I Heard drama is not doing so good in China. Iqiyi had to put another show into SSS's timeslot titled "enemy"…
Are iQiyi and WeTV same (or similar parent)? If not, just to clarify, SSS is streamed in WeTV not iQiyi.
Edit: Another possible reason is the schedule shift from 2 eps/day to 1 ep/day freeing up 1 slot for another drama. The schedule came out way back, maybe before or right after the start of the drama. My assumption for this schedule is to hook people with more episodes in the beginning and then switch to 1 ep for longer streaming.
The first 6 days (until December 21st.) two episodes are updated each day. After those 6 days it's one episode…
TBH even I myself haven't read the novel nor do I know how the story will go and end. It's just that I feel like they've barely scratched the surface in these 12 eps so far. I do like the pace though, no complains there.
It would be nice to hear from people who've read the novel to give us a general idea on how much content has been covered so far. That would give us an idea of whether a S2 exists/will exist or not.
I didn't want to start the series because of this doubt but I got hooked after watching ep1 π

What i said was based on the number of total episodes and not the frequency of broadcast. Considering the current pace, I feel that it "might" be too rushed if it ends with ep 38.
With the current pace, it's almost certain there will be another season. If it's the case, hopefully they've done the shooting and release S2 immediately after S1 ends. Aaaaah not another JOL please.
On a different note, Edward Zhang's (Hong Xian) acting and dialogue delivery looks so natural.
She's too bad ass and I will not sacrifice her into a weakling who's always crying about childish romantic stuff.
I too was bothered by her supposed low IQ in terms of romantic gestures. However, later when I thought about it and after reading others' comments, I became convinced that it was because of her lack of trust in the people around her. At home, except her grandma, no one 'really' cared about her which built a barrier in her heart/mindset (lone wolf mentality). Also, with the accepted tradition of taking in concubines, it was not unusual to assume GTY would have his own in the future. Giving your heart brings in vulnerability, and given the happenings around her surrounding, it's not surprising for her to not be willing to surrender her heart.
As for other points you've mentioned, can't disagree with them.
Anyway, sorry for the lengthy and maybe unnecessary/irrelevant post for this sub :D.
He is not Emperor, but King with a different surname and no royal blood, if I understood it.
I do understand the difference between emperor and king but I thought the term 'King' would be changed to 'Lord' after they've been conquered and an emperor rules over them.
I don't know about the whole story but so far (upto Ep8) there's no romance on the surface. However, there's definitely a chemistry/romantic vibe between XFN and JN.
As per the synopsis: "Xu Xiao has risen to become the King of Northern Liang at a time of great upheaval in China. "
I feel that the translation is wrong or maybe it's talking about the future? So far, what i've understood is that Xu Xiao is a Lord and not the King/Emperor.

What satisfying slap that was π
