The girl gets pregnant with the boy. The boy pressures the girl into keeping it but it's all supposed to be viewed through a romantic light. They have no money or jobs. Their dads raised them by themselves and worked hard every day so that the kids would be well supported. Then these kids decide to keep the baby and make a very childish plan that involves having their dads pay for them to have a place to live. The boy drops out of school to work crappy jobs when both the girl and the boy are the top two in the school who previously had plans to go to top universities and become doctors. If it weren't for the help of their parents, there's no way in hell they'd be able to go to college or support themselves and it screams selfish teenagers who don't have a clue but are acting like they do. If these kids want to make adult decisions, then they should act like adults and support themselves.

But it's all supposed to be viewed through this idealistic lens, that everything is going to work out as planned and their love is enough to keep it all together. It's very naive and reminds me of so many young adult shows and books and it's quite annoying to watch when you're in your twenties so I skipped like the last 1/4 of their storyline. It was making me sour towards the drama so I'm glad I skipped it because I loved all of the other episodes.

If you're younger you'll probably enjoy it. When I was a kid watching Glee and other shows where teenagers get pregnant I was empathetic. But I'm grown now lmao, I empathize with the dads far more. Especially the girl's dad, he didn't deserve it.

Is YCY confirmed? Ngl I really hope they get someone else. These are high quality production dramas and a FL with high acting skills should be chosen. YCY is beautiful but she should really do some more supporting roles to improve imo.

Liu Shishi is such a classic beauty, she looks amazing in costume dramas.

Not technically her first costume drama but it is the first one where she has a more prominent role. She had a small part in Let's Shake It.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't TMOPB the most viewed Chinese drama? If it isn't now it was at one point. I know Yang Mi was already popular and had a large amount of work under her belt, but none of her other dramas have reached the same level of popularity.

You're not Arab so you don't have a right to request or deny an apology as it's not your culture. If you're a fan of the show that's one thing and I'm not saying you or anyone has to or should boycott it, but the way so many of you are going around and slamming people for being genuinely upset is pretty gross.

Of course, to say that such behavior is nonexistent is rather silly. People from any culture aren't only one way, there is bound to be good and bad everywhere.

There's no way to tell yet. Dramas have been cancelled in the past for offending the audience (Joseon Exorcist). But I doubt this drama will face any actual ramifications. If it's not from a "trendy" culture or country, no one gives a shit.

It's okay I appreciate the response. I guess my argument would be though is that it's actual Arab people who are upset about this and us foreigners who are neither Korean or Arab don't really have any stakes in this. We don't understand if or how it is offensive because it's specific to their culture. Sure, anomalies may exist. But I think the people upset at such a portrayal are justified.

Another issue is the hypocrisy with it being a Korean drama portraying another culture in a such a generalized/offensive light. Korean netizens are notoriously sensitive and aggressive when it comes to defending their culture. If another country were to make a drama or movie and portrayed Koreans in a similar way, there would definitely be boycott and international fans would white knight them.

"Rules for thee but not for me" is how I'm seeing this and I don't think that's right.

I'm not 100% sure what your point is so correct me if I'm misunderstanding. But a government banning lgbt media is not the same as fans being offended for a racist portrayal no? I don't think they should be compared.

China? They totally ban lgbt media. They've even recently cracked down on men just looking androgynous in the media. What was the last Chinese drama you watched that was bl or gl that had an actual kiss or any skinship whatsoever? Then compare that to the skinship in hetero romances.

Just as a note, I have not watched this drama and I'm not sure if I will with all things considered. People upset are honestly justified. I saw someone else say that Koreans would be extremely offended if a Korean person was being represented in this way and they're absolutely correct. K-netizens would be OUTRAGED if it was the other way around.

Again, I haven't seen it. Maybe it isn't actually that bad. But if Korean people were being depicted this way in another country's drama, they would totally boycott it. And I have a feeling all of the international fans of this drama would boycott as well. But for some reason it's okay when Korean dramas do this?
