Title Ever Night
About the Ning Que/Sang Sang relationship being too lopsided in his favor, S2 will stupefy you with the truth,…
its not about being equal/worthy.
While she turns out to be a goddess - she behaves like his daughter/maid/sibling and he is her parent/master/brother - there was nothing that said romantic partner with these two. They kind of force it with the whole marriage thing in season 2 (and man was that whole marriage/wedding night thing awkward) - it just isn't that kind of relationship.

one of those dramas that kind of lands in the middle - not bad, but not great.
Another FL that isn't all that likeable for most of the drama (part of this has to with actress - she is just kind of stone-faced and not a whole lot of range in emotions) - character itself is not that appealing (to me) - hyper focused on business and that is really all she cares about. Although I do find it funny that they have to make her an 'expert' in so many things - a business genius, weapons manufacturer/designer, textiles/dye expert - it was a bit much. I mostly lost it when she says she could spot the poison in the tea because she is so familiar with dyes from her families textile business - come on writers!
Romance definitely feels VERY one-sided for most of this drama - as usual, FL doesn't come around until she thinks ML has died and then finally gives in (which isn't until almost the end in this drama) - just wanted to roll my eyes.
I also have to laugh at the constant idea in dramas that couples have sex once and bam! they are pregnant - so ridiculous!
Story was somewhat interesting and if you like this genre - definitely worth a watch.
Writers totally failed in the ending - while happy - it was VERY unsatisfactory. 1. Didnt show the babies (and everyone shocked she has had twins - cause when we left off just knew she was pregnant and then we skip ahead a whole year and now there are two of them) and the weirdest convo about splitting them - dear lord they aren't even 6 months old yet. It was just too cold (although in-line with her character) - just very off-putting. also, because the main couple themselves have been separated - and this is the very first convo - it was just weird. 3 - no consequences for both the kings and their abhorrent behavior. 3 - ending for Qi Min and Lou Zi Zhou. All just bad.
Could have really done without the whole crazy princess - she didnt really add anything beyond annoyance. And the whole pairing of her with Qi Min and trying to make this some sort of love story was just awful. The girl was a bit mentally unhinged. And while they try to make us sympathize with her because of her backstory - it just didnt excuse her behavior in the slightest. And more annoyed at everyone around her who just lets her run amuck because they feel bad for her. If you are going to watch - just ff through these parts - it doesn't affect the story in the slightest.

