He does grow a sort of backbone but it does happen a bit late, abt 90+ iirc.Skip through the mid section, drama…
Yea, I can sorta understand that too, their relationship was a bit weird to say the least. But tbh i skipped most of that stuff.

ML and FL chemistry, on the other hand, was just amazing. Especially the FL's character, rarely have I seen such a well written female lead.

Some sibling moments were real good too, like the one where they welcomed FL into family with a red carpet and paintings, amazing direction and cinematography.

Sadly we do need to push/skip through some boring stuff here and there to reach that 😂

Is running away and disappearing a Korean cultural thing? Our it’s just a Kdrama plot device?? Just asking for…
In drama, its a needless angst creator. In real life, its just blatant cowardice or disloyalty.
In both realms, I don't think such people deserve any affection or even association.

Not a korean tbh, but I think the logic is valid everywhere

Worst ML ever, i watched like 60 episodes hoping he would grow a backbone but.. it could've been a good drama…
He does grow a sort of backbone but it does happen a bit late, abt 90+ iirc.

Skip through the mid section, drama is really good once you reach the later half.

Was this draggy?
Iirc, first few one weren't but later ones were? Anyways,I don't remember much since been too long since I watched this.

People have gone bonkers rating this gem a 7.8.

Such a well written story and characterization is rarely seen. Also no filler content, zero. Smart, to the point, compact and precise, as it should be.

9/10 for me, would have been a 9.5 if not for some needless ideological dialogues in that last episode.

Was this draggy?
Yep, but not as much compared to some other lakorns iirc. I always end up skipping some scenes in lakorns though.

I think I was looking for something unconventional when I watched this and I think this delivered a bit on that.

Review Star's Lover
Quite as astute analysis. I felt same too and that led me to drop the drama early on. It was really fatiguing to continue watching these beggars. I just wish, that you dropped your rating a bit more lower.

Title Ugly Alert
First 7 episodes are absolute gem, like 10/10 level gems!

But afterwards I felt a lack of pace overall and this turning into a usual melodrama kdrama at moments. Lot of irrelevant characters are introduced too and they keep on wasting a lot of screen time needlessly. Let me just list the characters here

Lawyer Whatever: No not interested in your motivations, story or whatever, go waste someone else's time please.
FL's Father: Okay be happy with your love life but we are not interested in watching you, please.
ML's Sister's Boyfriend's Mother: Yep.......Not interested at all!
FL's Aunt or Uncle: Why should we even care?!

And there are many more!

The best part about this drama was family dynamics and romance. I want to watch this family who had to go through so much ordeal. They have so much history and so many misunderstandings about each other. They long for each other yet are unable to convey. I want to watch them. I also want to watch how FL heals ML from his past scars, or how they they go about accepting each other. I want to watch all this but not these irrelevant characters who have minimal connect whatsoever to the original storyline.

The first 7 episodes were 10/10.
The later parts when focusing on ML, FL or ML's two sisters or brother are 9-9.5/10, Rest 6/10.
The whole business stuff 4/10.
I have not completed the drama completely so I don't how I will rate this finally, but if these irrelevant characters keep on wasting screen time, expect about 7-7.5/10.

EDIT: Update 1

Getting further in I still don't like irrelevant character sections, but every single scene of ML with FL or ML with his brother or two sisters is just so emotional and wholesome that I need to revise my ratings, fast! Also really starting to like FL's sister, the one trying to win over ML's brother.
Updated rating, 8.5/10

EDIT: Update 2

I absolutely love the FL but ML's cowardice and lack of confidence is getting a bit tiresome, its extended beyond reason tbh.

EDIT: Update 3

Completed it. It was a good watch. ML was a bit pathetic at points but he grows a backbone later on. I think a lot of the story, though extended, is about his character development. The romance and chemistry were awesome and I also got a bit interested into the sidestory developments I was calling irrelevant earlier.

Some truly gem moments, like absolute 10/10 heartfelt and emotions inducing moments, come really later on, like in 90+ episode points. I completed a few other drama too while completing this lol. I would suggest people getting bored to skip through most of mid half. The first and last section combined is easily 9-9.5/10.

Final Updated rating 8/10

Ok skipped ahead to see if this gets any better.

Haaah, what do I say, there are good moments here and there but FL's idiocy will keep on getting worse. She will mess up every single situation, mangle it, distort it and then leave the spaghetti of a mess for viewers to watch and get annoyed with. Both ML and FL think they are smart, actually they are both beyond DUMB! af.

Somebody called this dumb and dumber in comments below.....atleast dumb and dumber was funny....

Now I need to watch something sensible to clear my head.
On Birth of a Beauty May 6, 2024
Started watching this but going into episode 2.....FL is beyond foolish.

Okay outer looks aside but this level of naivety make me question, don't you deserve whatever is happening to you? If you don't learn from you own miseries that others created for you, do you even deserve to be saved?

Already I know I will have hard time continuing this, I don't like idiocy manufactured for the sake of stretching the plot.
On Business Proposal May 6, 2024
It was a good drama, but webtoon didn't have a lot of these forced kdrama tropes iirc and was better overall imo.

I don't think there was a long wait/separation trope in end in webtoon. Nor was there an angry rich grandfather trope iirc. Grandfather was supportive of their relationship throughout in webtoon wasn't he?

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Anyways, detracting from source material made me hate this lovely drama a little bit and makes me question screenwriter's motives too.
8/10 for me, could've been 9/10 or 8.5/10 if they adapted it without modifications.

Toxic. ML destroyed 2ml life just like that.
2ML would have destroyed the FL's life with his 'plans' and controlling nature if left alone to run rampant.

