Going back to the realism I’m going to recite my own story:
(I’m in the UK so college is after high school fyi)
In college I met a Korean student who moved to the UK for her dad’s work, she was in my tutor group and she was sweet, funny and looks like a literal goddess. Like couldn’t take my eyes off of her. We got partnered up for the year and I was ecstatic.
She has a close male friend who my god was annoying and rude. Around her he was different though aka nice and kind to all etc etc.
Kept telling me I have to stay away from her as they would be dating soon as they’ve known each other for years blah blah blah.
Saying her dad would hate me as I’m not Korean or that I won’t be successful the usual spout.
He was overly obsessive the point of pushing random people away when they got close. I remember the gayest man alive gave her a hug and he sprinted over and asked what we was doing. Bearing in mind the gay man wore pink makeup and heels everyday.
Turning point was when I hugged her after we had a 5 hour exam and asked if she wanted to have dinner and have to admit I saw him maybe 200meters away and decided to hug and ask.
He sprinted over and ripped us apart and tried to punch me, but missed and fell almost punching her. So I stood in front and happily her father arrived and saw it all and thankfully that was really the end of him.
Happy to report me and her have been dating for 2.5 years and her father and mother is a big fan of me and my family. Korean mothers are great the food is great.
Our love for Liverpool FC helped the bonding.
Hope you get my hatred for the character now. Might like him soon but I dunno.

Only on episode 3 but Tae Yang seems way to possessive over someone who clearly doesn’t like him
When they feel into the water they both swam down to get her, the ML got there first and then Tae Yang snatched her away and all he thought about was kissing her not saving her life
Liked her for years but hasn’t said anything but all of a sudden he believes he has the right to stop others from liking her or has priority over her. She isn’t an object she’s a woman.

Like you said he being possessive and obsessive to someone who thinks of him as a brother and friend.
Also like that you said with it being annoyingly realistic know way too many people who are like this.
Only part I sympathise with is his father he’s a pos but doesn’t mean he gets to act like he is.
