I feel like this show suffered from censorship as well. They couldn't probably show what they wanted so they implied…
OMG I also wanted to comment to say that I love your profile picture and username, too good? That's so true, the way they mirror each other is so creepy - as someone commented before, it's almost like a villian origin story for ZCY's future self aka ZDS.
Having read through the comments here, it really does seem like the story is trying to show mental powerplay/war between ZCY and ZDS, and in the end ZCY comes out on top being the only one left alive having manipulated ZDS and poor pupu and yanliang. Looking back at the cute scenes where the kids were playing, I'm starting to feel a lil disgusted by how smart and sociopathic that little ZCY was... makes me want to prefer the 'fairytale' ending and not the real ending lol!
I finished this drama and was confused by the ending but after reading online interpretations by people who read…
Omg this analysis is ON POINT! You should add this to the review section too as someone mentioned, thank you for taking the time to write this out for us all!
"When Chaoyang kept repeatedly calling Yan Liang's name, the way that they filmed Yan Liang finding Chaoyang was really odd. It was almost ghost-like and unrealistic how he came over wordlessly and helped Chaoyang move the shelf to escape the factory"
^OMG I didn't even think about this until you mentioned it and it all makes sense now. I also wondered how the heck Yan Liang was able to appear out of the blue like that and was confused bc I thought DongSheng was trying to kill him off. I am thinking maybe this is where Yan Liang really died.. so sad
This is one of those dramas where you really have to pay attention to key details and may require a 2nd viewing, I feel like I've missed alot of little clues and hints! The attention to detail in this drama is SUBLIME!

It's crazy to think that ChaoYang is pretty much DongSheng's successor, and now that you mentioned the similarities between Dong Sheng pushing off his in laws to ChaoYang pushing his sister off the ledge I'm thinking this is more apparent than ever. At first, I thought it was Dong Sheng who was manipulating Chao Yang and the kids but turns out Chao Yang is the scary one who ends up being the one who outlived Dong Sheng and the two kids (if we go with the ending that they both died rip)...Like if Chao Yang is already on the path of succeeding Dong Sheng as the next sociopath, imagine how scary he will be when he reaches Dong Sheng's age.
What an absolute masterpiece of a drama - the way it explores the depths of humanity, family trauma, human psychology, and the morals of good vs evil was done so in such a subtle manner. Every scene and every episode contains so many details, I can't believe some viewers think there's filler content lmao you should try to re-watch to make sure you don't miss the easter eggs..
It's rare to come across a drama such as this in cdrama land but if this is what we'll be seeing in the coming years, I'm so excited for the future of cdrama. The cinematography was so well done, I'd compare certain shots to the likes of what I've seen on american tv shows like Ozark / Sharp Objects. The acting was also sublime and powerful - there was no weak link here as everyone brought powerhouse performances. If you decide to watch just ONE cdrama this year, make it this one - you won't regret it.
So this was essentially a villain origin story? Chao Yang literally got everyone killed but gets to live happily…
yes i agree, it's a villian origin story with chao yang proving to be the scariest of them all.. apparently the novel depicted chao yang as pure evil which is interesting! i'm so curious if they'll do a sequel or like a 'chao yang in 10 years' kinda thing to show how he progresses further into insanity and sociopathy
This was such an AMAZING AND EMPOWERING SHOW, I WISH MNET WOULD DO MORE OF THESE SHOWS?! loved the emphasis on teamwork, i think it's great that now mnet is moving away from pitting girls against each other ala unpretty rapstar and now focusing more on these kinds of uplifting GIRL POWER shows. each member showed amazing growth, esp Sleeq and Yeeun. Sleeq was such a powerhouse - despite others judging her in the early eps, she showed how flexible and adaptable she was as an artist.
The performances were all so strong and memorable, especially WITCH. I hope we can see more performances from these girlies at upcoming year end music shows. It's so beautiful to see how the girls got closer and at the same time, show their artistic growth. This is what shows should be about!! Clap clap for MNET
I'm on ep 10 and thinking of dropping? Maybe I should have watched this before nothing but thirty but finding it hard to care about the girls' arcs and kind of find that the obstacles and challenges they are facing are so trivial lol. I guess this is what it's like to be in our mid 20s but now that I'm entering my late 20s, I find the storyline and female characters more relatable in nothing but thirty.. On the plus side though, the guys in this drama are nicer and more likeable but the girls a bit more flawed and sometimes immature (even though understandable considering their age).
This Lin You You is so greedy and is definitely a psycho. She wanted to enter Gu Jia’s apartment by all means.…
That Lin You You reminded me of fatal attraction - I think psychologically she is unstable and something must have happen to her where she felt like she could just waltz into Gu Jia's life like that. I'm glad in the end she left the city but jfc good on Gu Jia for slapping the shiz outta her hoe ass
Ive watched first 10-13 eps for real but it never changed a bit it was just so depressing and gloomy. I waited…
I mean yes everyone is entitled to their opinion but I think that you should have stayed and watched the entire thing - the ladies experience a lot of growth with their identity and also with their relationships. The reason why it may be 'depressing' is because that's the reality of life - marriage is hard and you're gonna be faced with obstacles thrown your way. But I agree with @mazmariam that if you prefer more fluffy love stories, maybe stick with rom coms rather than mature dramas about life and marriage
The one thing XHS could have done for Gu Jia was sign thendivorce aggreement before telling her about the factory…
I agree! XHS was so selfish for not signing the divorce in time but I'm glad in the end that that he decided to mention divorce as he rots in Jail. As for Man Ni, she's such a confident and courageous woman!!! Proud of her and also proud that rather than living a comfortable life back home, she is eager to see more of the world and went to study in Europe. BTW i dont kno why chinese netizens hated her character so much, i loved her (they kept calling her Wang Money)
Just finished this amazingly well written and empowering drama and I feel so EMPTY. What do I watch next? I have watched them grow and battle so many obstacles and it felt so real - as if I was watching my own friends/sisters living their lives in Shanghai. Now that it's finished idk what to do with myself cricri
kind of wondering if i should continue, i'm on ep 6 and it is just SO melodramatic and over the top.. i know it's supposed to be a melo drama but you really have to suspend your disbelief bc some scenes are so unrealistic??? and also the characters are so tiring
An impeccably shot and extravagantly made movie that had me thinking about even days after I finished... this is an example as to why Korean Cinema is so strong these days. The love story here is sublime, cinematography is stunning, and the acting is amazing. It's not only a quality film but one that is a win for LGBTQ viewers
this movie was so moving, it was very interesting to see how the changes in china had an impact on the main family. i felt so bad for gong li though, she had to suffer so many tragedies :(
