During Ming Dynasty, concubines who didn’t bear any children were killed when the Emperor dies. Xuande Emperor Zhu Zhanji’s 10 concubines died when he died . He was in his thirties so imagine those concubines must have been young as well. However, the practice of killing concubines to be buried alongside the deceased emperor was abolished during the reign of his son, Emperor Ying Zong of Ming (1427 A.D. - 1464 A.D.).

@apocalib Thanks. The original concubine did not become empress only YZJ. It’s falling into place now. She was the first choice for concubine but somehow the other lady was chosen. I hope we’ll see more scenes of the leads after they marry.
