Good for you...? like I said, personally, it takes me out of the story. Characters are what they need to be and are often very similar from one drama to another but the face changes so the acting and delivery also. But when one actress keeps portraying the same type of FL, the lines get blurry and it's just a repeat after repeat. I don't like it.
No hate at all but Wu Jin Yan plays the same character everytime she's in a period drama. The acting is the same, the delivery is the same, the characters are loud the same, their personalities are similar. She's portraying the same "strong female lead" over and over again. She's being type casted and it ruins the story for me. It doesn't help that both leads don't have good chemistry (though I don't think she has good chemistry with most of her costars anyway). It's a shame because I have been waiting for an emperor centered story and the costumes are really pretty. The writing is also lacking and slow for no reasons. The writers fell into the same trap than most with their "strong female lead" by having her do/say things that she shoulnd't even be able to do/say considering her status, all to just uplift her and show how capable and smart she is. What do you mean you're going to use the emperor ? hello ? you were so very scared of the stupid governor of Shazhou but you're going to use the emperor ? ... like.
The story was of course predictable and the wrting not perfect but it's never a problem when it's all released in the same day. It can then deliver exactly what it should : entertainment. Weekly release pushes you to dwell on the imperfections of the story and it ruins the experience. Many Kdrama should opt for a one time release, they would do better in numbers I think if people don't have the time to think about all the flaws in the writing.
The plot twist about the pond spirit not existing is nice summary of most historical kdramas : when it comes to the throne, fratricide is never not an option. I assume the studio hoped it could do well and add another season considering the ending and the unresolved story with the supreme spirit or whatever it is
lmaooo are we supposed to pretend like talking about getting married after a few days of dating is not something that would weird out/scare women away ?? she actually said yes HAHAHAHA I get that it's a mature romance so that topic could come up because they are adults but let's chill here for a second, this is ridiculous. I'd be less severe if they had a reeeeally passionate relationship but please, they look like robots together. Every moment that leads to a kiss is so awkward, so stiff, so not natural. I thought we would see a different version of the characters when in a RS compared to their composed version at work, but they are very boring.
If they were going to have the ML be a divorcee, might as well do it properly and give him a proper mariage instead of this farce of a mariage where his wife was away the entire time, and they divorced after one year. Being in a RS with a divorcee when your were never married is a real topic, here they just used the easy road for the sake of lazy writing by making it very short. He explains the story and you're like "that's it? thats the mariage he had?". The conversion about how ML got married and how they got divorced arrived way too late in the RS, it's the first thing FL should have inquired about or ML should have talked about himself, especially since the ex wife is in the same company as them. Mature romance but no mature character in sight. They didn't adress it so they could use it as an excuse for the mid show typical "break up" or whatever tension they tried to throw in the RS. It's BS writing.
The sad backstory of the ML serves as an excuse to have the FL pity him without it ever being used as a way to give more depth to the ML. You get married, you wife leaves, your dad leaves, your mom dies, your wife comes back and she serves you with divorce papers, all in one year. If anything the mid season "break up" should have come from BOTH of them. Ml with his trauma and shit, fear of abandonement and whatelse. But since they were so focus on having the FL be the lead scared of being with "a divorcee", they decided to never give a bit of depth to the ML. Fun fact : both can happen at the same time, shocking right ?
I'll pass on the dumb "exposing our RS that's probably not sanctionned since he's my boss just to kill a rumour about him" part
Anyway, kdrama writing will never cease to make me write complaints, that's the fun part of it I guess.
