Forgive my ignorance, I haven’t read the novel yet but from watching the raw episodes, what is up with Yun he’s stepfather? Is it her adopted father or what? Why is he torturing her with the cold spell? I don’t understand that. Every time she did something good, she got punished? Please help explain this to me? I couldn’t watch those scenes at all. It’s so heartbreaking with such abusive relationship.

Oh my god. It’s so funny when he was trying to explain himself to Lin Zhixiao his relationship with Dr. Gao. She just looked at him, dumbfounded, and he keeps on trying again, but she said she understands him yet said that she will try not to spread rumors, babahaha. Then, he hinted that he wants to be spoiled like how her father with her mother, then she gave him an unexpected answer again, “Do you want to be sick?” Bahahha. Oh my God, they are killing me with their conversations. They are so cute and progress so awkwardly, yet realistically enough. I love their chemistry. I am so glad this CP finally get a chance to shine together. I cannot wait for their further development and upcoming kissing scenes!!!! Their love storyline for this rom com short drama series is sweet and full of meaningful messages. They are each other’s saviors, taking care of each other in ways they are yet aware ❤️💕

I almost dropped the drama due to Yang Yang’s “bland” expression like you said here. I am same as you finding his acting isn’t up to par with his popularity. Maybe Love 020 did make him one of the hottest star but seriously, his acting is lacking. Maybe he will prove me wrong with “Who rules the world” series.

I find this chemistry, between Yang Zhi and Xiao Zhan, are more natural in term of being a stranger to slowly developing into relationship. This couple feels more natural than Yang Yang and Dilraba in “You are my glory”. I am excited to see their development further. All these are famous actors / actresses due to their popularity. But their actings really matter a lot. Maybe I am biased more towards these two (Yang Zhi and Xiao Zhan) bc of their hit drama, Ashes of Love and The Untamed, but I don’t feel too much vibes with the other two during their run even though their chemistry was supposed to be off-the-chart and on-fire passionated on- screen couple. I feel too much of fangirling/old crush love there. She was already deep in a hole falling for Yu Tu (Yang Yang’s character) so the rest of the story isn’t challenging for me with their everyday’s struggles esp. come to finding love. Is it just me?!

Xiao Zhan’s acting of various emotions really nail it with complexity here, serious yet funny as he keeps bumping into Yan Zhi’s character, even with just his eyes (something about his eyes!) - this is so different with other characters he had played. Not so used to see him so serious yet funny at the same time!

Thanks for your thorough detailed comments and explanations. If it is the case, then we still have yet to discover her true character, which is mysterious to me still. Your comments make senses to me with their tug-and-pull game esp cold shoulder / hot passionate stares love. I can feel their desires for each other but some of these historical dragging-on storyline annoy me a lot. Yanxi palace took forever too but side stories of scheming and elimination games are more interesting than introduction of food all the time, lol. I like to know more about the King’s cousin, You YiFan. Now that’s an interesting character to explore!!!

I am starting to wonder the same as you. Why they even called it main leads when you barely have any screen times…making no sense to me. As much as I appreciate the Chinese cuisines, I am having a headache looking at these food and frustrated that I cannot taste them. I get these food are for royalty, but are they even accessible for common people like you and me esp in modern time?! I like to know bc it’s not even funny anymore as I keep seeing all these displays during dinner time on my end.

I was going to say the same as you. I cannot stand it at this point. What’s with her attitude towards him. Always quiet, showing no affection, and has no intention to go to him for peace. Did they even consummated on their marriage?

I agree with @sonderyugen here. Her feelings with the current King is not cleared for us all to see. Why did she even care to flirt with him in the beginning. He did say to her, “you used me” and took the initiative to approach me etc. if it was just curiosity then she could have stopped bothering him during the time she was a maid by not intentionally coming to his study constantly…she got his attention for sure but that’s not the way to being hot then cold then whatever afterwards…not too cool on my end. Her character is definitely smart and sure knows how to work with people, but treating him like that is unfair just bc her mother died and her life was just to be his wife and raised on how to revolve around him. She resented him for it?! Common. You knew this would happen though.

I don’t understand the relationship between the King Zhanji and Zijin now. Their romance is a slow burn for sure but even at 29 episodes, they still play this game of “tuck and pull”? Why is she not being affectionate towards him? Her acting cold and hard to get is annoying at another level.
