My take is that they don't have anything of value to offer to the world, nothing good going on in their life, so they're trying to pretend like they're doing something good, by leaving these silly, performative comments about rumours they've read in some gossip magazine at some point. And because they're lazy, they can't be bothered to actually do some research and see what's true and what's not.

While I agree that idol dramas tend to cover lack of good storytelling and acting with beautiful faces, it's quite ridiculous to claim that what is going on in China is not censorship. Just because you happen to agree with the government's opinion, it doesn't mean it's right to stifle other kinds of productions. People should have the right to make dramas with beautiful actors and silly stories. And if there's a market for it, all the more power to them. When the government starts imposing the guidelines for what quality is, you are in trouble, take it from someone who has actually dealt with communism, and these so called "guidelines". And you are incredibly naive if you think that what's going on in this case has anything to do with quality.

Great, then maybe you can do something useful and go campaign against actual proven rapists instead of harrassing innocent people. You're just making it harder for actual victims to be believed when you falsely accuse and defame innocent people.

The physical abuse bothers me as well, but I have to say, the writers toned it down a lot, from the mess that is the novel. The novel is seriously unhinged from that point of view. She punches him and kicks him on the regular, even when he's recovering from injuries, and he literaly bites her, cause he's upset she doesn't like him. So he bites her shoulder hard enough to draw blood and leave a permanent mark. I keep saying it, thos characters in the novel...if they were a real couple today, they would have the cops called on them on the regular.

I feel like the drama actually toned it down a bit with the superpowers. I read part of the novel, and some of the scenes there are just silly. In the novel she literally hunts down a bear, while all the seasoned warriors run away, and get this, she delivers the final blow with a bamboo spear that she made on the spot, while the bear was chasing her. She lifts weights that none of the men around her can lift. And at the same time she keeps getting described as very skinny and tiny. It's basically Buffy the vampire slayer, except Buffy made sense, cause she had supernatural powers.
And in the drama they seem to make her promotions in the army more like part of a political powerplay, in the novel they treat them like she actually earned them. So, at least from my point of view, the screenwriters did the best they could to make her look more realistic without straying from the novel too much.

There are a lot of good elements to the story, but the whole buffy the vampire slayer vibe applied in this scenario is a bit silly. I feel like any person with common sense would have realised that it was improper to walk out in the middle of the reading of the decrees. It's not about not knowing etiquette, she just doesn't abide by any rules of any kind in thelast few episodes.

It's a very specific kind of entitlement to think you can have someone else's work for free, and if you pay for it you're a "corporate shill" to quote one of these lovely people. Personally I would be willing to bet that the majority of these people are either teenagers, or baby adults living in their parents' basement.

How exactly are you supporting the production team and the actors by stealing their work? These dramas cost money to make, and it is the big sites who are willing to pay for the production. If everyone would pirate the content, soon there would be no content made, because no one could afford to make it. What you are doing is shameful, damaging to the series, and not to mention, illegal.

Ok, listen, if I want to rate it based on its cinematography and its beautiful visuals, I'll rate it based on that, again, you are not the end all be all of drama ratings. You are just a person, why are you so obsessed with telling other people how they should do things?
Also, I don't know what the lead actor said about girls, I haven't seen the exact quote, but honestly, if you're going to go that route, movies with hot babes, cars and explosions are there to attract guys. So this is not a gendered issue, please stop trying to make it one. No one is degrading us, can we please act like adults and not find offense in every little thing?

Ok, but this implies that you are the absolute judge of what a drama's true value is. Your opinion is not the end all be all. You have your opinion, and other people have theirs. When you put people's opinions together, you get the collective rating. You might not agree with it but it is what it is. If you want to have a super refined movie critic kind of rating, then there are websites that cater to that, there's no need to get angry simply because other people on this website rate it differently than you.

I think there are some valid points in your first comment. However, the delivery was not optimal, and it came accross quite pretentious, hence the strong reaction. You can point out that you think there is a discrepancy between the rating and the overall quality without insulting a whole group of people.
And implying that the female audience rates it high just because it has good looking actors is a somewhat silly argument in my opinion. Pretty much all k and cdramas have good looking actors, and yes, that's because women enjoy that. However, most of those dramas don't actually have a very high rating. So, there is something else about this drama that attracts viewers. For me, one of its biggest selling points is the cinematography. I work in the art field, so visuals are my thing, I enjoy the beautiful visuals and lighting, and its rare to see that nowadays even in big budget productions.

I don't know, I think it's a matter of taste. I think the drama did it a lot better than the novel. The main couple, the way they act in the novel is quite dysfunctional, in real life they would be the kind of couple that has the police called on them on a regular basis. She gives him several black eyes, constantly punches and kicks him, even when he's recovering fom injuries, and he freakin bites her, he gets upset cause he thinks she doesn't like him and out of frustration bites her hard enough to draw blood and leaves a permanent scar on her shoulder. That is seriously unhinged behaviour. The drama made them a lot more emotionally healthy in my opinion.

It's bugging me too. I keep saying, she's giving off Buffy the vampire slayer vibes. But in Buffy's case, there was an actual explanation for why she was this strong. Here there's none, she's just absurdly strong. Are her bones made of steel? Cause she doesn't even have the weight necessary to put behind some of those punches and kicks. I wish they would have just put in an explanation for it. Make it supernatural or whatever, but actually have a reason for it, then we could get over it and enjoy the fight scenes.

I think they're both to blame. He, for continuing with the lie, so, putting her in a position where she keeps making decisions unaware of the actual state of things, and she for once again disregarding all rules and doing whatever comes through her head without thinking of the consequences.
