I'm glad you guys are enjoying the airplane scene but I just couldn't find it funny 😭 I was more concerned about Se Gye almost dying & Seori not prioritizing his well-being. I'm studying to work in the healthcare field and my first instinct would be to save the patient at all costs, her panicking & not letting the others help gave me so much anxiety oml, especially since he was literally being given CPR when she was brought in, meaning his heart wasn't beating properly or at all. I was mildly uncomfortable and wholly mortified 😭💔 Thank goodness they had the AED kit 🙏

Oh brother... The gap in acting abilities is so so apparent when Cha Eunwoo goes head to head against all these top tier actors. He barely moves his face and keeps the same monotone whereas the rest of the cast is giving it their all. I felt it strongly during ep 3 when he was having that conversation with Bae Nara. His delivery during that scene was so emotionless and mechanical while Bae Nara was there absolutely serving. Cha Eunwoo isn't a bad actor, but he has no strengths. His performance is bland and makes me feel nothing. His pretty face is his only saving grace, really. Just a random thought I had while watching. That aside, the series is pretty interesting so far.

Soul Mate was pushed so much by Netflix for being a queer story so obviously the majority of people tuning in are coming with certain expectations. The show simply failed to deliver what was promised and I think that's a very valid ground for being disappointed. Imagine if a thriller was marketed as romcom, and the audience watches it waiting for the comedy to hit, only to be constantly kept at the edge of their seat instead of something light-hearted. It would've attracted the right audience and spared itself the criticism had it only been advertised correctly as a thriller instead of trying to appease a different niche & failing to deliver and that's exactly what this drama does. Most ppl didn't come here looking for a tragic end to a platonic friendship. They were drawn in by the troubled characters and wanted to know how they'd get together in spite of their adversities and help eo heal. Sharing the love they craved and becoming the pillar for eo, which they did do to some extent but not in the sense it was promised, there weren't many heartwarming scenes that made your stomach swoop or heart skip a beat, if at all. It's like being told there's a warm fireplace waiting for you inside a house down the street when you're walking in the bitter cold, only to find out that it's an electric one that only mimics the colors of the flames but none of it's warmth.
So sure, the director might've showed everything he wanted to, but he failed to direct it towards the right audience.
Fyi, it literally says "Gay romance" in the tags so yes, it is false marketing. This is coming from someone that does not care for kisses to show romantic attraction. The MLs just didn't have enough chemistry together to do that tag any justice, and if they didn't intend to portray a gay relationship, then that shouldn't have been a tag or in the synopsis by the director in the first place.

Well I was being objective about the show and gave it an 8/10 after evaluating it for what it offered, despite what was promised so I'm not sure why you're even targeting me specifically. And obviously, if you market something to a certain audience, they are going in expecting to be delivered what was marketed. It's kind of like opening a pizza place but only serving burgers. The customers that come in are obviously going to be disappointed at the false marketing and even if they choose to stay and try out the food, no matter how good it is, they won't enjoy it fully since they were not in the mood for burgers. It's simple really. And I feel like this show is on the fence, trying to be a BL but also something else while delivering neither. If the MLs' relationship wasn't the driving force behind this whole thing, what was? There's literally no plot other than them getting caught up with eo so excuse us for hoping for a semblance of romance lol.

Netflix set the expectations as it being a BL, they baited us all to watch it. Ofc I know that platonic soulmates exist as well but the main reason so many ppl are disappointed is bc of how the show was promoted! We went in expecting a queer romance, not a tragic sob-fest where one of the MLs has a terminal illness and they never get to be happy.
And no lol, we will not be putting our expectations and disappointments aside when we've literally been waiting for this show for YEARS. Review sites like MDL exist exactly for that reason. We're not here to glaze over the show, we're allowed to give our opinions on the good AND the bad in a show as we like. If you have a different opinion, write your own review, good for you, but you can't be policing other people on how they're allowed to interpret media or what to feel towards a show.
