't watch TTEOTM?
Or Love is Sweet?

Or Twenty One - Twenty Five?

And for What Happened in Bali lemme recommend to you Go Soo in Age of Innocence.

Xx

Terrible chemistry imo

Heck it went south so quick -

ZERO chemistry!!!
Poor poor LYX - someone had it out for him.. To torture him into playing against a piece of log.. A yule log has more life in it crackling in the fireplace.

He must have had 10 times more alcohol post show than during the show to hit the bed.

What were the Drama team smoking when they cast her.

My favourite go to actress of the moment - when I need to shake myself out of the funk and gunk of an awful FL - Bai Lu.

I need to go back and peek at YouTube clips of Bai Lu and LYX or Bai Lu and ZLH.

You definitely missed the FL.. So blazing hot (as usual) was LYX 🤪

That's why you were like - hey I smelt something curdled up and off - terrible terrible casting!!

Did you manage to get past that FL?

Oh sorry, that was an experiment in AI.. Trying out CGI generated FL.

You didn't know 🤣😂🤣😂
