On FL choices - I am sure a good number of us, she/he/they, who populated this forum, have had to make the same…
Thank you for sharing this.
Spot on.
Isn't that what happened in CLOY??
I too know absolutely amazing families living on different continents beocause of jobs; a families raising several kids also.. And traveling back and forth. It's a luxury for sure to be able to that. Those who can't have often had to sacrifice that one great love of their life.
What a DIFFERENT take in this Drama from Memories of Love - the Wallace Chung 30 episode drama π
I think the point was that she isnβt a teenager anymore that would do impulsive decisions out of love because…
@rabbin
Yes.
And frankly anyone of us who has lived that long in a vast Metropolitan city and are in super upwardly mobile jobs that bring meaning to our lives, the nameless crowds that give us the joy of anonymity especially if we are in the minority; it actually gives us a freedom to relish who we are without judgement.
It's not going to be exciting to move back into a "gossip mongering" small town which you have long ago left behind (with many memories of feeling stifled and hedged in); hardly any opportunity to grow in the field of one's training and experience; nor relax with activities that you have grown to enjoy and chill with.
One can relate to someone who loves the hum drone and buzz of a big city.
On the otherhand one can also relate to her finding THAT ONE Goddamn sexy wonderful man who is single handedly making her heart race.. Hum Drone and Buzz fiercely whenever he's showing up close to her...
Whaddya Do Man!!!!!!!!!
I do NOT envy her situation The viewer is in the meantime DYING along with her.. Going on a roller-coaster of emotions in sync with her
I donβt interpret it as simple as a person vs a city. What she means is her life in the city, everything sheβs…
@Mpage
Agree.
If I may add to that : yes it's the most expected and typical "Asian" mindset. However, WHAT SETS it apart in this drama is that HER MOM has high hopes dreams for her daughter and would hate for ZJ to throw her Shanghai life and dreams of a soaring career for her and the family.
She wants to live vicariously through her daughters success bought at a heavy price.. She feels so sad that her daughter suffered the disability.. So she would revel when her daughter is happiest
Honestly, I wish she wasn't so open to a relationship and encouraging the ML. In my opinion, he has tried to resist…
That's the CORE of this drama. Why would there even be drama if it was not to explore this tension, this push and pull, it's killing us but we are lapping it up also... Because it feels so real - conflicts like this
I think they discussed that in the last episodes? Something like because she likes him she is gonna go with it…
@rabbin
Yes. I agree with your reasoning.
Mine was partly that, and partly she doesn't want to hold back on her current feelings as they surge up when she sees him and she is trying hard to swat away the "calculating thoughts that tend to swarm when she isn't in his gravitational pull; most important of which is the long term feasibility; the possibility of heartbreak and failure when practical considerations begin to take over daily conjugal life."
The fact that she isn't deluded into a rosy ever after scenario shows her maturity (which comes with age; with experience of previous relationships). But given that she considers her attraction to him an equal and opposite force to her love of her life in the city that has embraced her, she is willing to give it a trial run. Isn't that how Real World Couples date and get to know and see if it grows meaningful.
Let's not forget that her Shanghai love is also a decade old and she in return is in such sync with that - it's a settled long term relationship.
Her feelings for CMD its just begun, only a seed lay dormant all these years!! That first flutter she felt on the journey back from Shanghai and chance encounter, was the first green sprout. Her adult intense physical yearning to be with him may just be lust which is usually temporary... She needs to navigate that and see where it leads.
She is brave and willing to risk the trial, the heartbreak it might bring.. He on the otherhand is a resolute man who seems the kind to take a decision and stick to it.. He has the trauma of breakup of his parents. He must have judged them in a negative light in a harsh way and decided nothing could happen if one didn't act on whatever the reason.
We will need to see (if drama explores it) what did HE take away from his failed relationship.
I just swung by to check her after 3 years of Drama ending.
Didn't think they're was anyone left in Drama Viewer world who hadn't watched it π π
Interesting that there is a trickle.
I also came to check what ratings it had settled into over this long period of time..
Wow!!!
9/10
Pretty solid I must say!!
However interesting to note that although Queen of Tears is neck and neck as per MDL NEWS (almost overtaking CLOY as the highest ALL TIME Grooser in Drama) and reports elsewhere in media, it's got rating of just 8.8/10.
I guess MANY are waiting to watch after it's canned.
And over time it'll show higher rating..catching up with CLOY
Everyone pretty much who is live-watching the show is here, chirping and having a blast sharing their flutters and squees; joking around... SPOILER TAG is few and far between..
Understandably so.
Many WANT to know stuff before hand : replies to those are easy to spoiler tag Many Plug their ears and go "zzzznononozzz" with eyes squeezed closed π that would be π―π― ME π«£π they love the surprises, reveals and find beauty in the unknown..
However a Drama Like this also has its sweet pull impossible to restrain and ends up turning the thread into the feel of a noisy, joyful bazaar of clamoring and loud celebration - SPOILER TAGS go off like masks in End of Covid times even though it was still lurking.
SO BEWARE - TREAD carefully.
Unless you have watched all eps and want to join in without fear of reveals STAY AWAY - Esp if you are like me ππ
I admire her a lot; that she is mature and strong enough to know how fragile a long term relation that was built on impulsive decisions can end up being.

You nailed it pal!!
You said it in fewer words while I spilt several paras ππ€£
And @0525
For sharing these stats.
I guess one of those TRULY SURPRISE hits..
Tencent thought : at best silver.. But viewer touch turned it to gold.
Going for diamond in the Slice of Life category for sure.

Pomodoro technique is not possible while studying with THIS wickedly good drama flirting with you on the side

The insane chemistry and insane MATURE STORY has stirred up a storm...

And so many of those King -dads and Queen - moms in Period Dramas.
Eeeeeeesh!!
TTEOTM dads come to mind
As does LLTG famous Mom (although she was very complex and in the end one feels her pain to the core - what an actress she too)
Gosh you said it.
I can so get her.
I admire her a lot; that she is mature and strong enough to know how fragile a long term relation that was built on impulsive decisions can end up being.
Heartbreaking BUT SO REAL.
Anyone watched "Strangers Again"?
Spoiler Tag on this Drama Comment Thread will be impossible now - viewers are openly discussing so excitedly...
Best to stay out or skim First lines only and skip if you'd sense a spoiler coming up.
I have skipped all comments that hinted at discussing the book.
I am also avoiding reading when a new pack has released
