beautifully crafted, 99.9% of dramas that uses 21:9 or any ultra wide aspect ratio (black bars top and bottom of the screen) are suffocating and feels like the shots are unnatural, they use that aspect ratio to make it "mOrE CiNeMatIc" but not this one, some shots are breathtakingly beautiful and accomodate for the extra space on either side of the screen.
I know this drama is inherently full of cliché no worries, but it went absolutely ridiculous from epsode 19-20, nothing absolutely nothing make sense, they're all clichés but unlike the rest of the show they're horrendously timed and executed
this should have love triangle tag all over it, almost every single conflict or misunderstanding is started or based on the fact some side character liking one of the mains.
what a horrible outdated drama, every single person is a walking trope, not real people, they were born and survived in the glorious People's Republic of China just to exist and die of old age as tropes. the moment any single character utter a single line, you can understand their whole personality and their end game. I wasted 7 episodes for nothing.
I still can't get enough of that drunkard zhizhi episode, Lu si's acting was perfect, by far the best, the cutest and the purest drunk performance I've ever seen across all major drama countries, nothing comes close to it
a masterpiece, that episode 6 is a chef d'oeuvre. the ML is such a complex multi layered character, such a unique character that I've never came across before.
I'm not familiar with C-drama and I come from a comletely different culture yet this show sent me 16 years back down the memory lane, its sweet, nostalgic and wholesome, I'm 32yo and I was smiling almost the whole time watching this. also Zaizai is an bomb of energy, she's absolutely relentless in every single good way possible.
an absolute masterpiece, I love how the characters are actual human beings multidimensional and rational, not pieces of puzzle to drive a specific arc in the plot (no villain, no stupid comic relief, no love triangle guy etc) even the cliché arcs like parents approval/dissaproval and misunderstandings were handled like real world, rationally and humanely. ALSO Sang Zhi is an irresistible blob of cuteness and purity
its sweet, its fluffy, its wholesome but its one dimensional even for its tone, there's absolutely no conflict or bad events, I don't even remember anyone getting angry or jealous or showing any kind of negative behaviour everybody acts like they're saints which made it boring and monotone, conflicts resolved themselves without even the people inflicted by them its weird and unrealistic to say the least. and episodes ends in the most abrupt way
its such an outdated drama, the "bad" people live breath and act all their whole lives as "bad" people, they don't have an ounce of humanity or whatsoever. they are there to drive forward the plot which seemed to be lost without their over the top inhumane behaviour.
I love how healthy, cute and honest with each others they are especially in the first half when they started to build their relationship, they talk about their feelings and plan while healing together, its a good drama even it stalled and lost its way in like ep9 to 11-12
I find it disturbing. It seems to be a fetish in most Asian dramas. Like toxic parents are necessary for shows…
Its wild how normalized being a toxic parent is in asian drama. story wise sanha and his dad are the luckiest people, they found the best neighbour on earth who saved their lives from going astray

I'm sorry I didn't mean to spoil anything to you, hope I didn't make your experience worse. YES redemption requires accountability, effort, and actual change, you put it perfectly!! Sadly I didn't see any glimpse of it.

I only watches jdrama and kdrama but I agree both have that "fetish", Sanha's mother is the worst I've ever seen, while she's not guilty, she's partially responsible for her daughter death, she went on to harrass her son for 20 years while disregarding her other daughter who just lost her dad like she didn't even gave birth to her, and tried to end herself just to guilt trip her son, but all is well because that son somehow misunderstood his mom and remembered how she took care of him when he had cold once and said sorry while she cried on the other side of the door, everything is forgotten and she can move on with her life and enjoy the rest of it with no repercussions. I really not sure what's the lesson from sanha's mom story except, its totally okay to be more toxic than 1986 chernobyl reactor and ruin 2 families for 20+years as long as you're a mom and can cry
