i decided to take a few days to just digest everything I loved and hated about this drama before i typed this up. because of the current situation the entire world is in, mr. queen is exactly the kind of "pick me up" that i needed. it has drama, comedy (lots of it!), romance, and sageuk. i gave this drama a chance because i adored kim junghyun's character in cloy and saw his potential. i've only seen one other work of shin hyesun which is stranger and even so, i hardly remember her in it. despite this, i ultimately stayed for the characters. the main leads and supporting characters just felt.....so right. never found a dull moment. from byungin's geniune love for soyong, hwajin's desire to be loved by cheoljong, to the power trip and manipulation between the two clashing clans; this drama did well in dealing with intense moments and bringing it back down with a comedic resolution. overall 9/10. (the ost boosted this from an 8.5. "here i am" just hits so hard).
despite a lot of divided opinions about the ending,
forced myself to stop watching after ep 16 just so i could binge watch the last four episodes (+spin off) all in one sitting. i still cannot believe i finished the 1st to 16th ep in ONE day. this drama is just so good holy shit
this was a good 9.5/10 for me. if you're hesitating to start, just go for it. you'll be hooked from the get go and would be looking forward to seeing park mujin grow as the acting president.
clearly they'll continue this when tokyo olympics happen in the future (maybe???) but i definitely enjoyed this more than the actual series for some reason
at first i was shocked at how low the rating is because i absolutely enjoyed this drama, but some of the comments below brought up great plot holes that were never touched on or clarified well enough. the major problem is her active role as a mother. too little scenes proved to watchers that xunxun was trying her best to be a working mom. overall 8.5/10. extra half point for the ending scene. i liked how she's taking it slow instead of rushing and have obviously learned from her past.
it's hard to relate to the three brothers on a personal level because i'm an only child, but despite the main obstacle of the drama, i felt the genuine emotions and hardships they shared. i would have given a higher rating if we got more scenes of the main couple together plus a good ost (they didn't have any on the site i watched it on). overall 8/10! did not know misaki and chiaki got married in real life omg
it truly has been awhile since i enjoyed a good mbc drama and it's from years back. don't know how i missed this gem. it has everything i could ask for. 9/10
not gonna lie, this drama surprised me. it really took me some time to appreciate sehee's aloof and eccentric self along with the "flat" acting, but it makes sense (if you stick around until the end). i also absolutely adored the frequent reference to book quotes! makes me want to open a book once in a while. given that i'm only in my early 20's and hold different views at the moment, if I reach my 30's, I would like to rewatch this and see if/how my views have changed or if/how they align with the characters maybe then it will make me come to appreciate the drama a little bit more. overall 8.5/10. park byungeun is a scene stealer!
definitely think there are better contract relationship dramas out there, but what sets this drama apart from the rest is the chemistry between the main leads and supporting roles. the siblings supporting each other as they each venture into the world knowing more about themselves is truly heartwarming. honored to say that this was the first drama i finished to kick off my 2021. overall i wouldn't give it anything above an 8/10.
what a nice set of balanced characters! i think think the four of them did really well expressing emotions and bouncing off each others' roles. it was so pleasant to watch kiki go though her character development and not lose her determination and persistence. although, i would have given a higher rating if we got more scenes of the main leads together, but nonetheless it was a sweet (no pun intended) drama for the holidays. overall 8/10.
the secondhand embarrassment hit me like a truck in the beginning, but lessened as the story progressed. this was a sweet and tooth-aching treat. 8.5/10
sometimes one just needs to watch a feel good, cliché, and predictable drama once in a while and that is exactly mystic pop-up bar.
compared to what i've read from comments below, i did appreciate the shortness of this drama compared to the typical length of a kdrama. with that, it felt very fast paced for me (which i usually don't like, but it didn't feel rushed--the pacing was just perfect) and i got eager to reach the predictable ending. i liked how most of the side stories didn't exceed over one episode (kind of) and deviate from the main story. ngl, i did enjoy the story from the past more, but the quirkiness of the trio will make one invested on the present day as they try to beat the clock to resolve their inner grudges. i hold hotel del luna close to my heart and i saw similar elements in this drama which i absolutely adore. overall 9/10.
finally decided to give this a try after the hype kinda died down. wanted to body slam every main and supporting characters at one point (especially you, jo yiseo). imo it had such a great potential, but kind of dragged out towards the end? i really think it could’ve ended at least two eps less. overall 8/10. lowkey wanted to see more of park bogum’s scenes, but nobody heard that from me.