I enjoyed it, though had to fast forward a lot of scenes. The acting of both leads is much better than when I…
yes - such a ridiculous convo to be had after not seeing each other for along time
On Love of the Divine Tree Feb 27, 2025
This is not going to be a popular comment - but it is my impression after having just finished it.
It's not bad - but it's not great either. If you like this genre - definitely worth a watch - but it's a pretty standard xanxia story with all the usual tropes.
I did enjoy most of the costuming and good ensemble cast - again, not great, but good.
Love the ML - he did a great job and I look forward to seeing him in other things. Can we please pair him with a FL who is closer to his own age next time?
FL was just ok for me - enojyed her the most as Mu Quingge - not so much as Ran Ran - just a bit too immature for me.
I so, SO do not like master/disciple relationships - its a whole power dynamic thing that just bothers me. It's especially bothersome when she comes back because is twice her age at this point and much more evident that she is a child/student (I know, I know, its her second life, but she doesn't know that and gets crush on her teacher - its just not right)
Their chemistry was also just ok -a gain, better when she is Mu Quingge and while sufficient kissing scenes - I just did not feel the sizzle ( I think a large part of this is the FL is only 22yrs old - so not a lot of experience with this).
Again, just my thoughts after watching and give it a go if you like this genre - its not bad.
On Flourished Peony Feb 24, 2025
UGH - didn't realize this was only part 1 - now left very unsatisfied - I hate waiting!
It's a good story and the two leads are fantastic (probably some of the best work by both of them) - but I can almost guarantee, whatever is in store for season 2 - they could have done all in 1 season. Probably will move to more direct palace intrigue story and the actual development of a romance between the leads.
My only real problem was the usual FL character who is myopically focused on business/money and her own emotions and completely oblivious to the ML's emotions (some of it intentional as she clearly doesn't want to admit feelings) - but it just got very stale and repetitive after a while.
Beautiful filmed, amazing costume (although I dont much care for the makeup/hair style of this era)
Totally worth a watch.
On Motel California Feb 17, 2025
I will say, right off the bat - I enjoy both the lead actor/actress. But I can see why this got bad reviews or people were mixed about it. When you write a FL who is solely unlikeable through most of the drama - it makes it hard. it doesn't matter that her 'rage at the world' was justifiable given her childhood trauma - but it just wasn't presented well and they didnt do enough to make you sympathize with her. She was just mean (instead of just broken)and that never plays well.
The script is disjointed in too many places - the timeline with what happens to her mom gets confusing, the 'redemption' and end love story of his mom was not ok, what exactly is his mom and her dad's relationship, a little too much time spent flashing back to their childhood (although, the child actress is fantastic!). It got super-messy, which didnt help an already flawed drama.
I was also thrown off by the fact that a bunch of her bullying backstory was because she looked 'different' - they show her as an adult with lighter hair and eyes, but, as a child she had dark hair and eyes and didnt look all that different from anyone else (minus the freckles - which she then didnt have as an adult) - so that disconnected and it was a HUGE part of her backstory.
This was also one of those stories where the real solution for this FL character was to go get a good therapist - she had low self-esteem/self-love issues, death of her mother which she felt responsible for, anger management issues, doesn't know how to process her feelings, etc...- you dont just solve these with love - I know this doesn't make it as dramatic as love healing her - but it's just not realistic or healthy.
And could you have a main couple with a more unhealthy relationship?? that whole opening sequence of having sex with him and then leaving was just awful - but really does set the whole tone of how she just did what she wanted, only really cared about her feelings and he just did whatever she wanted - he was kind of doormat (which he also does with his mother).
She is one of those exhausting people where they have to deal with their emotions right then and there and everyone else just needs to deal with it And, until she is done - no one else can move. She really was that angry eight year old (which was kind of the point) - but it's just exhausting to watch. At least as a child I can have some sympathy because they are a child - not so much when its a full-grown adult.

I think this was the only drama that the age was the most noticeable, even though I love Bai Lu and she is super…
Exactly!
On Moonlight Mystique Feb 14, 2025
Not bad, but cant say I loved it.
ML's costume were amazing - especially the velvety ones.
I generally like Bai Lu - but she was just ok in this for me
Really wish they would stop having 30yr old actresses trying to play 18/20 yr old characters - it just does not translate well - I dont care how great an actor/actress they are - its pretty obvious they aren't that young.
Will never understand the need to kill off all the main leads family and friends so they are left alone at the end - just dont get it at all.
Did appreciate there isn't any stupid love triangle and they do communicate pretty well - but, in the end, the evil guy is evil because he couldn't get the girl - such an overdone trope.
On The Blossoming Love Feb 9, 2025
meh - it was ok. Started off good, got super-draggy through the middle (especially the part where she goes back to remember what happened - this took WAAAYYY too long) and then a rushed ending - you know, the usual cdrama.
Thought the leads were great and they had great chemistry.
Really good FL (for most if it - got a little off track towards the end) - strong, decisive, playful, smart - loved her!
Story was just all over the place, especially confusing at the end - mostly due to the rushed nature of it. They do that thing of staying too long in a partiucaulr story arc that didnt d=need that much time and then not enough time to end it properly.

