Person Song Zu Er
Rumored project after Biao Mei Wan Fu: https://kisskh.at/760543-a-zhi-a-zhi

This is a Republican & WW2 era story and she's strongly linked to the FL role, it's about a mountain thief ML who kidnaps a wealthy upperclass lady in the late 1930s and they fall in love, later they become spies during the Japanese invasion (not sure if they'll adapt the Nanking massacre bit in the novel it's terribly horrific and the author doesn't pull any punches) and the 2nd ML is a Japanese soldier who comes between them.

Thank you for the summary. Knowing this storyline, I don't feel like cheering for Lareina to be part of this project.…
On the bright side the rumour got debunked haha let's see who ends up doing this since Tencent has the IP rights. Zuer is rumored for a Republican drama after 表妹万福。

It’s so sad that now people think that for actor, popularity comes first before skills. Well… i think you…
Glad you agree but even Daylight is now admitting that liuliang is important for a drama to air well, not just screen presence or charisma if you look at their recent projects e.g. Yangzi's Born to Be Alive, Zhang Linghe casted in 樱桃琥珀, Fan Chengcheng casted in Romance in the Alley, or Xiaozhan casted in 谍报. They want their dramas to get good viewership so Daylight know they have to cast a liuliang who will get the views up, and surround them with people who can act. Even Hu Ge with his charisma and presence is 2nd billed to Yangzi. Re: Steven, he's now paired up with Chen Sicheng who will give him lead ML film or tv opportunities so he's not going to take on support roles unfortunately (fyi Steven apparently got his industry reputation as a good actor by coming in 1st in the art auditions for BFA, STA, CAD entrance test and chose to study musicals at CAD with Dengwei who did dance musicals... even Dengwei is now a big liuliang due to his Tushan Jing role despite acting in way fewer dramas and quitting his course due to an injury)

IMO Steven suits very specific styling and roles (like Zhang Wanyi he is very 土, unfashionable, and has rustic vibes, such rustic actors have zero hope of becoming a liuliang or ever debuting as an idol, and those who succeed at becoming liuliangs are often either idols or fashionably idol-esque or model-like in vibe & appearance e.g. Xiaozhan, Esther Yu, Yibo, TfBoys, Rosy Zhao) and needs to understand what kind of roles and dramas he suits. For instance he did JITD which is popular abroad but in China his overly feminine portrayal of the ML is seen as a joke and regularly lampooned on social media for the stereotypically flamboyantly gay gestures, and the novel 默读 is one of the most famous and popular BLs so many Cnetz think he ruined the role of Peisu. It's pretty unheard of to act in a BL and somehow become less popular (i think he's gained some BL fans but the general opinion of his acting isn't as good now) so Steven needs to realise he isn't as versatile as he reckons and suits family themed dramas like Go Ahead. He's nowhere near as fashionable or model/idol-esque like Xiaozhan, Zhu Yilong, Johnny Huang, GongJun, Wang Yibo to do a BL and get popular enough to be a liuliang, and the folks casting for JITD should've casted better MLs than Steven or Fu Xinbo, even someone like Tan Jianci (former idol, great acting, great voice, has swag) would be a better Peisu.

https://www.douban.com/group/topic/330501020/?_spm_id=ODM2ODQ3NDA Two years on, this drama is having low ratings just as predicted and Steven Zhang is getting called 体寒咖 because he can't even make a BL or Daylight drama popular. Oh well, I'm sure the fans think it doesn't matter even if nobody watches his shows, apparently they think a show that nobody watches will get him awards and it means his acting is good but very misunderstood and nobody gets his art or something. Lol

Apparently they are mosquito bites?

I just wanna say, that Tian Xuning is also gonna benefit from the collab with Shen Yue. She has a huge international…
To be fair, other actresses have global fans too, some not as much as Shen Yue (who isn't as popular as Rosy Zhao abroad) but it doesn't matter since Chinese celebs rarely promote outside China and aren't trying to move to USA, Korea, Thailand, or Indonesia.

I don't understand all these global fans who think they are more influential than China, when most are 白嫖 (those who consume content for free and don't pay) who watch on piracy sites or YouTube, even Viki, WetV etc doesn't contribute to the viewership in China where it really matters. Chinese fandoms are the ones buying 云包场 (sponsoring
>100k temporary IQiyi/Tencent/Youku membership passes whenever their actor has a new drama), having mass buying events for magazines or goods (for instance if an actor is a "friend" of L'Oreal/LV/Gucci etc they will be upgraded to ambassador if they show the ability influence buying patterns), and holding offline birthday events or watch parties. This is why Chinese actors focus mostly on the domestic market and sales unlike other countries' actors.

Jealous of what exactly? 🙄 I just posted what folks of Douban think aka Chinese viewers. I really do wish Shen Yue the best of luck, hopefully she explodes in fame and wins all the Best Actress awards so everyone here is satisfied and nobody is allowed to ever give their neutral opinion on her ever again 😉

Well I'm fluent in Chinese and mostly post on Douban, it's not really my opinion (I have quite a positive view of her tbh) but the general opinion online? I don't want to harp on this and wish the best for Shen Yue sincerely, I hope she has hits from hereon.