Also I don't think FL actually felt love for 2ML it was more like a need of times. She thought of marriage and she also found a man who she felt comfortable with, had same job and was in a more or less same financial condition. A sort of 'love' developed due to continuous attachment and camaraderie but the spark was missing.

That's what you don't see in FL to ML relationship. It was a relationship that started with serendipity, playfulness and a tinge of attraction. When their relationship furthered, it didn't become an obligation but rather a support system for both of them.

That's the major difference here tbh, one's an obligation while the other's a comfort

Can someone recommend dramas like this?
When you ask for recommendations I assume you're asking because of relationship dynamics shown here, because that's what I felt this drama did best. Here are few,

One Spring Night: The premise matches quite closely, just that ML is in a different situation compared to this.

Summer's Desire: This one I really recommend, but you will have to push through a very annoying first half. Don't worry though, second half will not only redeem the story but will make it miles better altogether. Watch the taiwanese one, the one with Peter Ho.

World of Married: Non similar storyline but recommending this for characterization. Even the ML character who is shown as a trash is so well written and acted that you will dislike him but won't be able to stop watching him.

Those are the ones I remembered from the top of my head, tell me if you need more recs on this or some other theme.
On Before We Get Married May 5, 2024
3 episodes in and I'm absolutely loving this.
The depth in characterization with this accuracy of relationship dynamics and character development is really a rare find.

ML to SFL Relationship: A One-sided caretaking relationship, where the other party doesn't understand the boundaries and invading incessantly into the former's personal space. The first party is obligated to keep the relationship going but that is burdening him both mentally and socially.

FL to SML Relationship: Seems like a relationship born out of need rather than love and then mistaken as love. Both were in same financial situation with same financial problems which made them 'team-up' to create a simple life together. That's not love, that's survival. The obligation to continue the love, the need for sacrifices and the controlled nature of relationship makes it a burden rather than a means for an happy fulfilled life.

Both relationships have one thing in common though, knowingly or unknowingly one party, (SFL in first, SML in second) is trying to control the other. These relationships will either consume the other person completely or will implode on themselves, as is what is happening in the show.

Finally, we have,

ML to FL Relationship: One that starts with a tinge of innocent 'attraction', though one sided in start, but later develops into a liberating experience for both.

^ This is how deep the characterization here is, that this much discussion can be sparked on each and every aspect of relationships shown here.

9/10 easily for now.

Honestly I don't know where else to put this or who to talk to so I thought I'd post it under a drama with extreme…
Psychoanalyzing here, since you asked for it, don't blame me later on :P

I think you might have a crisp sense of distinction between right and wrong, and seeing the wrong ideology perpetuated repulses you. That's a good thing, tbh. A lot of people, knowingly or unknowingly, have become desensitized either due to their surroundings or due to the exposure to trash online. Someone being okay with some abnormal thing doesn't make the abnormal normal. Its like saying if everyone is a murderer then murder is okay.

This could also be a sign of you having either a mid to strong willpower or a again a mid to strong belief system, since it takes one of those to stand by your opinions. These days many are ready to sacrifice their own likes or dislikes just to make their opinions align with the masses. Again, all good nothing bad here too.

Actually, I also have a few things that repulse me quite a lot. Sometimes they destroy my mood for the whole day if watched by chance. I generally have to either write a review (a bad one) or watch/listen to something uplifting just to normalize myself afterwards.

That was long xD....Anyways, that's my take on it. Hope that helps. Good bye!
On The World of the Married May 1, 2024
Absolutely loved this in the start but sadly it lost pace later on. Like many mentioned drama becomes a bit draggy after episode 7,

Still acting and characterizations are both top-notch here so stuck around for that.

Ending was sorta incomplete, tbh.

Overall great watching experience, excellent acting and superb storytelling. Though, a bit boring or disappointing at times, still this was an engaging watch.
8/10 easy.
Could have been 9 if not for annoying and ungrateful son, some unrealistic plot developments later on and the ending.

I'm also stuck at approx 12th episode. Just can't get myself to watch next few episodes, that's how much bored I'm.

The script is full of plotholes. The narrative and storytelling itself is flawed at many points.

I was planning to write a proper review after completing this, just that not feeling like completing it, tbh.....

Seeing you dropping this at 14th episode makes me feel we're quite in the same boat.

My comment wasn't targeted to you btw, it was in reference to whole convo, I simply clicked on last comment to reply lol. MDL doesn't give me the option to two tag a comment :(

On other note, you don't have to defend or even explain why you like or dislike a drama, that's what I meant with my comment. I only got a bit annoyed due to personal insults by other party.

Btw, gender has nothing to with one's preferences, tendencies, likes or dislikes.

Look at ML in this drama only, he cries more than most women...

This developed into something.....ahhh well....🤦‍♀️

Its fine to hate a drama, its an another story altogether to hate some one who loves that drama.

The former is being confident about your own choices, while the latter is just a pitiful attempt at hiding your own lack of confidence in your choice.

@Shubham I don't like QOT too, because I think it contains flawed logic and is filled with plot holes. And given enough discussion time I am confident I can make @Precious not like it too, but that doesn't mean I disregard his/her opinion or capacity to judge a drama on their own.

This whole discussion is just sad tbh...

Let me be clear, this was not a debate. When personal insults are involved any semblance of a debate is thrown out of window. A talk with personal insults is nothing but a sad attempt at gaining a superficial sense of superiority over the other, just to gain a momentary ego boost. If you need to rely on personal insults that only means you're insecure somewhere yourself.

Seriously, trying to lecture no-one here but I am just aghast at the sad state of the things above.
