Not really. In the first half she was engaged but it got broken up and there was basically no romantic interaction between them. So, no need to worry about love triangle.
Should I really skip it? Does this really not have a iota of redeeming quality?
Well, I like the premise and most of all, I don't have anything else to watch. I'll just skip ep 7 to 9 then and go from there. From the comments, it seems like 7 to 9 is the main problem.
Just finished it - really lovely story well acted. Never understand why so many j-dramas are rated so low! Is…
I grew up on manga and anime, and after watching countless dramas, I’ve realized that Japanese directors and scriptwriters often don’t adapt the manga or anime storylines for live-action in a way that works. By idol dramas, I don’t mean ones about actual J-idols, but rather shows with fluffy, mostly substance-free stories. In manga adaptations, they tend to keep the exaggerated actions and reactions that work fine in manga or anime but feel cringy or like bad acting in live-action. There are so many series like this that people lose hope for something better. That’s why J-dramas have relatively few international viewers. Good series like "First Love" are rare, and often the best ones are melodramas. Episode count, in my opinion, is another limitation for Asian dramas. Writers often stretch or compress the storyline to fit a preset format, which ruins immersion. I prefer a story that takes as many episodes as it needs to wrap up—where the story decides the episode count, not the other way around.

I think it's mostly because often times J dramas have some unhinged story line and most of the good ones have sad ending. Acting style is a issue in idol dramas. For the melodrama type series or something like "First Love" the acting is really good. But I really wish they would cut down the over the top acting in idol dramas or even Rom-Com for that matter.
This is my most rewatched drama, one I revisit at least twice a year. It holds a special place in my heart, along…
I also have a few other dramas that I always rewatch. 1. When the weather is fine (3rd most rewatched drama after the above two) 2. Something in the rain (but I skip the angsty part cause I fckng hate the mother with a passion.) 3. Do You Like Brahms? 4. Silent 5. On a Starry Night (I discovered it through the OST first "Hoshi Furu Yoru Ni") 6. First Love (Japanese one) (My most rewatched Japanese Series) 7. Romance is a bonus book 8. Soundtrack #1 (Something about this is magical just skip #2) 9. Why Her? 10. The First Frost (Recent favorite) 11. Melancholia 12. Meet Yourself (My comfort drama) 13. Go Ahead (Favorite family drama) 14. Fireworks of my heart 15. Forever and ever (Another comfort drama) 16. Our Beloved Summer
This is my most rewatched drama, one I revisit at least twice a year. It holds a special place in my heart, along with another favorite, "One Spring Night." These two are truly my all-time favorites. Nowadays, they just don't make dramas like this anymore, and none of the recent releases evoke the same emotions. I know I'll be watching it again soon.
It was good. I didn't feel the need to skip or fast forward any part, that means it's better than Jisoo's all the previous dramas except for Snowdrop, but the acting here really improved a lot. Also, people going on about horrible acting, are you guys really for real? Criticizing anything just for the sake of criticizing is really lame. It's not that she will get award or something for acting but it's far from horrible acting and actually enjoyable.
😭I said this before, they ate me up in the comments
Haha. It happens. Sometimes our opinion differs from majority. I just stop replying when somebody becomes a little too argumentative to keep my peace of mind. Otherwise, everything else is in good sports.
The story of Fang Mujing with her family was great. I just only didn't place much importance on her romance storyline. That's the only part that felt out of touch to me. But it's not like it made my viewing experience bad.
Why is the rating so low in this one? I really liked it. It gave me the movie "Drawing Closer" vibes. The last twist was a really welcome one. Even if they didn't do that, it still would've been a very good series.
