I never expected to love this series. But episode 9th and 10th is where I started to feel the need for more. The CGI is awesome and the battle scenes are suspenseful. I play these kinds of games and I can relate to the emotions of the characters. Splendid!
I thought this will be an excellent series after the first two episodes. But after episode 6, it is becoming trite. That part when Qiu Ying and Yi Yi dress up as waiters is so annoying from the time they were able to enter the venue, the way they get the waiter's uniform, the way they eat while in waiters' uniform, holding a camera while in uniform. etc etc. The acting of these two characters are off, more on the overacting side which make them unlikable. Now I am in episode 16 and some male characters acting is also over the top. The story is actually good and Wang Yi Bo's acting remains constant and on point. But I can't say that with the others. This is not a bad series overall, but after enjoying the realism of esports in Go Go Squid and the released episodes of The King's Avatar, this series is turning out to be too cliched which could be better with a better script and directing.
This series is getting better each episode. From the acting to the direction, haunting music to the crisp dialogues and enchanting cinematography, everything is well-planned and made so well. I understand China's censorship and outsiders like me can only understand their beliefs and where they are coming from. And from a viewer like me, it's not about whether this comes from a BL novel, it is more about how the story unfolds and comes to life and executed so well given the constraints and circumstances. Hats off to everyone involved in making such a beautiful masterpiece.
Why do I feel like I wanna cry in the scene of the Jiang siblings eating together in ep 30., and giving a bowl to Wen Ning (also one of my fave characters). So heartwarming to watch. Seems to forebode that the dreaded scenes are about to happen. I love how this series touches the hearts as it tells the story!
The series has a lot of promise to begin with. But I would say I did not fully enjoy this because of all the cliches and melodramatic tropes, not to mention those convenient coincidences used to advance the story and plot plus the textbook antagonist. Anyway, it is not that bad, just okay and predictable.
The episodes are getting better and better. The growth of the characters is evident. Pha and Wayo's chemistry is sweet and they act so playful and natural, not forced and awkward. And Ming and Kit's acting is slowly shining through. As their story deepens, their acting and expressions come out naturally. It seems the production really took time to choose the actors who can best give life to the characters.
I love the quick Eng subs. And honestly, this series makes my day. The smiles it gives me is immeasurable. Really, Li Zian and Yang Zi deliver topnotch chemistry that transcends from the screen to the viewers. And the absence of wicked antagonists make this even better. Ep 30 is so sweet! This series is not yet finished but I am already hoping for another series for them.
I am in episode 8 and I might say this drama is still not growing in me. I can't find the emotional attachment I get in My Huckleberry Friends and With You. It might be the technique of going back and forth in time to tell the story in just 24 short episodes, or the fast pacing like in most K-dramas which leaves most of the emotional details for the viewers to squeeze out of the imagination, or I find the acting a bit timid with plenty of female characters extra active chasing love. Anyway, this is not a bad series and will continue to watch hoping this one will be one to remember also.
Li Xian acting made the character memorable. Maybe the new lead can give justice to the role too, but I personally would find it confusing if I'll watch this.
I am now in episode 5 but I am not enjoying the character of the female lead plus the cliched wicked antagonists. I have to put this on hold first until I am sure that there will be a happy ending.
I really love the natural chemistry between Li Xian and Yang Zi. They are the best! But I might add, there is something in Li Hong Chi who plays Mi Shao Fei which magnetizes. His expressions and acting is so naturally good!
Currently in episode 7 but I am forcing my way through the episodes. For me, it's not actually a bad series, but I am somewhat bored and the scenes seem disconnected with major scenes which are built up from previous scenes are cut abruptly or sparsely shown. Will try to watch some more to see if I can find a way to enjoy this.
I kinda admit that after so many series that I've watched, this is the first one I was so addicted to, that I need to watch the raw episodes in Youtube while waiting for the English subs. This is really good and it sends so many good vibes and the chemistry between Li Xian and Yang ZI is electrifying and acting so on point!
Finished watching the series. It is one complex drama with realistic plot and characters who are so well thought off, their dimensions are so deep that every one of them is relatable. There is indeed reason for any action and it is clearly shown in the series. Concepts such as depression, parenting, loyalty, love and others are touched well. The story, direction, cinematography including those camera angles are excellent. And most especially the acting, they are all excellent. The chemistry of Deng Lun and Angelababy is so cute to watch.
One thing needed to watch this series is to have a mature heart or else one might not agree with those repentance and forgiveness aspects shown as well as those dialogues which really build up the story and the characters. In a drama, viewers may want to see those who did wrong to get retributions they deserve, but in this drama, we look at situations in many angles and be a bigger person to remain calm and forgiving. I love this series! And also the theme song and music!
I chanced upon this series. While it looks promising as coming-of-age series, instead of focusing on the leads and a deeper understanding of life, there is an annoying troublemaker and a bunch of dumb followers who make bullying their only role, taking up most of the episodes thru repetitive storyline. Too bad, theses cliches and one-dimensional characters make this series boring. Shallow plot with not much content.
This series starts well and I was hooked though some frustrating scenes start to come in early, The story makes the female lead too selfish and self-centered yet dumb and flirtatious. If not for her comedy, she will be super annoying. But good job to Janice Wu because she's my favorite, I just don't like the shallow character development as well as plot, and that makes me never pity the police officer and less like the story. But it is not bad overall.
I had fears that this version will be another bunch of good looking kids who can't deliver authentic acting. But the first episode showed they can act. Wayo and Pha's facial expressions clearly express their emotions, esp Wayo when he's irritated. Nice first episode.
I tried watching this. The first few episodes are excellent and kept me glued watching. But further and further, it seems the series is maximizing the number of episodes by inserting too much side stories, but the story arc of the lead characters remain the same, push and pull, dragged to too many episodes with less progression in the plot. Most characters are underdeveloped because they focus on inserting too many story arcs that the characters become annoyingly confusing. Add to that the character of the doctor, the second male lead which goes nowhere.
At least the saving grace is the acting of Zhu Ya Wen, Claudia Wang, and Julia Ye as Guoguo. They delivered excellent and natural acting even with their confusing characters. Given the bad writing and over the top characterization, overall, it's not that bad, just not good enough compared to other latest C-dramas.
I was hesitant to watch this series because I already know the ending but I'm glad I tried it and it turned out as one of the best dramas I've seen. The journey to the end is such an amazing treat. I am easily distracted by bad acting, bad plot, bad story but this series touches my heart in many ways that I was pulled in immediately by the first few episodes and I never realize it but I was already enjoying its totality.
The relationships between families, friends, lovers, classmates as shown proves that each person is unique and special. As I watch the scenes, the more the individual traits of each character surface, and I appreciate their actions as unique to them.
The soundtrack is amazing. The songs used make the scenes more emotional. I love this series, highly recommended!
