Daeho, The land of Ancient Mages
On A Beautiful Lie Oct 24, 2024
The preview of episode 18 brings up such an important topic that I rarely see in dramas about actors. It dives into the reality of doing intimate scenes with co-stars and how it affects their real-life partners. I’m really glad this drama is addressing it, unlike most other shows in this genre.

Why it's not doing well in China?
Both leads aren’t as popular domestically, even though they’re pretty well-known internationally, unlike actors like Xu Kai or Bai Lu, who are big both at home and abroad. That’s one reason why the heat index is low. Also, it’s a modern drama, and Chinese viewers tend to lean more towards historical dramas. The modern ones that do well usually have more complex plots, whereas this one has a lighter, more easygoing vibe.

I think we will receive the express package either on the 28th or 29th, as The Story of Pearl Girl is releasing on the 30th of October, and they would need to finish this before that starts.

Can please, someone tell the difference between a live-in husband and marriage? It seems it is not the same? Ha?
I think a live-in husband refers to a husband who lives with his wife and her parents in their house, which is essentially the opposite of the usual living arrangement after marriage.

Title The Rise of Ning Spoiler
I think the issue is that romance is a key part of the story, but the mystery of the FL's birth still hasn’t…
I totally get where you're coming from, and I agree that once she finds out the truth, it will definitely change the way she sees him, just like it did for him. I just wish we could have had that shift happen a little earlier, so we could enjoy watching their relationship grow with more depth instead of waiting for the reveal. It's like we're stuck in this sibling-zone, and it’s making the romance feel a bit stuck too, you know? Hopefully, once the truth is out, we’ll get that smooth transition you mentioned. Fingers crossed it happens soon!

look if you strictly here for romance then this might not be for you ( not that there won't be any but so far…
I think the issue is that romance is a key part of the story, but the mystery of the FL's birth still hasn’t been revealed to her. Because of this, she sees the ML as her brother, when it should’ve been cleared up earlier. This way, we could enjoy the gradual development of their romance, and it wouldn’t feel so sudden when it finally happens. I don’t mind slow-burn romances, but when more than half the drama is over and the romance hasn’t even started due to a big misunderstanding that could easily be resolved, it feels frustrating.

Title Kill Me Love Me Spoiler
I saw a preview for tonights episode...mrjh told ml to call him big brother. They better quit with the brother…
I haven't watched the preview yet, but I think it's the translation's fault, as 'brother' (GeGe) in China can also be used between lovers in a flirty way, just like 'Oppa' can be used in two instances in Korea.

I read the novel long time ago. I think towards the end, both of them learn from each other and become better…
Yeah, my thoughts are changing too after completing half of it. Both of them had immense growth after some chapters. Maybe my initial thoughts were wrong.

Why did the makers even adapt this novel? Both the leads in the novel are insufferable and foolish. The FL doesn't have much self-respect, while the ML has a "princess syndrome," where he can't even use a washing machine. The ML treats the FL like a housemaid—this arrogant bastard—and the FL is so saintly that she does it for a measly 300 yuan a quarter. I still don't understand why they should have a romantic relationship at all. Before reading the novel, I thought it had great potential for a drama and was really excited for it, but after reading it, I don’t have high hopes anymore.

But wouldn't that be like other dramas where the relationship starts with hate? I believe they did a good job…
It does seem fast, but I think the flashback hints that they had some connection from childhood, which explains why the ML was already into her. It’s like they’re picking up where they left off, so I guess the feelings didn’t need time to develop—they were already there!

How's the schedule when will it finish ?
Every day we will get 2 episodes and it will finish on 3rd November. But I believe we will get express on 31st October so for VIP members it will end on 31st October.

I really love the schedule of this drama. No single episodes spread over 3 to 4 days, and we know when to expect the drama to end without any schedule changes.

But wouldn't that be like other dramas where the relationship starts with hate? I believe they did a good job of breaking the preconceived trope.

Guys, One of the writers of this drama also wrote Love of Panacea, which was a disappointing drama. I hope this one is better.

Zeng Shunxi? really? he has such a baby face. I think he looks appropriate for his age. The ML from The double…
Elvis Han is definitely 🔥! I completely agree. I’ve seen Fake It Till You Make It, and it’s one of my favorites too. I really loved how mature and realistic the relationship was portrayed in that drama—it stood out for sure!

Title Go Back Lover Spoiler
Can anyone spoil on the FL's attitude/actions towards the relationship with ML in the last 5-6 episodes. Because…
Let me say something that might be a spoiler. The FL proposes to the ML for marriage in the last episode, which shows her change in behavior toward him. While the character development isn’t completely satisfying, it’s still better than what we’ve seen this year.

Omg the drama! If people still wonder why FL doesn’t want to get married, this episode is the perfect explanation.…
Yeah, all the episodes are out, so definitely avoid spoilers until you finish! I’ll leave it at that and let you watch it without giving anything away. I wasn’t completely satisfied with the FL’s development, but it’s still better than a lot of the FLs I’ve seen this year. I’m curious to hear your thoughts once you’re done. And I agree—the second couple? Way better off separated. Their dynamic just felt too toxic for me. Enjoy the rest of the drama!

I put it on hold at ep 12. Should I skip 13-17 and watch ep 18? Will I miss anything major? I really want to give…
I think you should still watch them, but if it's boring, you can speed it up by watching at 1.5x or 2x. The FL’s character development really starts from that point and you will miss some imp plot points if you skip that.

Omg the drama! If people still wonder why FL doesn’t want to get married, this episode is the perfect explanation.…
I get what you're saying about the writers taking baby steps, and you're right—up to episode 18, she doesn't seem very self-aware. Maybe the slow pace is intentional to show her gradual journey toward that realization. I actually skipped to the last episode just to see the ending, and without giving away spoilers, I saw a somewhat satisfying character development from the FL. She did something I’ve been wanting from an FL in many dramas! But I agree the writers took too long to get there. Also, the 2FL felt really toxic to me, which added to my frustrations.
