"once promised" is the story of xiaoyao's biological parents. you don't have to read it in order to understand LYF but you can if you want. though unfortunately i can't find any site where you can read it 😠you could watch "a lifetime love" (2017) chinese drama, which is based off of the "once promised" novel

i absolutely love reading these comments/discussions about LYF, even the ones that argue on how this character is better than that character lmao. just goes to show how there is no such thing as black and white - everyone has their own strengths and weaknesses plus reasons for their actions. it's impossible (at least for me) to hate on any character
zhang jie's ost being used for the ending theme again in ep 39 felt so nostalgic to me 😠flashbacks of the earlier episodes are running in my mind. season 2 pls come soon!!
in ep 29: the new years scene w/ zhang jie's ost in the bg has me crying so badd. seeing the grandfather set another cup in front of him (possibly for his deceased wife) broke my heart, and then ofc xiang liu is all alone again 😠the roller coaster of emotions this drama gives me is crazy
