Most comments are personal subjective opinions based on how a person FEELS about the show, which is shaped by their preferences and taste. If someone says they don't like the show because of yada yada yada - that's a personal subjective opinion. If someone says the show flopped - this would be a false fact that would require evidence.
Sounds like you've had that "debate" with her one too many time and no matter how many more times you try to "debate" with her, she's not gonna change her opinion. You could just let it go, you know.

Subbing is not really about precision and details. Subbing is about being concise. Especially for the Chinese language where a 4 chinese character idiom will translate to an English sentence of 20 words. The character took all, but 2 seconds to say the idiom, but we're left with 20 words to cram into 2 seconds the character opened their mouth. In subbing, there is something called Characters Per Second. When it starts to get too high, the CPS turns pink to red. Red means the CPS is too high, i.e. the translated lines are too long to comfortably read in the time allotted for the average human eyes. When the sentence gets way too long, subbing is all about summarizing and localizing as well, unfortunately, for those who don't understand the language and want every detail. (Netflix tends to summarize/localize a lot)
PeachBlossom is right, in that the 万 indicates plural/many. Literally, 万 means ten thousand, but in BW's case, 万 花 谷 wan hua gu means Valley of a Million Flowers, to indicate the abundance of flowers in the Valley. And yes, from what I remember, we did have the translated meaning in parenthesis and then stuck with Wanhua Valley afterwards. Sometimes we just shorten it to "Valley" because not enough time. Translating names of places is a preference thing. If it makes sense, we may, otherwise we prefer not to and leave it in pinyin, simply because most of the time, it doesn't sound good in English and is a mouthful to say/read. Viki is guilty of this, translating every name of places, and it gives me a good chuckle when reading it.
I know there is a minority that love details in subbing, but too much detail actually doesn't make for pleasant viewing for the majority of viewers. You'll be rewinding and pausing so often just to read everything. They are better off sticking to reading the translated novel.
Croton's subs are good. They are very aware of the CPS, so much so that, as PeachBlossom pointed out, may have missed the mark at some spots. In the first preview of ep1-2, I didn't like that they made Yunhe sound harsh and mean, when she was actually being cheeky and a bit flirtatious towards Changyi at their first meeting.
But oh wells, each to their own. Youtube is definitely an easier and more accessible streaming platform. I'm all for the official subs to come out so we can stop subbing, LOL. But we're so close to the end of part 1 now (grr, croton took too long) that we may as well finish off part 1.

This is my two cents. New Truth founder and leader is actually a villian. He is not some righteous selfless guy. When he received the prophecy that he will die in 20 years, he spent some years in suicidal thoughts, then felt it was unfair and he couldn't understand why he had to die. He lived in fear of his impending death. He wanted everyone to feel that same fear and he wanted the world to suffer as much as he did for 20 years. He made a cult, made up reasons for the prophecy, ie angel of death, you're a sinner bound for hell. He had 10 years to set this up. There is no "angel of death killing people at a certain schedule". The founder of New Truth made that up. All we see is a supernatural freaky head giving people their time of death, and 3 supernatural hulk-looking monsters executing that. This might be left for season 2 to explain the meaning behind these supernatural events. The last 3 episodes shows the consequences of the founder's plan. It worked, the world is in chaos, Arrowheads doing crime in the name of New Truth, people hiding in fear when they receive their prophecy and their families condemned as sinners too. The world is suffering. The baby is proof for the world to see that New Truth's doctrines are lies and stop their insanity. The founder gave the detective this option as well, to record him receiving his demonstration and prove that New Truth is fake, kind of spiting the detective, because the detective talked about human free will and justice, and if the detective really believed so, he should arrest his daughter for her crime. I'm no academic, this is how I simply saw it.

"bromance" is an english term meaning "a close but non-sexual relationship between two men", hence i said platonic love. there is absolutely no romance (romantic feelings). there is a deep bond, that yes, is like soulmates. soulmates can be either non-sexual (bromance, womance) or sexual (ie lovers: girl-girl, boy-boy, boy-girl).
you mentioned enemies will not die for each other, well of course not. they are enemies, there is no bromance. it is just the fans' wishful thinking to ship them together/as a joke, but in the actual dramas they do not have that bromance relationship (unless it's a love-hate relationship, ie rivalry, hate on the outside but deep down they care for the other). there is no bromance between real enemies.
i used "willing to die for the other" to show the closeness of the relationship.
BL, ie boy love, the term is very clear. there is romantic feelings between two men. WOH is based on a BL novel and when adapted to drama, production crew tried to disguise it as bromance to pass censorship, but it is clearly BL. a lot of dramas are like this to pass censorship, you just have to find/know the original source to know if it's BL or bromance. Ancient Detective has an excellent example of bromance. the two men care deeply for each other (ie willing to die for the other, gets upset at the other), but each have their own female partner who are they are sexually attracted to.
it seems a lot of people interchange bromance and BL, but yeah, completely incorrect. hope the above clarifies
