I just rewatched this and I have to say, I probably like it even better now than I did the first time around. Even though there are chaebols and other typically Korean drama tropes, it somehow appears to me to be one of the more realistic Korean dramas. So it is not kitchen sink but we also don't have amnesia, murder or over the top manipulative parents etc, and the key for me, is that the development of the four main characters feels real , given some dramatic license. They are flawed people making mistakes, some small and some huge causing confusion, pain and heartache. Is there a chance for redemption? Well, you will have to watch yourself to find out. I would certainly recommend it.
PS: I would like to recommend the recaps from dramabeans, to go along when you watch, since the translations there make a lot more sense and really help you to understand where the characters are coming from.
Wow, it appears she literally plays the opposite of her real live character in her latest. In real life she married the big cheese, for what ? Looking good, recognition, money and fame despite of his flaws including seducing and courting other women whilst she was pregnant with his child. What a gent? I actually like her as an actress. I just wish she would chuck that idiot of a husband aside and move on to better things. He obviously does not deserve her and she can do better..
Ahh, I watched the entirety of this because of Baron Chen, Wow, that guy is so good looking. As for the story, I would really like to know what gay peeps think about this. The notion that one can love and be physically attracted to anybody regardless of gender, whilst nice in theory, goes against my understanding of hetro and homo-sexuallity. I suppose Baron Chen 's character could have been bi - sexual from the get go but that aspect was never explored. Moreover, as I said above, whilst the notion that one can love regardless of gender is great, it adversely implies that people have a choice in their sexuality.

Thank you so much. He most certainly ought to be added to the list of actors, he was amazing. Moreover, I agree, unfortunately the majority of viewers just want to oogle good looking idols. It is a real shame because a lot of great dramas and brilliant versatile actors are ignored. I wish I could speak or at least understand Mandarin but I don't so it looks like I will not be able to watch the series you recommended since nobody has subbed it. It certainly sounds very interesting and I love most things historical but as you said only certain series seem to get translated unfortunately not based on the quality of the of the programme but instead on the supposed draw of idols. If ever you feel like translating ''The Red'' I promise that,I will translate it into German . How about it?
Does anybody know who the actor who plays the emperor is? I think it is a shame that he is not listed since he did a brilliant job portraying the most ambivalent and complex character in the series.
It is also available on dramacool with subtitles, if you don't want to download.
You had me scared there for a minute since I have yet to watch this but I double checked and even though Dramacool has moved, it's still there. It is just entitled 'Great King Sejong' rather than 'The .... ' . The new link is http://dramacool.cc/drama-detail/great-king-sejong .