I really don't want to know what would be going on in the comments if the ML had done what FL does. Double Standards…
exactly!
On The Tale of Lady Ok Jan 31, 2025
Pretty damn good. A few draggy spots and I could have dome without the annoying mother's club lady (she eventually becomes the head of it) Otherwise, really good story and characters.
Such a great departure for Im Ji Yen from Glory(she is wonderful in both these roles) - she really nailed it here.
ML was fantastic in dual roles and man could you feel his longing from the FL - this truly was a man who loved this woman with every fiber of his being.
Didnt like Man Seok's ending - felt kind of unnecessary
So glad it had a happy ending - getting very tired of the tragic or open endings - I like clear closure on my stories and I dont need tragedy (enough of that in the real world right now)
Speaking of the ending, while I was generally happy with it - this was also probably one place they kind of failed - in the usual vein of being rushed. Not enough info about brother coming back - would have been kind of interesting if they had run his story along with the main story - where was he, what was he doing, what happened to him - it was always clear they were going to have bring him back, but they wait too long and not enough time on it - while they give us a quick recap - would have been good to actually see - its almost is its own story.
On Song of the Moon Jan 24, 2025
I originally dropped this after ep 1 because I couldn't stand the FL character (childish voice, dumb as a rock) - came back to try again while I was waiting for something else to finish. I pushed my way through because of BinBin and the Demon brothers - otherwise, this was not very enjoyable for me.
Never did like the FL - I just hate this thing they do where they are going for 'naive' because she has been hidden away for 18 yrs (they never really did explain why she wasn't allowed to leave the house for 18yrs - but, ok) - but they just come across as so dumb, add in the super-childish voce and it is just painful to watch. I could write pages about awful this character was - just so poorly written.
She makes mistake after mistake cause she doesn't really use her head - then causes chaos, needs to be rescued, which leads to ML or 2ML getting injured in some way - which then causes other issues - she was just a walking hot mess. And, after doing this multiple times, it just got annoying. She was another FL that I just did not understand why these 2 men were willing to give up their very lives for her - she just wasn't worth it all. I really had it when she seals off her Devine powers just so she can be with the guy - really! what kind of message is that - give up your very essence just so you can be with a guy - yeah, NOOOO. And, of course, in the end - an almost fatal mistake.
Cant say I cared for the actress playing this character either. She spends most of the drama looking like a sad puppy with the furrowed brow - trying to be either sad or concerned - not sure which.
I cannot stand these loves story that do the noble sacrifice thing - let me give up my life for you - but not gonna tell you I am making this HUGE decision until its too late (cause I dont want you to be sad 😞 - ugh!!!!). It drives me nuts because its about agency and people getting to make their own choices and yet, here we have two people who are supposed to love each other who contstantly make life-altering decisions that impact that person, without discussing and letting them make their own choices (I know, I know, it doesn't create as much drama - but, it can be done)
On The Lady in Butcher's House Jan 21, 2025
Not bad, but not good either - somewhere in the middle
VERY slow and draggy
Not any real sizzle between main couple - better chemistry between other couples. They do have some 'cute' moments and slightly better towards the end, but mostly non-existent through most of this.
Biggest flaw was making the FL so mean and violent for a big chunk of this (especially at the beginning - which is when we get invested in the characters). The downright domestic abuse and violence was pretty bad on her part. It really broke me the ML starts to negotiate with her about where to hit him - this is just soooo wrong and had roles been reversed, everyone would be in an outrage instead of thinking it funny or playing it off as her just having a temper - no, it was outright abuse.
It also didnt help at how meek and mild they made the ML. I get what they were going for - but it was a bit ridiculous
So, really, two badly written main characters. I could at least go with it because of the ML actor, but the FL actress just didnt do it for me.
You also know the pairing is bad when you are rooting for them to NOT be together.
Wulang had to be my favorite character of the whole drama - gotta go see what else he is in!

im just assuming that FL was dealing with grief and shock of sudden death of the friend that she didnt stop to…
I could go with initially not being able to process - but 8yrs later and it still hasn't crossed her mind - yeah, no, just didn't work for me.
I also kept hoping they would redeem Peng - he really had suffered enough

On Idol: The Coup Jan 16, 2025
way more interesting than I thought is was going to be - especially since I am not a big fan of Kpop dramas. Not a big fan of the whole trainee/kpop industry and what it does to these young people. Also - all the terrible, choreographed/lip-syncing, staged performances - but, mostly, its the fan culture that this industry has created that drives me the most nuts
Was a bit disappointed that there was allusion to some sort of romance between Jenna and Jae hyun (even alluded to in the photos on this page). He even admits to his aunt that he likes her and then they just did nothing with it. I know it wasn't the focus - but why even go there at all if you aren't going to do anything with it - just weird.
The Du-Ho story is the most heartbreaking
Could soooo done without all the screaming - both Hyun-ji and Biyong - it was just too much of it and got repetitive.