Alright, it's all her useless agency's fault she isn't as popular as Dilreba, Esther Yu, Yang Zi and not the fact she's limited by her visuals and can't take on a wide variety of roles outside school dramas like this, ALSB, Comic Bang. She isn't shoehorned into any genre at all and will convincingly play female generals, wuxia fighters, queens, fairies, detectives, princesses, doctors and win Best Actress awards if given the chance, it's her agency, casting directors, Chinese audiences, and everyone else to blame that she's not being casted in Prisoner of Beauty, Flourished Peony, LBFAD and other hits. Everyone owes her an apology ok? 😉 Please stop replying thanks....

She got the Shancai role because she was popular after ALSB shot her to fame? I'm not saying even she's not a good fit, to be honest I didn't watch it unlike the Taiwanese version with Barbie Hsu but I saw gifs everywhere and IMO Shen Yue fit the role but it didn't really do well in China because the earlier version with Zheng Shuang and Hans Zhang was a smash hit and people didn't really want to watch a remake. Zheng Shuang got very, very popular off Meteor Shower, it helped her become a top liuliang with Dilreba and Yangzi and she filmed other hits like Love 020 under her scancal buried her rightfully.

Anyway I do realise it's kinda pointless to argue with biased fans who are blinded by their adoration of their idol so I do wish Shen Yue many more lead FL roles in xianxia and costumes, to leave her useless agency and join a top tier non-useless agency who will get her 大女主 dramas where she's 1st billed opposite Xiao Zhan, Zhang Yi, Jin Dong, with Yangzi or Dilreba as her supporting actresses 😂 and to win Best Actress awards at the Magnolia, Golden Eagle, and Flying Apsaras. FYI her ex costar Hu Yitian was recently in the news for not filming in 2 years after leaving his agency, which his fans used to blame. FYI China's longform drama industry is suffering from heavy competition from the rise short & vertical dramas so many actors have jumped into short dramas because they aren't getting lead roles in long dramas anymore. So I would say Shen Yue is lucky she's even getting FL roles despite the low views of her recent works, and unless she can convince people to cast her as FL with solid viewership figures she may also be bound for short or vertical shows because the drama industry is trending in that direction and even beautiful graduates of top acting schools like Hu Lianxin are filming short dramas now.

IDK she should be 1st or 2nd billed not a guest role no? This is called 偷番 in China lol

I really don't think sabotage is the right word, she had a lot of opportunities and "exploded in fame" in ALSB one of her first few dramas way back in 2017 when other same-aged actresses were unknown? So she had a really high starting point bc most actresses her age do a lot of supporting roles e.g. Kyulkyung, Lusi, Esther Yu, Wang Churan, Zhou Ye etc before they actually get popular in a lead role? Shen Yue was really "ahead" to get popular in a school drama at age 20 and it helped her get coveted roles like Meteor Garden.

The "issue" is that her acting and visuals limits her to modern dramas or nostalgic dramas mostly, she can't really do xianxia or ancient historical easily unless she convinces producers and investors that she's suitable as the FL (unless her agency wants to pay tens of millions to fund a drama for her?). I also think Shen Yue wants to do as many 1st billed roles as possible i.e. she won't accept being a 2nd billed actress to a more famous actor like Dylan, Xukai etc so her choices are limited.

It's not her agency's fault unless they are willing to get into film or drama production and produce dramas for her, but they are probably financially unable to do so? She can change agencies but it also depends if the top agencies want to sign her.

the power of BL. these gremlins are bound to care about profits so why aren’t they milking the industry
I find it really weird and disgusting that people here enjoy Chinese BL yet call Chinese people gremlins when they are making the shit you enjoy (not just BL, but all kinds of manufacturing).... Please look in the mirror and ask if you are even producing anything of value to the world before calling others gremlins 🚬

Well, honestly it's not a big role so you can't really take credit for it like she's the FL (usually in China they only credit the 1st & 2nd billed for the ratings, the director & screenwriter, unless a supporting role overshadowed the leads or won awards), I didn't watch it but isn't it a guest role? I do think Shen Yue suits support roles more than lead FL roles because ratings wise she tends to not attract Chinese viewers,.but she's very lucky that she's popular in Korea, Thailand etc so she's still able to film occasional FL roles modern dramas that don't cost a lot and don't require a lot of expensive sets, CGI and ancient costumes. These modern dramas can still turn a profit if they are sold abroad and don't cost a lot to film. She's very suitable for realistic or nostalgic dramas and should try to do support roles in such dramas alongside awardwinning actors like in Six Sisters.

She's more popular internationally than in China, which is a problem (hence why she does more varieties recently). Her recent Comic Bang had 300k views per episode online in China which is the lowest webdrama viewership this year I think? Idk. A lot of Chinese netizens think she should slowly switch to support FL roles but as you said she's still popular abroad so she gets shows like these which aren't really slated to do well in China but can be sold abroad like Comic Bang.

Txn is currently hot topic no doubt.but his team didnot used him just because he is now popular. This drama is…
His agency Huace is producing it so he has no choice but to act in it if they require (Wang Zihao is the same, another Huace newbie) bc he's not famous enough to get other roles before 逆爱 aired, that's the brutal truth 😂 Most Cnetz aren't very impressed by this production for various reasons, 1) Kdrama adaptations tend to flop bc Chinese viewers will just watch the Kdrama instead 2) the drama is clearly made for overseas audiences e.g. Shenyue isn't too popular viewership wise in China and the ML is from Taiwan. Nevertheless Huace is his agency and they tend to cast their own actors in support roles of inhouse dramas.
