An Intense and Thrilling Ride

Maybe it's because I'm biased toward Ma Xiao Yu, but I truly enjoy watching his dramas. No matter what role he takes on, he plays it exceptionally well. However, I just can’t get enough of him in the crazy roles—he brings such intensity and life to those characters. This particular role is undoubtedly one of the wildest I’ve seen him portray.

The character of Song Cha was incredibly intense. His determination and persistence in his quest for love were palpable. On a rational and logical level, I saw all the red flags waving in my face as I watched, but the irrational and crazy side of me couldn’t help but relish in how he stopped at nothing to get the woman he wanted. I empathized with him, knowing this was his first time ever falling in love. Watching him navigate his feelings was like watching a baby attempt adulthood—he was trying to make both himself and the woman he loved happy, yet he didn’t realize he was making her more and more miserable.

My sympathy for him grew as I learned about his harsh and bloody upbringing, where no one taught him love, kindness, or compassion. He only knew how to take what he wanted without remorse, regardless of who he hurt along the way.

It wasn't until he met Wan Ni that he learned, through the harshest lessons, what it meant to truly love and be loved genuinely. Despite his status, he was ready to die for her, to kneel and face humiliation for her. His love was so possessive and intense that it’s no wonder Wan Ni was terrified. Any rational woman would have feared getting consumed by such a dark and endless abyss of pain and suffering.

Chu Xuan is so good! I love her acting, and it was good to see her playing this role. I admire her character, Wan Ni’s strength. She fought against him with all her might and never allowed anyone, especially Song Cha, to walk over her. Though she had him wrapped around her finger the entire time, she never took advantage of it—her strong, kind, and level-headed nature wouldn’t allow it. Especially since she wanted nothing related to him in the first place.

As time passed, I believe Wan Ni began to see through Song Cha’s madness. Despite his obsessive nature, she saw glimpses of the man beneath the terrifying façade. While the world painted him as a monster, he showed a different side to her—a man desperate for love, even if his methods were twisted. Ultimately, his relentless efforts paid off, leading her to fall for this domineering and frightening man.

Wan Ni’s influence changed him for the better, and his willingness to transform himself for her showed just how powerful love can be.
