yall is this drama worth watching solely for the female leads (chemistry, are they likeable?? lol) i have been reading that the plot is bad and lots of plot holes
Both FL leads really carry and act out their roles very well, chemistry is good between them.Shen siyi's partner…
agreed, aesthetically shen siyi looks the best with yao yan (even tho he was kind of creepy and overly aggressive at first) i still prefer him to that old 60 year old bai xiao chuan, literally what was the screen writer thinking pairing ice princess shen siyi with this old fart who looks like the uncle cooking up stir fry at your local panda express?
yup yup, lu ke's early partner was was type A toxic masculinity in a bottle and the other male is better but i sometimes see him more as a bro to lu ke. in the end, we all know siyi and lu ke have the best chemistry and the power this drama would hold if the screen writers went all the way to make it GL 3 could not agree more with guan yu, she is literally screaming at the clouds every 3 minutes and for what?
i'm 3/4 thru the drama and i love the fashion, shanghai backdrop, gorgeous cinematography, slice of life flow but the drama really could have been stronger if they just CUT OUT guan yu and maybe made it a 24 ep drama (and more focus on the 2 FLs)
girl it's still worth watching bc the GL vibes are strong and one of the leads is bi (apparently also the screenwriter did intend it to be GL but alas chinese c*nsorship). the chemistry between lu ke and si yi is chefs kiss
They gave a perfect closure Don’t understand why it received a lot of hates on Douban I enjoyed it 8.5/10 for…
me too, i definitely think it deserves a higher rating on douban (maybe the viewers were mad at the ending and/or at the cheating part lol)? even though it may have dragged a bit near the end, i loved the characterization and the girls were all really likeable and easy to relate to. just felt like i was watching my older sisters navigate life in shanghai and really rooted for them to be happy in the end
yes there is definitely strong female friendship/sismance here! not sure why it isn't tagged but it's pretty much 30s version of twenty your life on and i just loved the chemistry and bond the 3 female characters had. despite all the relationship and career problems they faced, loved that they all had each other for emotional support
Is this actually a censored gl or are people just saying it it?
honestly in some ways it's almost like a one sided GL from siyi's side? if you watch more you'll shes in love with her bestie lu ke but won't act on it bc shes afraid of losing her (plus siyi had a girlfriend in london and is probably bi). the emotional bond between the two girls is STRONG here and the chemistry is undeniable
Is there a episode that siyi and yao yuan breakup?
episode 11. they break up bc she realizes they're different people and isn't interested in marriage/kids and tbh i think she rly only sees him as a FWB/fun distraction lool
Oof, this is what I get for hanging around on weibo before watching the episode. They get stuff ahead of time,…
omg these clips, thank u for sharing lmao. btw so im a few eps in and it is so obvious that Si Yi is in love with Lu Ke like esp with the gift giving, the way she looks at her, the way she acts around her it's def more than friends....and to think miss si yi ends up kissing that mans yao yuan later? i feel like si yi and yao yuan have NO chemistry and she's just doing charity by giving him attention?
the starting was great & the pacing was good too the plot had a lot of potential but at the end there were WAT…
RIGHT? like one thing I don't get is why did young angela bb decide to just leave her bro and the doctor to stab the dad, and after all that she thinks the only way to 'keep her bro safe' is to stay away from her bro?? also i dont get why the doctor got so involved with the two kids and gave up her career for that like make it make sense...
and don't even get me started on the last ep, how the HALE did that girl just watch it all unfold like that in the vent like. and the investigators didn't notice that she was hint forcefully by a blunt object? plus the dad been trapped for MONTHS how does he have that much energy to pull that murder off LMAOOO
The 1st half was strong but the later half was filled with too many plot holes and became way too convoluted! While it was interesting to show unreliable narrators, it's illogical that the sociopathic dad got away with that much and some of the twists could have been pulled off better. I also think that they should have casted someone other than AngelaBB in her role. She was decent but the drama would have fared better with someone who could bring complexity and nuance to the role, considering the heavy trauma she went through.
With that said, I do love the social commentary on women and domestic abuse - it's something you don't see often in c-dramas. I especially loved what the female detective said in the last ep when they were talking about sexual assault: "The men are wrongdoers but why is the blame always on the women".
All in all, it's a decent suspense c-drama but The Bad Kids is better written and a much more gripping mystery/crime thriller if that's what you're looking for.
I feel like this show suffered from censorship as well. They couldn't probably show what they wanted so they implied…
OMG I also wanted to comment to say that I love your profile picture and username, too good? That's so true, the way they mirror each other is so creepy - as someone commented before, it's almost like a villian origin story for ZCY's future self aka ZDS.
Having read through the comments here, it really does seem like the story is trying to show mental powerplay/war between ZCY and ZDS, and in the end ZCY comes out on top being the only one left alive having manipulated ZDS and poor pupu and yanliang. Looking back at the cute scenes where the kids were playing, I'm starting to feel a lil disgusted by how smart and sociopathic that little ZCY was... makes me want to prefer the 'fairytale' ending and not the real ending lol!
I finished this drama and was confused by the ending but after reading online interpretations by people who read…
Omg this analysis is ON POINT! You should add this to the review section too as someone mentioned, thank you for taking the time to write this out for us all!
"When Chaoyang kept repeatedly calling Yan Liang's name, the way that they filmed Yan Liang finding Chaoyang was really odd. It was almost ghost-like and unrealistic how he came over wordlessly and helped Chaoyang move the shelf to escape the factory"
^OMG I didn't even think about this until you mentioned it and it all makes sense now. I also wondered how the heck Yan Liang was able to appear out of the blue like that and was confused bc I thought DongSheng was trying to kill him off. I am thinking maybe this is where Yan Liang really died.. so sad
This is one of those dramas where you really have to pay attention to key details and may require a 2nd viewing, I feel like I've missed alot of little clues and hints! The attention to detail in this drama is SUBLIME!

It's crazy to think that ChaoYang is pretty much DongSheng's successor, and now that you mentioned the similarities between Dong Sheng pushing off his in laws to ChaoYang pushing his sister off the ledge I'm thinking this is more apparent than ever. At first, I thought it was Dong Sheng who was manipulating Chao Yang and the kids but turns out Chao Yang is the scary one who ends up being the one who outlived Dong Sheng and the two kids (if we go with the ending that they both died rip)...Like if Chao Yang is already on the path of succeeding Dong Sheng as the next sociopath, imagine how scary he will be when he reaches Dong Sheng's age.
What an absolute masterpiece of a drama - the way it explores the depths of humanity, family trauma, human psychology, and the morals of good vs evil was done so in such a subtle manner. Every scene and every episode contains so many details, I can't believe some viewers think there's filler content lmao you should try to re-watch to make sure you don't miss the easter eggs..
It's rare to come across a drama such as this in cdrama land but if this is what we'll be seeing in the coming years, I'm so excited for the future of cdrama. The cinematography was so well done, I'd compare certain shots to the likes of what I've seen on american tv shows like Ozark / Sharp Objects. The acting was also sublime and powerful - there was no weak link here as everyone brought powerhouse performances. If you decide to watch just ONE cdrama this year, make it this one - you won't regret it.
So this was essentially a villain origin story? Chao Yang literally got everyone killed but gets to live happily…
yes i agree, it's a villian origin story with chao yang proving to be the scariest of them all.. apparently the novel depicted chao yang as pure evil which is interesting! i'm so curious if they'll do a sequel or like a 'chao yang in 10 years' kinda thing to show how he progresses further into insanity and sociopathy
