I can see where you're coming from because I used to think the same way. I questioned every problematic thing…
i very obviously dont think every abusive relationship is grooming either, but fangchi and gaozhuns case definitely was both,
the abuse of authority is how the grooming occurred, fangchi was gaozhuns, so he already occupied a position of trust and power,he exploited that relationship and gaozhuns vulnerability for his own purposes, thats more than just professional misconduct,it's grooming through an existing power imbalance, if you analyze the definition of grooming and it's technique youll see what i mean

grooming id a much more nuanced topic, its a lot broader than just an adult targeting a child, at its core, it's a calculatde process of building trust and creating emotional dependence, then exploiting a power imbalance to facilitate manipulation, while we know that children are the most common victims, it can happen to vulnerable and instabile adults,in gaozhuns case, fangchi was his therapist,hr occupied a position of authority, gained gaozhuns trust through that relationship, and then exploited that trust by using sexual violence to force him to disclose his trauma,it is an abuse of a professional relationship and an exploitation of the vulnerability of the patient, also my point was never that people can't consume dark fiction, its rather mr pointing out that reducing dynamics like this to romance instead of acknowledging the abuse is exactly the kind of romanticization I was criticizing

I find it really strange how many people romanticize or glorify narratives in which sexual assault or rape is presented as a component of the relationship between the male leads, consuming dark fiction is one thing, but acting like zhenxin and zhuns dynamic is romantic or desirable is A WHOLE NOTHER,this kind of reaction genuinely makes me question peoples ability to critically engage with the media they consume, the same applies to fangchi and gaozhuns relationship, their dynamic clearly shows manipulation and exploitation directed toward gaozhun, its a very obvious grooming dynamic , again i'm not saying people should avoid consuming fiction that contains disturbing or uncomfortable themes, fiction can and should explore difficult subjects, however, I do think it's important not to shut down conversations about how these relationships are portrayed and why audiences respond to them the way they do simply because "it's fiction"ive noticed this behavior particularly a lot some thai/chinese bl fandoms, where abusive or coercive dynamics are framed as romantic, and many fans reduce those relationships to an idealized love story rather than engaging with the harmful aspects of what's actually being depicted

some of these comments truly are close minded and ignorant, the audacity that some of you have to be getting mad at a victim who was taken advantage of in a vulnerable state? 18 and 23 is pretty iffy in general, and definitely in this either, the imbalance was very CLEARLY showcased in the show i have no idea how you guys get the nerve to defend kanda, on another hand i do like the complexity it gives to akira as a CHARACTER, it's very important to showcase how vulnerability can affect and shape your decisions in life, and obviously we do understand that there is a reason why kanda is the way he is ,and what he led him down that path, but in no way does it excuse his actions, i was glad he was letting akira go, but even then he tried to sabotage akira as he was trying to open up and change, this is the negative impact that heteronormative and homophobic environments leave on others and cause, not having freedom to appropriately love can lead to predatory behaviors, not inherently but definitely still can.
