I think you and Ugly Duckling are both correct. Tears, Grief, Anger and Happiness all result in large mood swings and bring out different reactions by different people. I mainly cry when I am tired, a lot of the time there is no deep emotion tied to the tears, but just a release of stress. My other occasion for tears is sadness. When I can do nothing to change or help a situation and I feel helpless I will cry. My middle daughter can only cry when she is angry. My youngest daughter cries in all occasions. We all cry at sad movies. The only time I will watch a sad movie and TV show is if I know I need to release stress, but need a catalyst. Then it's Katie bar the door a flood is coming.
For me forgiveness is not for the abuser, it is so I can let go of the anger or hurt that I am carrying because of another's actions. Forgiving the other party leads me to acceptance of a situation that I cannot change and for me with acceptance comes peace. We are all different both emotionally and culturally so we will have different reactions to hard situations, but we all need to find our way to making peace with our emotions, so that we can be happy in the now. Now is all we are guaranteed, so we need to be at ease with the now. Does this make any sense?
I enjoyed your article, but a happy ending is a must for me, so I probably won't watch this show.
However, you are quite right in your interpretation of time. I noticed when my kids were young, I would think and say...if we just get through this time everything will be better...and we would get through that time and here comes another crisis. I realized that I was wishing my life away. I found that you can find happiness in every situation, even if it is only a small period of time. There is always something to be thankful for....
But the real kicker to the issue of just getting through time, is that you miss opportunities of happiness. Lets face it things might never get better so you need to appreciated every moment of your life, even the sad and angry ones.
If you are other than yourself, sooner or later, everything will fall apart. It is ALWAYS best to be true to yourself and your feelings. If another can't or won't accept your feelings then you have nothing to regret because your expressed your feelings, yourself honestly. My biggest gripe regarding dramas is when no one is brave enough to tell the person they care about what they are feeling. This leads to nothing but misunderstandings and hurt feelings. So, they lesson, young lovers to take from dramas is that it is best to share your feelings than waste all your time and emotions in limbo time. If they accept your feelings then great! If the person doesn't accept or return your feelings the sooner you know it and accept the situation the sooner you can move on and find the right person for you.
I didn't watch the original. I was born in 1956 so, unfortunately I have a vivid memory of the fashion trends of the 70s and 80s and you are quite right, they have them down pat. Maybe a little more orange would be in order. It is still a difficult time for women in Korea, but this show gives us a snapshot of how much better things have become.
I am enjoying this show as the acting is great but it does keep one confused.
So, if I am already a Viki subscriber I don't get anything extra for signing up for this? It sounds like they might get subs out faster than Viki. Does anyone know?
I just finished watching this complete drama. It will go down as a favorite. Mainly because of quality of acting and the script. Go Ara acting left something to be desired as she was always over the top, but just couldn't carry the role. But despite Go Ara I gave this drama a 10 rating.
Sung Dong II is one of my favorite older actors, he portrays the gruff exterior, marshmallow center with a core of integrity throughout the show. I felt he was a hero and should not have bowed down.
L was unbelievable. A previous reviewer Chalbarczk, described his character perfectly so I am just going to quote Chalbarczk."He plays the character who is straightforward, confident, and in control of the feelings, but at the same time seeking the truth about himself, about his true motivations. Young judges have a great chemistry, I can even say that drama is full of electrifying romance, although they barely talking to each other and keep the distance between themselves almost all the time"
Ryu Deok Hwan as L's friend was the touching comedic character in this show. He did a wonderful job and in some scenes almost stole the show. The market scene with the older ladies hitting on him was classic.
I am pretty sure this was pre-recorded and was probably filmed during the winter. I watched another Chinese drama…
My middle daughter has lived for the past 2 years in S Korea teaching English. She says that she has never been so cold in her life. Growing up and living in Texas did not prepare her for the cold wet weather. In the homes the floors are heated, but it is not central heat or air like we are used to in the USA. She says that she can take her coat off in her classroom, but not the common areas. At first her bed in her apt was off the floor, but she soon moved it to the floor as it was warmer. She thought she wouldn't like sitting on the floor, but she said you do it without thinking as it is warmer there in the winter and cooler there in the summer. She has never owned more than 2 coats at a time in her life and now she has 7. The ones she brought from home are no where near warm enough for winter in Korea. On the plus side, the coats available are very fashionable and for the most part reasonably priced. She is coming home next week and the two things she said she has missed the most is the food and central air and heat. LOL

I also noticed in Boss and Me, even in the office, everyone was cold..so I concluded they must not run the heat that high, probably because of electricity cost or brown outs. Burrr
